We should still preserve the supplies that we find for medical uses first. Don't keep wasting it on balloons, even if it's just a small amount of the total.
We shouldn't be release helium balloons into the air. It's just pollution.
@@zacharythornton1904 -- Why is it funny? The noble gases are all a finite resource. We don't have a way to capture and reuse them.
@@TakenTook because there’s plenty to go around. Lots of oil rigs release helium into the air if it was as scarce as they say helium prices would be really expensive
That means that nearby is either a large pool of hydrocarbons (oil, gas, etc.) or uranium.
My bet is uranium.
This is fantastic news! The federal government unlocking reserves has made healthcare nervous.
You think these capitalists won't try to sell it off to the highest bidder?
This discovery is great news since helium is in very short supply due to the increase in clowns in the US.
@@aprilfalls2405 the racist democrats moved to the republican party in the 60's after the democrats passed the Civil Rights Act. Republicans have been working to dismantle it since then.
If fusion ever gets going , we'll have an extra source of helium. And there is no shortage of H2.
Very, very good news for the US and particularly Minnesota. This is not just a 'flash in the pan'.
Congratulations. Good to hear of news that has value.
Sooooo the price of helium is going to go up or down? Boundary waters. Nothin to see here folks.
When they went to the first clip it would have been awesome if the guy talking had a high pitched voice.
No breathing in some Helium to get a squeaky voice ???
😂😂❤❤
I can't tell you how high this news makes me. I am a party balloon.
Why ppl dont use air for baloons

What do you call a person that speaks more than one language? …multilingual.
What do you call someone that only speaks one language? …American.
Interesting that this comes on the heels of the US selling off a huge amount of helium to other countries just last month.
Also, the fact that we are talking scarcities of ANYTHING is about as terrifying as it gets.
You aint kidding, Russia really gonna be pissed, but it is pretty wild that this discovery happen just after the deal goes down. Now there gonna have to create a new agency for Helium extraction, taxes, etc
Wait…wasn’t this well dug YEARS ago for precision metals and helium was first discovered at this site YEARS ago?
Why is this news? They haven’t built an extraction system at the site (where helium has already been discovered before this ‘update’), so it seems odd the site is still deemed as a discovery when it’s years old… 🤔
I do not understand why the U.S. government sold the national helium reserve to private equity.
We hadn't been ripped off in a while? Or maybe the private equity firm was run by former government administrators of the reserve?
Wonderful news the world is short on this right now
Look at that we’re getting a natural resource out of our own ground! Well, there is a novel concept
Jackpot
we have MRI for another 100 years
after that people gonna be pissed about those party balloons
We can all raise our voices with this find.
Hilarious misapplication of words but expected in a region where mining use to prevail. The "discovery" was accomplished by drilling not digging and the helium is sequestered in a reservoir not a mine. 🙃
With how rare helium is it shouldn't even be allowed to be used on wasteful purposes like balloons
In a free market economy the vendor can choose to whom he wants to sell his products restricting the market will just cause a black market in helium balloons.
Jonah's a dynamite reporter. we're lucky to have him.
Did anyone hear an estimate of how much helium they are talking about? An amount or a dollar figure? *Great* reporting. Worthless but a great balloon.
It’s a gas!
We’ll keep finding them. We thought we’d run out of fossil fuels by now too
I knew they are holding out
Imagine all of those drill crews suddenly talking like Mickey Mouse.
Bring disco duck back
Hydrogen is very lighter and cheaper that helium. But careful inflamable.
Hydrogen's very reactive, too. Tends to eat metals and react with stuff you don't want reacting. Helium's a noble gas, so it won't react with anything.
Tanzania has zero production of helium just explorers hoping to in the future at this stage...
Hellium very rare here on earth very abundant everywhere else.
This is going to load to more inflation.
party balloons.... why??? Even 3% is too much.
Free market economy, otherwise there would be a black market for helium balloons.
Wheeeerr-eeeeee-eeeee eee eee eee eee. Flat minor
Minnesota will somehow virtue signal this out of existence
Uh oh, balloons!
Wonder what foreign country we are going to sell this to?
It starts with C and ends with A and Biden and Hunter are close personal friends
@@arthurbrumagem3844 Still going on about Hunter.. I highly doubt Canada is going to need the entire reserve.
The Walz regime will never allow mining of helium in the Babbitt area
@@baxtronx5972you obviously need to check Walzs and his handpicked Lackeys record in mining in northern Minnesota. They’ll never allow that Helium mining there
Thank Congress from the 1990s for tanking the helium production industry.
Regardless of production capacity, it is still a finite resource. Finding another large pocket is only a temporary reprieve. We should not be wasting helium on frivolous things like balloons, but instead saving it for more important medical and industrial uses.
This is a joke...Right? Drilling for helium?
That's got to be a joke.
The helium underground comes from alpha particles emitted during the radioactive decay of heavy elements.

Is this a scam? Just sayin’ I’m a geologist doesn’t make sense very unconventional
I believe they’ll soon find a uranium deposit nearby. Possibly hydrocarbons. We’ll see.
Decaying uranium forms helium, as does the process that forms complex hydrocarbons.
Holy cow! A bunch of new billionaires in that area. Clampets are back!

Somehow, minnesotans are about to see a huge increase in taxes. Somehow.
It was going to happen anyway, this way it's just faster and more. Remember, our new migrants live tax free. It's a lifestyle that is appealing and adaptable.

@scottsehm1661thank god for term limits, that fool is done after this term no matter what, now if we can get rid of enough other dumocrats to make it all even we MIGHT get a chance at a government that isn’t so stupid.
I'm sure the drilling process will effect some species of a mosquito so they will scrap the project. Go Minnesota government!
Now, We just need Trump 🇺🇸
Funny how you had to put Trump from the US. I'm sure people know you're not talking about Trump from Argentina.
Helium is rarer than you think. Helium reserves are depleting all around the world
More than that, the use of it is thousands of times more than it was 20 years ago, and the future cant happen with out it, in our future to get tech is going to cost 100,000 times MORE than we have on earth
