The ironic thing is Mehrunes Razors dungeon is probably one of the few dungeons in Oblivion that adheres to this old idea of a lived in environment. The Drothmeri living quarters, slave tunnels and armoury is great; it’s like a mini city of Bravil placed under the earth. The later half with the vampires and Aylied ruins is where it returns back to typical post Morrowind TES dungeon design.

Not sure how I missed that, but thanks for letting me know. If you had any other issues with the video just leave some timestamps and I'll make note for next time. Thanks again
I'm a new player to oblivion after playing skyrim for several years, and I didn't know that when I downloaded the game from a random website, that it had all the dlcs. So, the minute after I finished the tutorial I got TONS of quests out of nowhere. I decided to try them out since I was too afraid to go into the oblivion gate for the main quest, and I was very disappointed since all of the quests I had completed basically led to me having to pay for several upgrades in the end. I enjoyed the castle but I was only level 2 and had no money to pay for the furnishings. I'd rather sleep in a cozy little hotel room than sleep in a giant empty castle with soulless guards and cobwebs everywhere. Glad to know that these are only small add ons and not in the vanilla game's questline.
Was I the only one that liked horse armor? I love how my chestnut looks in steel armor and from a lore perspective it made sense that I would want to protect my horse from everything trying to kill us. I never understood the hate for it. I mean yes its a blatant micro transaction but I got the game on sale for like 10 bucks with all the dlc included so I never cared.
That's probably where a lot of the hate comes from tbh. People were expected at the time to pay real world money for an add-on that most players will never bother with. I have all the add-ons and I didn't even realize horse armor was a thing, so I'd be pretty miffed if I spent money for it to be the most "just there" content in the game.
It's interesting to look at people discussing if these DLC are worth buying, as someone who bought the base game bundled with all of the DLC for all of 5 bucks when it went on sale on Steam.
The mage's tower was the most fun because if you quit the game while inside and then deleted the DLC you could access the dev area and get all their fun weapons.
"They did it better in Morrowind and that's the last time I'll ever say that" Choose your next words carefully. Do you have anything against Morrowind?
ran into this channel on my recommended section, i really enjoyed the video, cant believe you only have 12k subs, you deserve many many more, keep up the great work!
If you roleplay just pick the house that fits best nobody forces you to use them all and develop some mental gymnastics in justifying it into you characters backstory. I loved the vampire lair, also made my character a vampire usually so it fit very well. Also I found that you sometimes have to piece together tidbits of lore by yourself. For example your distant vampire relatives writes of a vampire coup within the black brotherhood which was betrayed by one of their own. The only vampire in the brotherhood that you meet is therefore the traitor. A great bit of lore! So instead of shitting on dlcs having too many enemies, not fitting YOUR character, or giving you too much to walk, maybe just play your preferred play style and let other people enjoy the world building

Great video, but I don't think there is new dialogues in Fighter's Stronghold, they're reused imo. However, dialogues from Bothiel in Orrery are new, because I'm pretty sure it was cut from the original game (maybe they didn't have the time to produce the main asset but they had already written the dialogues, so they could recorded them with the rest of the game. It's very frustrating to not have any new dialogues in the Oblivion DLCs, and Bethesda still uses the same "written notes" technique for Skyrim's Creation Club mods. I get it's complicated to record every time, moreover if you want to dub in all languages, but it's really visible for the players.

Shivering isles is the best dlc in elder scrolls.
@@griffithdidnothingwrong8119 absolutely agree with you there.
atleast none of the dlcs were companion npcs
The ironic thing is Mehrunes Razors dungeon is probably one of the few dungeons in Oblivion that adheres to this old idea of a lived in environment. The Drothmeri living quarters, slave tunnels and armoury is great; it’s like a mini city of Bravil placed under the earth. The later half with the vampires and Aylied ruins is where it returns back to typical post Morrowind TES dungeon design.
Comment is three years old but ??? Skyrim objectively did this far more than morrowind and I love morrowind. Oblivion was the odd one out forgetting this tbqh
That ending elicited an audible chuckle from me. I'm in terrible pain due to what is likely stomach cancer so good job. It wasn't pleasant but you made me do it anyway. Well, I mean you did just play the DLC as intended....but you did kill the horse with expert comedic timing. I'm gonna go take a pain pill and lie down. I haven't eaten in two days since I just puke everything up so that chuckle has me all tuckered out.
Hope you're feeling a bit better soon
biancocup well quit making me laugh asshole and I might lol
I find out for sure if I'm dying in a couple of days and at least i'll know what's happening. The wait has been the worst part so far. Every time I get a pain in my gut I worry that it's the mass in my abdomen slowly growing, intent on constricting my intestines, building up pressure until I have to shit in a bag just to live.
Then I rip a massive fart and feel stupid.

