What a wicked singer Lou Gramm is , only having a guitar backing him , his voice is so clear , just perfect . I grew up with these guys , and have many memories of Foreigner and all of the great music they made for us to enjoy . No matter how many singers that this band has had over the years , nobody and i mean NOBODY will ever be able to replace Lou Gramm on lead vocals , Lou was Foreigner , end of story . The man is underated as a singer really . Lou has one of the greatest voices in rock and roll history .
Lou Gramm the best vocals! Still listen to his music & I'll turn 60 @ the end of the yr.. What a dream it would be to meet & listen to him sing. I never had the chance cause I always had to work to keep myself going in life. Nursing is an exhausting but fulfilling job when you save lives. Wishing him good health & hope he is enjoying life.
First concert I see 1981 Foriegner 4 I think I was 16 in Norman Oklahoma,they exploded a jukebox on stage. I’m 58 grandpa now I will never forget it.Lou sang perfect 🙌🏻
Lou Gramm's voice was so good in this taping that he sounds fantastic with what a guitar and /or a piano and no auto tune...nothing. One of the best voices in Rock and Roll history. Not only that look closely....he is sitting down and singing that means an artist has excellent control of their voice and range....
Lou Gramm is one of the most under rated vocalists, in my opinion. He is one of my favorites, and always has been since I first heard him sing when I got my first Foreigner album in the late 70's.
I'm so thankful that Lou Gramm survived his bout with brain cancer.. brain cancer does weird really strange things to it's victims bodies .. especially the pituitary gland.. I know I spelled pituar8ty gland bad wrong .. but , it really does a number on people .. Lou Gramm doesn't look like himself .. God Bless Him.. I love him so very much .. a voice like velvet .. ♥️✌️❤️
It was a benign tumor. Apparently born with it and it began to grow and bother him in 90s. Successfully removed in 1997, by a great surgeon. I think Lou recently retired
I still think he is somewhere between a low and mid tenor leaning more towards a mid-tenor with a slightly lower voice than Robert Plant. I am kind of surprised how much of his adam's apple is protruding, but his speaking voice even if deeper than expected still sounds boyish in a way. Higher tenor singers usually have no visible adam's apple. The only higher tenor singer with a visible adam's apple that I am aware of is Donovan Melero.
@@soysaucehairdye7869 Lou Gramm's speaking voice is a bit higher now. You'd think it would be the opposite but it's not. I believe it's got higher due to the brain tumour he had which affected his stamina alot. He's made great progress in recent years.
@@soysaucehairdye7869 Wrong, Lou is a first tenor, if you haven't done it, listen to Robert Plant live then listen to Lou live from 1977 to about 1985. A mid tenor is somebody like Steve Lukather in TOTO or ex Chicago singer Bill Champlin they cant reach those high first tenor notes thats why Toto had Bobby Kimball and Chicago had Cetera or Jason Scheff. As a singer myself, I can say , Lou before the brain tumor had an exceptional wide range. A Very rare singer who can sing high, low or middle and still maintain that power back in the day.
@@waltersimmons946 To me a mid-tenor in rock is someone like Chris Simpson from Mineral who has a higher voice than Lou, but a voice that isn't light enough timbre to be that of a high tenor. Another good example of a mid-tenor is Black Francis from The Pixies. A light mid-tenor is someone like Jeremy Enigk from SDRE or Jonny Craig from the first two LPs of Emarosa. With that said, Lou's voice is very bright and close to being what I would consider a mid-tenor. I definitely think Lou has a one in a million voice and I am not insulting the guy. @@soysaucehairdye7869 Understood but Lou is not a mid tenor hes a first tenor, I studied voice in college which is irrelevant here but it is what it is. If you listen to his Black Sheep albums or Poor Heart music before Foreigner, I can make the case on that. He had his vocal style long before Mick Jones tried to take credit for Lous singing abilty because the songs Mick wrote or co wrote with Lou , those songs had him to stretch out more. Lous first replacement Johnny Edwards is a baritone , his speaking voice is much lower than Lous but when he sang on 1991s Unsual Heat or the classics during his 1990_1992 period with the band, Johnny sang the classics in the same key as Lou. Kelly Hansen came into Foreigner much older than Lou or Johnny and sings the classics and some of his own Foreigner songs a key or two lower than his predecessors in the live performances yet his fans seemed to go along with that . Tommy Shaw of Styx sings first tenor but speaks in a baritone fashion and guess what ? He's 68 yrs old and still sings Blue Collar man and Fooling Yourself in the exact same keys he did 44 to 45 years ago. Those two songs of Tommy's are definitely not sung in mid tenor keys. Sorry but that's the truth . I don't mean to come on like I'm ragging you on it but there are mid tenors and usually those singers carry the melody of most songs , between a 1st tenor and baritone specialy in the chorus of songs . Lou is carrying the highest part of the chorus on Feels like the first time and back in the day, he hits the notes very easily . Frequent touring and catching colds sometimes made him avoid certain high notes "live " because it made his voice feel worn down. But yes he was still distinctive even when he had an "off" night.

I agree with the comments about Lou Gramm's voice. What an awesome sound. I'm just sorry they couldn't have stayed together and produced more Foreigner hits.
After a 19-hour-long laser surgery to remove his brain tumor, which was wrapped around his optic nerve and destroyed his pituitary gland (and perhaps radiation treatment if you say so, but that is news to me), and being advised to take a year-and-a-half to rest and recuperate, Lou was back touring with Foreigner just 3-1/2 weeks later, and suffering to the point that at times he actually feared he might die while out on the road.
Not by choice. The band's manager or producers resdcheduled the tours giving Lou only 2 months to recover from amajor, life changing, debilitating illness and surgery. Talk about cold as ice. He should have done what Steve Perry did and just never come back. Steve put his mental and physical health first.
