I love those classic Atari sound effects. I wish I was born in 1975 so I could grow up with the 2600 then the NES then the SNES...N64 & Gamecube etc...
"Worm War 1" was the first in the series of games made by 20th Century-Fox for the Atari VCS/2600. There were many games that Fox made during 1982 and 1983 before the video game crash happened. It includes "Alien", "MASH", "Turmoil", "Porky's", "Flash Gordon", "Beeny Bopper", "Spacemaster X7" and many other games that Fox developed. Many of these are based off of movies made by Fox, and many of them are completely originals.
Your voice is so smoothing I was so sleepy on my computer you put me to sleep. Not that your reviews put me to sleep, but if you're sleepy listen to the CLASSIC GAME ROOM MAN
I own a copy of this game and it's a favorite of mine. I buy alot of games, including homebrews. I've long wished that someone would make a Worm War II. For the 2600 though, not the PlayStation 8 (or whatever). The best strategy for scoring big is to go slow, shooting every block in sight (sometimes I wait to shoot the last worm until I've taken out as many blocks as possible). When approaching a gas station I speed up slightly, until I reach the point where I know that I have time enough to accelerate to full speed, because as you said, you get more gas the faster you go through the station. But going fast at any other time burns through the fuel too fast. If a worm gets too close to the bottom of the screen I will speed past it, hugging a wall if possible. There are several game variations. I'm not surprised that you didn't show those where the worms are only visible for a second or so, and then disappear. There is considerable flashing during those variations, which may cause seizures in some people.
Wow I just shot everything thinking it's a shmup just shoot everything but what are these houses? Now I know to go right into them and kill the worms... Now I totally see your River-Raid reference.
OMG! I just like those weirdly awesome sound effects, I don´t know it just sounds so old and so futuristic at the same time...anyway atari games have the most spectacular visuals evar! U just keep playing and looking to that screen nowadays and thing that tgose visuals are great, isn´t that awesome!! xD
Fun Fact: "Project Dolphin" was an early codeword for the Nintendo Gamecube. So Mark's idea is not too far fetched. Donkey Kong 64 has an easter egg hinting at this.
It's fun just got it at my local game shop. The faster u go through the hut aka gas station, the more gas u get. Otherwise it's cool to keep it slow. Just speed up for gas pickups
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING will ever surpass the utter design brilliance and story telling genius of Space Gar. Period. Now if I could just find my Atareks 5201 I could play it.
I remember... somehow this game one day found its way into my home and I had completely forgotten about it. I got curious about this game watching the review and searched for the box scan. Amazingly, the mushrooms are really gas stations shaped as pagodas, go figure! A mushroom makes much more sense if you're fighting against worms (or you want to trip out). Nice review, just a little bit too large, you started to talk about the gameplay about half of it after talking so much nonsense.
could you imagine how messed up the game industry would be if they had mark as their main pitchman? At the very least, there'd be a lot of original games.
Mark, what are you doing? Don't you realize that if you convince Sony to use dolphins as controllers you are only helping to further the dolphin agenda of world domination? Think about it, soon enough everyone has a dolphin in their home and while they're asleep the dolphins will use the hypnotic powers of the krill that power the PS8! This review is like the events that cause Judgment Day in the Terminator series...only instead of robots, it's dolphins.
I honestly have no idea how you can pull a 7-10 minute review out of the simplest most random mediocre atari 2600 lol Its very impressive. Most other people probably wouldnt be ale to go more than 24 seconds on this game

I love 20th Century Fox games! Turmoil is amazing!
Looks fun and a bit unique
Mark's pauses are known as sarcasm & narative which is known as excellent as are Worm War I and CGR!
It's hard to believe that game kept me entertained for so long....
Your voice is so smoothing I was so sleepy on my computer you put me to sleep.
Not that your reviews put me to sleep, but if you're sleepy listen to the CLASSIC GAME ROOM MAN
I missed out on this game back in the 80's :( These reviews bring such good memories back though!
I had this game back in the day. It was actually really fun. I remember my parents confiscating my atari for hours on end to play it.
Dude, your show should be on national television.
I spent hours playing it. Loved it.

Why does the animation look so satisfying

Love this more than my family.
His voice is clear and comprehensive, unlike IGN's boring, 3 minute constant babbling reviews.
I remember this game :) One was one of my favorite games.Oh this sound takes me to past times.
NIce use of colour. and 'neon' type graphics
This was some underground stuff.
this review made me laugh so much...thanks, man!
The SDK to develop for the Gamecube (as well as the Wii, nowadays) is the Dolphin SDK, as well. The games are coded in pure Dolphin language.
Awesome! What a review :)
Will the PS8 be compatible with Vectrex games and Steel Battalion controllers?
yes but need need to buy a special controller.
The R927 adapter will allow for this, but only if you hotwire its desert falcon chip.

