Both Siemens Duewag U2 AC cars were both retired as of Summer of 2016. 2101 is used as a track tester train while 2102 has been used for spare parts for 2101. Eventually, 2102 has been scrapped.
+thebuffalodude Ahhh, I'm glad I caught it. And you answered a question I had in another reply, and that was if the 2400's were due to arrive soon. I am trying to hold off on a return trip until most of the S200's are on the property.
There have been some cases where the DC U2s have operated with the SD 160s. These are extremely rare and are rarely ever used. Calgary Transit got around to running them, but it ended up inefficient. There are plans in the future to upgrade the 2200s SD 160s to be compatible with the newer 2300s.
A friend of mine there later caught video of a trainset of 2200's with a DC U2 sandwiched between. I think I posted that video somewhere on here as well.
2207 will be the 1st SD160 to be mechanically upgraded. It will be sent back to Sacramento as soon as car 2402 gets unloaded by the end of this month (Jan2016) Once it's upgraded (6 minths or so) it will no longer be able to run with any other car until they get upgraded too....this includes the Series 8 Cars (2301-2338) Eventually all SD160s will run together. The S200s will be the only cars that will run alone.
Edmonton Transit originally purchased 2101-2102 in 1988 as a demostrator set 3001-3002 and then sold them to Calgary ETS also rebuilt all their U2's and will run them until 2030
Actually The Province Of Alberta bought them, Calgary ended up buying them from the Province for next to nothing as Calgary needed the cars. They spent lots of money retro fitting the cars to run in Calgary.

Nice video. 2101 has been retired from revenue service and is in the process of being converted to a Catenary inspection vehicle.

Belive it or not...Edmonton Transit will begin to phase out there U2s within 5 years.

Pretty much, yep. They are in the twilight of their lives....
Because the U2s are old and need more work then just a new paint job....28 of them will be retired this year so it's not worth it..
The only one that’s repainted is the inspector train
