Please quote me if you need "This is the most useful and comprehensive tutorial I have had on a player. Phil is engaging, concise and credible. The level of detail enables you to directly work with the unit from the start. This has saved me countless hours research and trial"
Very kind of you OM Selection, glad it helped :)
Thanks Phil, this is by far the most comprehensive walk-through of this piece of gear, it surely will help a lot of people decide if this player is right for them. The logical structure of the video and the table of contents with timestamps... honestly your attention to detail is second-to-none.
Glad this was useful to you Scoox!
Dear Phil, I didn’t know I needed this video.. until I watched it. Thank you much. I bought my Denon Prime 4 back in February 2020, but I learned so much from your tutorial.
Glad to hear that :) Thanks for watching
Hi! I am in the market for a Prime 4.....cab I ask how has ownership been since the purchase?
I just received my prime 4 yesterday. This really is an amazing piece of kit. I used to DJ on vinyl and cd's over 20 years ago even played at a club, but stopped because i got married and had 3 kids. Seeing what this unit can do is incredible. I almost feel like it makes it too easy. No more scrambling for a record, spinning to the cue and beat matching with no time to spare. Now I got too much time between tracks because all the heavy lifting work takes seconds. Thanks for the tutorial
You're welcome, and "welcome to digital"!
I am so happy I stumbled upon this channel. I subscribed and honestly bought the damn course. As a youtube provider, it takes A LOT of effort and hel has gone above and beyond with free value and showing he knows what he is talking about. Such a genuine person. Thank you!
Thanks for your support Humza!
Thank you Phil. I'm a mobile DJ and you made it all clear for my next standalone purchase. Very well demonstrated! 5 ***** Tutorial ... Keep up the good work!
Glad it was helpful Robert.
Thanks Phil, bought my Prime 4 a few days ago upgrading from a Pioneer. Although the Engine software and firmware have upgraded recently, this video is still very relevant for the general overview and operation. Learnt quite a lot from this and always enjoy your videos.
Thanks! It's 95% the same :)
the best and most detailed description of denon 4 on UA-cam❤
warm greetings from Poland😊
Wow, thank you!
Thanks Phil.
I just had this unit delivered on Tuesday, and Just it for only the second official time and it’s awesome.
I learned right off the bat from this video that I could record my mixes. That’s awesome. I’m sure there’s much more to learn.
I haven’t DJ’d anywhere in almost 20 years, so doing it digitally is really cool
Thank you 🙏
Glad we could help! Have fun :)
Awesome tutorial, thank you so much. I've just purchased a Prime 4 + and this is still very much relevent. Thank you!
Oh yes, 97% relevant :)
Great Video Phil. I'm a Mega Fan of Denon DJ Products 👊🏻🔥
Wow you watched that quickly Bryan! 😉
me 2 🙂
@@djsonofibiza nice 👍🏻
@@digitaldjtips hehe yes Phil 👊🏻👍🏻
Now this has been a really useful video as I haven't bought the controller yet but you have convinced me to buy it. It's been on my shortlist and it's now #1
Glad to help!
Thank you!! I'm playing an event tonight and I have never played on this controller. I feel more confident now walking in as I was not going to have any time to play around with it before my set.
You got this!
Phil if they dont find a cure for covid you deserve the Nobel Peace Prize I learned alot Great Vid as always
LOL glad you enjoyed this
Watching now & looking forward for this. Had lots of time practicing since I bought mine in January & now uploading to Mixcloud & just started livestreaming. Always nice to see Denon Prime 4 vids 👍
I hope you learn some things you didn't know about your unit, Mike!
@@digitaldjtips So far, I have discovered the moving of the loop by pressing shift & your great tips on the fx - esp the flanger sounding much better on 8 beats & how to improve the echo by turning to higher frequencies. Half way through & discovered new things! Cheers Phil 🍻🍻😎😎👍👍
Awesome, glad to hear that 😊
@@digitaldjtips I had a Pioneer XDJ-RX which was great but recently changed to Prime 4. Like most DJ's in 2020 I started live streaming sets and followed one of your other instruction videos and purchased TRS to TRRS adaptor which worked perfectly - but it doesn't on the Prime 4 - I get ambient room sound. On the Prime 4 Owners page on FB it was recommended I get an irig and rca to 1/4 inch jack cable. I tried this attached to the Unbalanced RCA Outputs on the Prime but get low volume - have to turn up master really loud which isn't ideal - so moved my speakers over to booth. But still, the stream sound is average in quality. Any suggestions?!
