    Never buy a Guzzi
    In my experience every new bike you own from then on will be a Guzzi, you will own Guzzi T shirts , have a Guzzi flag in the shed, take amazing continental tours...... to lake Como The Guzzi factory location, do U turns in the middle of nowhere to chase the Guzzi going the other way ,only to do a U turn to chase the same Guzzi coming back at you...
    Feel like a ride now.

    Tires are never a problem for Guzzi riders. We get them for free behind Harley shops - after they wear out the middle, we have a blast wearing out the sides.

    Recently lost our Moto Guzzi dealer. Aprilla was the parent company so those were on offer as well. The Guzzi Stelvio was the 1200GS equivalent and it weighed a ton. The Aprilla Compenord was lighter, but the seat was all wrong. As I told people at the time, it was like my ex-wife: heavy on the power, hard on the balls.
    Even so the Triumph and BMW guys traded their bikes in for Italian rides regularly. Had a chance to ask a Triumph 1200 Explorer rider who was trading in for a Compenord why. His reply boils down to style. Germans are solidly engineered, and British are known to run with a good idea, but the Italian sensibility is something more artistic. While the Stelvio and Compenord would appear to be bad examples (any ADV bike tends to be fugly) they grow on you.

    Your motorcycle observations are the best on Utube by far. Describing Moto Guzzi engine power as instant torque anytime you need it is poetic. Describing direct experience is impossible, but you have come close. Cheers

    I have a Guzzi Quota. They are tall. They have a massive and heavy frame. They handle like they are on rails and they are confidence builders in the corners. The wind plays hell with the abbreviated body work. The Quota is too heavy for read dirt work. Quirks - You have to pull the pan to change the oil filter. It's a Guzzi thing. I change the filter every other oil change.

  • @jroberthadden

    The little lever on the left is an enricher kinda like a choke. Yes, they have a dry clutch. Guzzis have been using five speeds since the early 70s. Too bad you didn't get out on a country road, you'd have loved it even more. They handle wonderfully, sound great, and have very long legs on the highway.

  • @harrylime5147
    @harrylime5147 5 років тому +15

    Guzzi has a dry clutch.. why spin the clutch and pressure plate in oil. Shaft drive. They come from the factory with real horn’s. They are light, they handle well. I have had 4 Moto Guzzi’s since 1979. They are not Japanese perfect. They are not Japanese boring either. They are as reliable and as sophisticated as a sledgehammer. They are a machine you can fix by the side of the road with the tool kit. On paper, the 90° V twin has perfect primary and secondary balance. No need for counter balancer’s. You don’t have to pull the engine out of the frame to do valve adjustments or to remove the heads and cylinders. I don’t see why you would have to remove the heads and the cylinders but you could do it by the side of the road if you had to with minimal tools, I friend of mine broke a valve on his V50 far from home. He pulled the oil pan, removed the rod and piston for that cylinder, he put two stainless Hose clamps around the rod bearing to maintain oil pressure, put everything back together in drove over 200 miles back home. He said it vibrated like the paint shaker but he made it home. Try that with a jap bike...
    . I have never been let down by mechanical failure while riding any of my Guzzis... they’re not that fast, and a jap 600 sport bike will leave any Moto Guzzi ever made in the dust. But on a jab 600, you’re not gonna have that relaxed instant power feel. On a jap 600, you’re always downshifting to find the sweet spot. On a Guzzi,You won’t have to do that much downshifting. Just get that heavy fly wheel spinning, rpms climb and fall at a smooth slower rate than with A jap four-cylinder. That V twin is pretty smooth. You can feel it running, but it’s not shaking you or making the ride unbearable like other motorcycles I won’t mention. They are expensive motorcycles to buy new, and for some reason they just do not hold their resale value. Probably because most people have never heard of them. I often go to cruise nights for motorcycles and I will be the only Guzzi most times.. most of the American motorcycle magazines that evaluate Guzzis like them, but they complain about trivial things like needing two hands to open the lids on the saddlebags on my Norge, or the center stand scraping the ground while cornering.Trivial little fly shit in pepper things they complain about. They overlook things that matter, like large capacity for fuel, ease of maintenance, comfortable ride, excellent brakes, lightweight, good handling, Center stand,real horns, a comfortable machine that’s sure footed in the rain at night on a Windy road.Jap bikes are as perfect as a transistor radio or a battery operated Chinese watch. But they have no soul

      This comment reminds me how absolutely thrilled, excited and happy I was when riding my first Honda. I thought then I reached the moon. This was until... I rode a Moto Guzzi. This is a bike with a soul. Entire spectrum of guzzi models have basically same engine (not counting really early ones, including V8) but each of them 350, 650, 750 , 850 and such feels different on the road and beyond. Fantastic brand. Mr Guzzi used common sense when designing his bikes. How often you ride 300 km/h? How often you use mid range in the power band of your engine? This is what you need then in your bike and you get it in a Moto Guzzi bike.. .A blast to ride. This bike is almost talking to you when you have it on the road. If one never experience the feeling of having Guzzi , one is missing a lot. Italian thinking is vastly different from Japanese or German thinking.

