It is definitely both! Why I love digging through boxes of rusty old stuff to find this!

@@MattsGarage1791 I found a scribe similar to the one you just did , but the screw holding the 2 pieces together is wood , pretty cool

@@brooktrout1477there's literally enough varieties of old wooden scribes out there to fill an entire wall in my garage!

Thank you! Hate to see functional works of art like this tossed aside to rust!

Hi Matt! We are always impressed with your restorations, but not surprised on how well they turn out! Everytime the tools are beautiful and function well. Great craft our friend. Looking forward to what's next!

Hi Nice video. What brand and type of black enamel spray can did you use. I am picking up a second hand Stanley 78 on Thursday this week and will need to work on the paint job. Thanks.

I really want to learn how to do my own Japanning technique, it doesn't seem that complicated, just time consuming with all of the heating cycles. I like to use a spray paint product from MagicPaints - Diamond Hard - Spray Enamel - Levels Like Glass: www.majicpaints.com/specialty/diamondhard/

Sorry I like the one that has double arms to the fence I find it better

      It is stable.

@@MattsGarage1791 Yes. Two arms do give that extra stability. I have the RECORD combi-plane (Record was the English competitor, I think, to Stanley in America??) and it looks almost identical to this 78. Record called theirs No. 778. The 778 has two arms for the fence, and is more stable. I have the Stanley No. 50 combi-plane (30s-50s), also, and it has two arms (as you will probably know).
Yes - what a brilliant restoration! Tool-making of this quality may never come this way again, I'm glad that guys like you are helping to keep it alive!

@232Geno I've gained lot of respect for woodworkers who rely on vintage hand tools such as these to make beautiful heirloom furniture and other pieces. I'm in no way even a novice woodworker but I'm grateful to be able save some of these tools and the history of handmade woodwork. thanks again, I really appreciate it!