What a great tutorial! Was well impressed. both with the unit itself, and the presentation. I can't believe how many features are included within it. F´Really future stuff!
Thanks Orgon :)
The best DJ SYSTEM STANDALONE
Thanks for watching 👌
I'm only going starting off but the way you explains things makes it a lot easier on me to play .
Glad to help!
DenonDj should pay you for this. This is exactly what I needed!
Nice one!
Thank you so much I’ve learn so much throughout this video stuff I really didn’t know now I got the hang of it
Happy to help!
Phil, you made my day! Still givin standing ovatins on what you'r broadcasted. Keep up this good work, skillz an feelinz. i am oon that tune now.
Glad to help!
Thanks for this RAD manual! The one thing I wish for on the Denon Prime 4 is a pad/LED brightness setting - the lights on the machine - other than the screen (which could be dimmer) are way too bright.
Nice idea
Right on. I been spinning vinyl since 1988. I got sl3 when it came out as I prefer vinyl feel. My kids want to learn to dj but the vinyl intimidates them. So I did some research and decided to get this controller. It intimidated me. Lol I had a lot of questions. This video helped me figure out a lot of my questions and now I’m looking forward to going and playing with it and hopefully more effectively teach my kids.
Great to hear!
Thanks for this im playing my first live set on this setup and ive never played on it before, now im excited and not nervous to play :) i appreciate you.
Best of luck! Let us know how it goes
I love your Tutorials , coming from the 90's generation on vinyl, then having kids cramping my style through th CDJ days, I really was petrified of moving to a controller, I've watched the RX XZ and Prime and borrowed a couple, now and thanks to these most compprehensive videos, I am confident enough to get back in the game 🤣. Take a bow Phil 👊 trouble is choosing which religion to buy into 😬
Glad to help!
Amazing timing. I literally bought one on the 20th October when the video uploaded. Fantastic review, really excellent.
Nice! Glad to help :)
The best video on UA-cam !!! You the Man !👏👏👏 thank you so much just ordered mine!🤫
Thanks a lot!
thanks! playing a 2 hour set on this controller in a few days! think im ready now =)
Hope you enjoy it!
Great timing, literally love your reviews an i am in the market for the prime 4.. couldn't have timed this upload any better. thanks mate
It's great when it works out like that 😄Hope it helps!
I had mine for a year or so, but this was a great walkthrough. I learned a lot. Thank you very much! You should do a q&a on it sometimes :)
Thanks for the idea!
I just started learning to DJ and while I love my N.I. Traktor S2 Mk 3, I want this!
Both are cool pieces of gear
Thank you for your tutorial video. I was amazed by the DJ that operate the dj controller. A few years back I was trying to learn how to use the dj controller just for fun at home but don’t really know anything about it. I was searching on UA-cam but can’t find any tutorials that helped me until your tutorial. Now I understand a lot of it from your video. Now seems light 💡 just turns on in my head. Like and subscribe.
Glad I could help!
thank you so much for creating this video! It answered all my questions about the Prime 4 and I just ordered one!
Awesome, glad to help!
Thank you Guy for this video very useful ! Great job !
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the great video. I took a 15-year hiatus from DJing, bought one of these things a few weeks ago, and I'm just blown away by what I can do. I learned a ton of little bits from this video that I wasn't able to pick up in the manual, so many thanks!
One thing you didn't cover that I'm curious about is how or whether I can save hot cues and similar for tracks from streaming services?
Awesome, glad to help - yes you can save hot cues (and other things like loops) for streaming tracks
man o man these are feature packed! thanks for the VERY in depth demo. Very complete!
No problem! :)
best tutorial around about the prime 4 thank u
you're welcome, Mark!