I remember appreciating the player home dlcs in my original 360 run, mainly because the orc that sells the best vanilla house in skingrad yeeted himself off the castle bridge. Now I avoid them till mid game or later, maybe stick some neat items around different homes in the end game.
"the orc that sells the best vanilla house in skingrad yeeted himself off the castle bridge" mega LOL

0:05 wrong its the 4th installment of the Elder Scrolls franchise 1 being arena, 2 being daggerfall, 3 being morrowind, 4 being oblivion, 5 being skyrim
Horse Armor DLC wouldn't fly today because now people are willing to buy it for 10 bucks or more.
"i ran across a ghost once. seemed to suck the energy right out of me."

No horses were harmed during the making of this vid
Well video game horses aren't real, so there's no concern for that...
@@user-og6hl6lv7p It was sarcasm as virtually every scene shown shows a digital horse getting killed.
Vile lair... The most mod'esque of the bunch in my opinion. Can't forget the pool that magically cures your vampirism.
And the assistant that killed and robed people. Can't remember the details
10000 subs? How is that even possible? This is great content.
Wait, people didn't just... pirate them?
I know I fucking did. Wouldn't pay money for that lol
I did. it is well past the statutes of limitation now.

Nah, I’ll still pirate singleplayer shit I can pirate.
burning captain dugals journal was fucking hilarious
You know that "ex " part really made me sad, surprisingly
this is honestly just the precursor to the creation club. it’s just a bunch of mini dlc that’s not worth the money
I remember that most of the dlcs just ended up as mods to download within like a week of them coming out lol
I love how his horse keep dying in every single scene
It's interesting to look at people discussing if these DLC are worth buying, as someone who bought the base game bundled with all of the DLC for all of 5 bucks when it went on sale on Steam.
The mage's tower was the most fun because if you quit the game while inside and then deleted the DLC you could access the dev area and get all their fun weapons.
Yeah on pc this wasn’t necessary but on xbox 360 oh boy 😂

ran into this channel on my recommended section, i really enjoyed the video, cant believe you only have 12k subs, you deserve many many more, keep up the great work!
To be honest, the parchment effect IS really cool.
The memes born from Shivering Isles will always be great.

Ikr, but horse armor was sadly the grandfather of all those kind of bs skin dlcs.
Yeh bro you’re missing a lot of context here. Horse armor came out at a time where people found that genuinely insulting. It wasnt normalized to hell by the industry like it is now
the horse armor is worse because it was what started the trend of stupid dlcs like useless skins.

This was a really good video. I look forward to watching your channel grow.
Unmodded Oblivion never ran out of things for me, for years
Orrey i suspect was made mostly for the morrowind fans , as similar orrey was shown but non functioning in dwemer ruins , so it fits the lore building that archeologists of the mages guild would move one from all the ruins to the tower
I like the style of your presentation - the way you strife back and forth from the main subject. Reminds me of myself and a more realistic train of thought.
Played Oblivion without mods for a good 5 years lmao.
Wish I could say the same for Skyrim
@Glockjaw I added a few mods to it later on but it always worked fine for me.

9:05 im at my breaking point
As someone who had to restart my game from the beginning cause I was foolish enough to not install unofficial patches on my new PC, Frostcragg Spire is a much better alternative to doing every mages guild quest a second time
this is the first time I ever hear that all of that stuff were dlcs, I remember playing oblivion as a kid and just assuming it was base content xD
also really good video dude
1:43 "Shivering Isles is good, but..."
The audacity of this man...
18:20 wow that is some real "breaking the 4h wall" stuff
