It’s kind of crazy how much of my favorite songs are in 6/8. I think I really like the back-and-forth pulses in the time signature. I’m also a big folk music fan, where it’s really common.
Fade Into You by Mazzy Star is SUCH a tune. Before watching this video I would've never paid attention to its BPM and 6/8 time. Thank you for the video, I've been following since the start.
6/8 song examples for counting like a nerd: "The year's love" by David Gray "Everybody Hurts" by R.E.M. "Fade into you" by Mazzy Star "Nothing else matters" by Metallica "Manic depression" by Jimi Hendrix "A kiss from a rose" by Seal Now count!
I've been trying to record with my father-in-law. He uses pro tools. He always wants me to play to a click track. Would you change a click track to different time signatures. For example I feel like some of the stuff I'm writing is in 3/4 but his clicktrak sounds like a standard 4/4 metronome which throws me off some time. Do I need to change the way I'm hearing the click track or does he need to change the click track to a different timing if that's even possible?? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm not a professional musician.
I literally screamed when you mentioned This Year´s Love! LOL. It is practically unknown in my country but it is so meaningful to me: what a great example. I own a baby Taylor and I just bought a Squier Starcaster. Even though Im not totally a beginner, I am watching all your lessons from the very first one. Thank you so much for all the great value you bring, Justin! Stay safe :)
I’m finding this hard to see the disconnection between 123.123 the waltz timing and 6/8 timing 123.456 seems to I have just changed the numbers, like just replaced the last 3 numbers .....123,123 .....123,456. 😀 🤨

Hey Justin, 6/8? if I count 6 beats where does the 8 come into it? Great lessons, easy to follow, should have learnt this stuff years ago, I know you have the answer.
The 8 denotes the type of note. They are eighths. There are six eighth notes in every bar. Cheers 😊 | close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide [ www.justinguitar.com/ ] & Moderator on JustinGuitar Forum
I agree. I am a little confused. My understanding was the 8 implied they were eighth notes. Meaning you would count 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and. Where as quarter notes are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

The top number in a time signature tells us how many beats are in each bar, and the bottom number tells us what rhythmic unit they are. So, in 6/8 time, there are 6 beats, and each beat has the value of an eighth note (or quaver). I hope this helps.
I don't know you or what you've been through, but you matter. God loves you and so do I. Believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead. Repent of your sins; repent simply means to turn away from your sins, don't keep doing the wrong things you did in the past. Be baptized; a symbol that the old sinful self is gone and a new creation is here in Christ Jesus. Follow the specific will of God for your life and you will be saved.

Great video! I believe Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" is also in the 6/8 time signature! Totally explains that ballad like feeling.

That video with the paper was helpful because I can now hear the difference
"Hear You Me" by Jimmy Eat World is 6:8
Rescue by Lauren Daigle is 6:8 as well. I'm currently learning that one :), pretty simple too.

@@jacobheddy6888 An eighth note is half of a quarter note. So 6/8 time is 1 and 2 and 3 and.

Fade into you was the first one that came to my mind for 6/8. I must be getting better at recognising time sigs
Thanks for your efforts

I've always been confused by time signatures - what does the 8 mean?

@@karlfarren ahhh, thank you! I think I've had it upside down all this time!
You know its gonna be an informative video when the frontman is old and english
His accent doesn’t say British though, he’s actually Australian.
What a strange comment!
Why is there an "8" in 6:8? Anyone?
There are six eighth notes per bar.
Cheers 😊