Thank you for this excellent video!
You're very welcome!
Thanks again yall.. Another win win.. Loving this new gear ⚙
No problem!
EXCELLENT VIDEO! VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE!
Thanks!
I was gifted this beautiful piece of work today and I was confused on how to function it
Hope we helped.
Brilliant tutorial Phil I've learnt so much from this🙂I love the Denon Prime 4...Dad brought the Ltd white one which is super cool...the Prime Go is brilliant too and a lot of things are the same...DJ L.I.AM
Hi Liam, glad this helped you and hope you are well
The standalone controllers and Cdjs buffer the tracks into their internal RAM to play smoothly, it does not directly play through the USB. So whenever you load a track, it immediately grabs it from the USB into its internal RAM and then does not need the USB. Thats also how DJ software functiion on the computer. What would truly be amazing is when you can access yr library and load ANOtHER track without USB plugged in.
You guys should do an update video covering all the changes in the last couple updates. I think 1.5 and 1.6 came out after this or am I wrong ? Thanks
Thanks for the suggestion :)
Boy look at how far it’s come now ! Now the current state of the Fx and updates is night and day from back when it was new. I sold mine back then it just wasn’t for me. Now I have the plus …
This may be the professional controller for me 🏅
Cool :)
Absolutely awesome advice.
Nice 1
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for this overview
You’re welcome
Still relevant, still awesome. Especially the in-depth setting like Momentary vs Trigger Hot Cues, etc. super helpful, Phil!
You’re welcome
great video ! thanks
You are welcome!
Thank you for that great video !
You're welcome!
Excellent, really informative 👏 👍
Thanks!
Great intro here!
Glad it helped
Had the unit for about a week coming off a DDJ SX2. I love it but the effects are not good at all. There are some bugs that have been around since 2019 that still are not fixed. If your coming from pioneer it’s going to take a long time to get used to them and your probably find you don’t use them much.
It's certainly going to feel different :)
Great Video. During the looping discussion. Billy Jean MJ has an 8 count in. I usually will loop 5,6,7,8 for a four count loop. Makes it easy for getting in to any song. With an exit of something very recognizable. But later in the song I want to RE-loop that same 4 which should be only exited and still callable. How do you bounce back into the Loop again? Because pressing the loop in/out again just starts me another loop.
Can't recall from memory, but isn't there a Reloop function on one of the buttons?
@@digitaldjtips Unless its a function in one of the pad keys. It has to be there. I learned that trick on a Denon 2500s 30 years ago. They couldn't have got rid of it. Its just hidden somewhere.
Did you mean to put more detail on the quantization beat setting? Looks like it was edited out.
Thank you so much
No problem!
I just want this as a hobby nothing else..I still want it
It's awesome :)
i just bought the prime 4+ to use as a hobby. i say do it!
@@marctronixx I bought my prime 4 when it came out..love it
Regarding the effects is the a way u can save your setting
No, but they are very simple and easy to set
woooh Gemni is going to get you calling they stuff crappy
Lol I think we’ll live 😉
djing on this tonight for my first gig
im fucked
? so how did you get on?
Please tell me how could I put my USB in the Controller and have it continuously play all 150 songs all the way through nonstop?????? Anyone can respond to this question
Not sure this has autoplay
@@digitaldjtips thanks you’re absolutely right
@@digitaldjtips the USB has to have the full mix nonstop on the USB in order for it to play each song nonstop. Someone educated me and thank you for your reply. I truly appreciate it.
Great video cheers
Thanks a lot Mark
awesome intro.. very well presented. Can you do another one now for the white edition.. GREAT bit of kit! :)
You know the white edition is just a paint job, right? 👍
@@digitaldjtips yes. But it looks a lot better. :)
Question regarding the four channels can these all play at once so can chop and change or is that not possible
Yes they can all play at once
Hey Phil, can you do this with the new 4 +...? Or is there not that much difference?
4+ has Amazon as a streaming service option. 4+ beta currently has basic stems (although we expect this will come to the 4 too). No other differences.