      Excellent storytelling! Loved it. I've owned a Guzzi (1st one!) for about 3 years. Love my V7 Classic. Always get tons of looks when I take it out. She ain't fast, but she's gorgeous and does EVERYTHING I want her to do. I live in a city of about 800K, and there are MAYBE 3 Guzzis in my city. I LOVE that.

      Moto Guzzi is a fringe brand in the U.S. Not well represented. Still, i found several thousand dollars to be the bottom of the market for Moto Guzzi's and in that price bracket you were shopping for 70's era bikes. Except my '76 1000 i convert and that's an old police model with an unconventional dual range box and torque converter. I suppose the small block V7 models may not have great resale but the Griso, Stelvio and Centaro i believe are discontinued or in the Centaro's case may have never been brought into the U.S. So their rarity may help them and at least the Griso seems to fare well. Still, they don't have the demand among mainstrem buyers but the Griso seems to be sought among Guzzi faithful. Still, the scarcity of dealers holds them back from widespread demand. They are quality bikes though and that helps keep good running examples of any age worth several thousand dollars i have found. With the i convert the easiest to get into because there seem to be more of those as projects tucked away in garages. Any pattern of Moto Guzzi's having poor resale value is likely due to impatient sellers and limited buyers because of a scarcity of dealers and therefore a brand that has quality and uniqueness going for it but it's unfamiliarity to the mainstream buyer going against it. Exposure to their uniqueness, quality and engineering plus ease of maintainance and good handling cultivates most new Moto Guzzi owners i'd guess. It's what sold me but the fact that the U.S. market has overwhelmingly been 750cc and up bikes and the qualities mentioned above means it's been hard for me at least to find Moto Guzzi's of any vintage for under a couple thousand dollars and up.

    If you like how flat the curve is, that's how the v7 is too. When you get a proper exhaust and tune on a v7 it can be a real romper of a bike for the canyons where you are kind of going hard in all the way the whole time, and each gear there is just power just sitting there holding firm. It's awesome.

    I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned this yet. Because I didn't read the comments. However the cupping on the front tire is a result of front Tire breaking on the pavement with a semi off-road tire. It happens a lot with full off-road tires.

    • @harrylime5147
      @harrylime5147 5 років тому +1

      Cupping happens on lots of tires. Street tires, dual sport tires, DOT approved trials tires, It is normal.
      Someone wrote in to one of the big magazines, cycle, or motorcyclist, years ago, the question to the writer was, why do my tires wear out on the left side of Center. The writer for the magazine replied, that he should have his frame checked.
      That right there tells you what kind of writers they have these magazines sometimes..
      Anyway, that writer, should have known, that all street motorcycle tires wear out on the left side of Center first. The reason is, highways in the United States are built with a crown to drain water. The road surface slopes to the right...Consequently, tires wear out slightly on the left side first. It doesn’t mean your frame is bent, and if you have cupping on your front tire, that is also normal. It doesn’t mean The steering head bearings are bad, or you have a bent fork tube, or a bad wheel bearing, or that one brake caliper bites harder than the other, it’s just time for some fresh meats. Replace them both at the same time when one wears out first.

    Guzzi's do have a dry clutch, and you better hope you never have to change it lol. It's a pain in the a**. That extra little lever above the clutch is a fuel enricher. Kind of works like a choke, but for fuel-injection. Just helps for cold starts. I've owned quite a few Guzzi's in my life and still own 5! Lol, they're just unique reliable motorcycles. Especially the ol loop frame models.

    Speaking of tire wear. I have a question for you. Since all tires wear and there are millions of old worn out tires in the recycle center, here is my question. Where is all the rubber that has worn off all those tires??? Where did the rubber off the tires go??? Why isn't there "strips" of chewed up tire rubber lining all our roads? Mystery isn't it... I KNOW SRKcycles can answer that question since I have all the faith in the world in you guys!
