MIP Techniques - The Squat Lift

  • Lifting from close to ground level is a task often performed in healthcare or any other industry for that matter. Lifting something up from ground level can be difficult but also puts the person doing the lifting at risk for back, shoulder and neck injuries. For this reason, a squat lift can be used. Not done properly though, a poor squat lift is just as risky as using no technique at all.
    Some points to consider are trying to keep your elbows as close to your sides as possible during the lifting movement, keeping your head in line with your back and shoulders and spreading your feet apart slightly to accommodate the load you are lifting.
    Please take a few minutes to review this video, if necessary, more than once. In the video we provide you with a good demonstration of how to properly execute a squat lift, use some accommodation techniques, and minimize the risk of injury.

    Can you make a safety video on how to do a lateral transfer of a patient from bed to a gurney ? That be very helpful thanks.