Hello ! great video! I would like you to help me. When I record a set internally I don't go above 0 dbs, but the resulting sound is very low and I have to normalize it later with a program. Is there any option to prevent this from happening? All the best.
I would just normalise it and not worry further
Thanks
Yes, this is a known 'issue' of all Prime all-in-ones. Put the gains bit higher at around 2 o clock and for the rest use normalize as Phil says. Cheers!
Olá gostaria de saber como faço para saber como deixa as músicas que já foram trocadas elas já marcadas. Na dennon prime 4. Obrigado 😊🙏🏻
Phil do the colour effects work on Vinyl?
I watched this when it was first published a year ago and just re-watched it. Is there any reason you wouldn't buy this in 2022 especially with NAMM 2022 in June? Any chance Denon releases a new Prime 4 controller?
I wouldn't expect any big supply of new controllers any time soon, this is still a current and capable controller.
Is there a sampler on this unit or is there a way to do that even without a dedicated button? I recall someone stating there is is none and I saw a unit at Guitar Center and did not see that option as well. Is there a workaround?
No. No standalone DJ gear like this has a sampler. You'd need to add a hardware sampler plugged into the Aux in.
Phil how are you doing, I am totally blind DJ and I love your videos, I have one question with the prime for, do you have to use the touchscreen, to navigate to your folders and select your tracks, or is there a knob. That you can use on the prime four to go to your different folders and select your tracks to each deck. And can you plug up a. External hard drive at the bottom of the unit, and what hard drive do you prefer, thank you so very much
Yes to the hard drive and also to the track selection! 👍
@@digitaldjtips what is a good external hard drive, that I can get to plug in the bottom of the unit. They said that you can get up to a 4 TB, is that true or can I just get a 2 TB
Question: I usually play on pioneer mixers so had a gig with this system and didn't know how to switch from play list from USB 1 to 2??? Help please
Holding down the small button directly above the main VU meters will take you to the menu you need
Does anyone know if you can use the jog wheel by moving it forward and backwards to cue like you would with a 12” vinyl? I’m a old school DJ.
Yes
Can I play songs from my iPhone over the Prime 4 , while it’s plugged into the usb on the back.
No
Good job ❣️👋
Thanks!
Really appreciated, this is great work!
Quick question: it seems there's no way to change the declared tempo other than x2 or 1/2, correct? (I mean using Engine OS, directly on the Prime 4 - I am using Engine DJ off-line/on the PC to do finer changes to tempo, I understand that part.)
(Speaking of which, I seem to hit some weird glitch or possibly bug there, am in touch with support, some tracks no issue, but other tracks act strangely and change the tempo before an anchor as soon as it's dropped. Just mentioning in case that rings any bells and anyone has helpful input there as well.)
No, there's no way to change the tempo on the unit other that half or double, as you say.
@@digitaldjtips Thx for taking the time to answer!
What about continuous play- for example. If I’m playing diner music, I’ll go looking for a song to put in my prep crate. Now my continuous play switched to the current playlist that I’m in. Very frustrating! :(
Not sure of a way around that.
Hi Guys,
Can We now Plug / connect our Macbook Pro with Big Sur with Serato Pro into this Denon Prime 4 controller? and has the Software been made updated and what are the updates ?
Many Thanks, look forward to your reply.
Definitely check with Denon on that one.
Filter Extreme Type Bleed, Cue Solo, Sync Mode Tempo. I didn't know.
I love to use beatmatchig rather than sync. However when i play a song on channel 1 and set 2nd song on 2nd channel it plays automatically. i have cue points set, but when i hit cue pads it plays the song instantly. i dont want the song to play rather to pause at the cue point set. Am i missing any setting. thank you for your time and reply in advance.
It's in this video..
I guess with the zone output you would have to run a hundred foot xlr cable? I’ve tried wireless but returned it after one event. What are your thoughts and other wireless quality options ? Thank You DJ Allan
Basically, yes. What wireless did you try and why did you return it?
@@digitaldjtips i used the Denon DN-202Wt wireless and it was after one time at one event it was breaking up and i was not far away either !