Gotta love Mark's pointless rants about random things, playstation 8? Dolphins? Haha, this is why I love CGR :D
Love It!
It's fun just got it at my local game shop. The faster u go through the hut aka gas station, the more gas u get. Otherwise it's cool to keep it slow. Just speed up for gas pickups
Classic, played the crap out of it. Loved it. So simple...
I can see the heavy Space Gar influences in this game
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING will ever surpass the utter design brilliance and story telling genius of Space Gar. Period.

How many bits does that sound have? 4? either way, nice video, sounds like metroid II, one of my all time favorite games
Worm war 2 FTW!
The opening song is so damn catchy.
@Kazanu06 It's a Firefox extension! It was just later ported to Chrome, but the Firefox version is much more powerful.
lol say word son. sony best listen 2 my boy. i Agree with EVERYTHING this man said haha. good vid my man
World war 3 will be on the Atareks 5202, in the same cartridge as Space Gar: collector's/special/plus/aniverssary/director'scut edition.
great video sir but I love Atari 2600 but I am surprised seizure not more of a problem
@mariodivine they were actually supposed to be pagodas -- it was a Japanese sci-fi theme.
pretty cool.
@Cdinkha No not for the a2600 the NES or the remake for the SNES.That what I meant
seems a fun game to play :)
Mark is the best
@MikePitcher Google Chromes AdBlock extention removes those ads in the player.
Hooray for youtube audio transcripts. Playstation Aids.
Shrooms on gas stations! Yea! Worm War 666!
@IronFury lol did he mention dolphins taking over the world in another review? that seems familiar
If i had to save either CGR or my grandma, CGR would be safe.
ha I think I've heard everyone of those sounds in a different Atari 2600 game as well.
could you imagine how messed up the game industry would be if they had mark as their main pitchman? At the very least, there'd be a lot of original games.
lol nice vid man :D
@Atari2600Gamer Worms = Awesome sauce.
I love how the called it worm war 1 cause they new there would be a sequel.
Interesting theory. I know I'm waiting for Worm War 2. It's gonna start a new religion.
@ProblmSolvd its not its the worm spattering when its shot.
3rd, and wow. looks like space invader
I wonder if the dolphin controller will have a vibration and a motion sensor.
It looks boring to me now but when I was a kid I could play this for hours.
dam that 2nd dolphin will be expensive
Gonna scoop this up on Mercari lol
I love the way he pauses, it makes him sound bad ass for some reason. i dont know... just... fuck off or something.
@renlic173
yeah? and how much then?
Best part: 4 1/2 minutes in, "Let me explain the gameplay."
I just thought that Worm War 1 was a really bad pun on World War 1, not necessarily a game going for a sequel (although no doubt it likely was).
@daddyjankie Ummmmm Super Mario Bros. was never on the atari2600.It was on NES.
After Worm War II should come Worm War V.
It's so awesome that they skipped the other 2 Worm Wars.
What about Worm War 3 for the Playstation 50? =)
@rickyjshiznit
Mark gave the prophecy over 10 years ago during his review of Ecco the Dolphin.
I doubt there was a sequel in mind. I think calling it 'One' was really just to make the title a pun on "World War I"
wouldn't having a live dolphin controler be a little hard to use plus what happens when it can't breath.
I can't tell if Mark doesn't get it's a play on the words "World War I" or not.
Ppl be asking bout the sequel but yo kno just a play on words. Instead of World War II its Worm War I.
Will 20th Century Fox make the movie World Worm 1 and 2. That would be awesome. LOL. I wouldn't mind seeing it as a double bill. ;)
yay
ALL HAIL MARK BUSSLER
KING OF VIDEO GAMES

Dammit I want an atari 2600
PETA would have a hissy fit if the PS8's controllers were dolphins...
@Cecilink60 Don't forget the people the made this game. Bait shops.
worm war 2 will come in a bundle with Duke Nukem Forever^^
I honestly have no idea how you can pull a 7-10 minute review out of the simplest most random mediocre atari 2600 lol Its very impressive. Most other people probably wouldnt be ale to go more than 24 seconds on this game
This game looks kinda lame, but that ok, the gameplay might be fun. Nice review mark!
@LizardDean Becasue their sound chip is so advanced
perhaps they were attempting to make "Worm War" Sound like "World War"
do you have a problem with talking?
anyway this is a great game and a great vid
@1337BleachFan I thought World War 1 was a play on Worm War 1.
You know mark I feel as though if you call you could a press entry to E3.
Krill!
Wouldn't dolphin controllers be REALLY heavy?
@MrNDSteinbach I heard the PSX was going to be run on imagination.
It is a journalistic review.
i picked this up thinking it said world war 1 not worm war 1...silly me....its a fun game anyway
so the playstion 8 will have 2 gamecube controllers
notice that the worm turns into a person after shot?
Sony is still screwing us on that second dolphin.
If worms' had machine guns there would be no birds or games like Worm War I... LOL
this reminds of galaxy 2003 from warioware
Atari 2600 sounds scares me...
I want a PS 8 with dolphins!
PS8? hes insane