@@digitaldjtips hi Phil what do you recommend for hooking up a wireless zone output - was waiting for a reply but with holiday week i figured you took some well needed time off. Like i said I returned the denon wireless system as it was breaking up at first event and went back to wired ! Thank You
@@allandenola5968 i just bought the prime 4+ with some alto ts4 15 inch speakers and the alto stealth pro wireless system. i don know what denon uses for transmitting, but the alto unit is uhf and true diversity. i used it over the weekend at a gig and it worked wonderfully.
i am thinking of getting this one prime 4 please can you let me know what is the best memory card to get or dose it come with one ?? thanks .
You'll need to buy one, if you check their website/forum I believe they list some models but it's a 2.5″ SATA hard drive you'll need
Can I connect powered speakers to the Booth output and the Zone output.
Yes
Is there an internal settings that controls the fader? because my prime 4 is brand new and that fader doesn't do anything when I move it left or right.
Buttons on the unit.
@@digitaldjtips which buttons? Can you be more specific?
Look below the line faders, each has a three-way button, you can set it left, right, or off, to assign how the crossfader affects that channel.
Hey u didn’t say anything about the card that goes in the back…
As I can see there isn’t any samples play function. right it?
Correct, there's no Sampler on this
What is your suggestion for hard disk .... samsung, western digitalm seagate , crucial or another
Can i more than 2T
Doesn't matter really, just buy from a reputable brand with good reviews - I personally use Seagate
can you format the internal hdd to 1tb using nfts file system as fat 32 only supports up to 32 gig hdd i have 22,000 mp3 s and 32 gig is not big enough sorry 58,000 i just looked been collecting them ever since windows me was os
No, only exFAT or FAT32
Is there any way to load a track on the first hot cue ?
From memory, no, although Engine 2.0 may have added it and I haven't noticed yet!
can u do one on the roland dj-808 tr drum machine
Now there is a good idea :) No promises but we'll see what we can do!
Do all these songs come with it ?
No, you have to buy your music separately, or subscribe to a supported streaming service.
Do you need speakers
Yes
Is it worth it for a beginner room dj?
what is a "begging" room dj??
Anyways, if you are fine with 2 decks, consider the Prime 2 as the more compact and cheaper alternative. But both are great devices!
Worth it for sure but at the same time if you plan on staying in the bedroom you don't need to spend this kind of money to have a tonne of fun with DJing :)
im a living room dj and i got the prime4+, a set of 15 inch alto speakers, and a wireless system and im a beginner to dj controllers.
Upd Buy the way I buy prime 4 back then, still 🥰
Which is better denon prime 4 vs pioneer xdj xz?
Check this out: ua-cam.com/video/x8z7mph3HTE/v-deo.html
@@digitaldjtips pioneer xdj xz Better..
Depends who you ask ;)
@@digitaldjtips I mean more effector and better to create sets.
where is the auto cue button on Denon DJ Prime 4?
What do you mean by "auto cue" please?
@@digitaldjtips I mean like in most cdjs there is a button which when pressed a red light saying cue lights ups so that the tracks play one by one. Meaning after each track is played the playback stops and does not continue to play the next track. Then when one again depresses the button, the red light saying cue goes off and then the tracks play one after the other non stop. How to do that on denon dj prime controller?
As long as you are DJing from a playlist (not a crate), change the Mode to continuous mode to play that playlist through.
@@digitaldjtips So how do I do that? Could you please explain step by step
@@DANCEWITHSTYLEHK dude, do some basic homework and read the manual. There is no "step by step". It is a simple toggle in the Quick drop down menu.
Re-upload?
No? This is a new video

Awesome, glad to hear it :)
denon dj primme 4 and 4+ needs the crossfader larger its too small
Wow, never heard that before! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Can anyone help me out here... I have a Pioneer DJM 800 mixer and I am in two minds, either to buy 2 Pioneer XDJ 700s or the Denon Prime 4 plus, which would be the better option?
Use the censor for curse words??? Wow... I would put them in a loop to hear them more...:p
Hope one day Denon Adds the Backward loop option of Virtual DJ in their software, is amazing I really missed when I DJ with the prime 4
