Thank you IIHS for your work. And an even bigger shout out for all of the dummies who lost their lives so we can stay safe on the road. R.I.P. Dummies.
Great job everyone. It's always nice to see behind the scenes... Keep up the great work. We are all safer because of the tests you guys do.
Marvin. YOU have my dream job brother. 🙂
"Dummy calibration lab" also describes my high school English class.
Thank you for this video, it's so interesting how the crash test for vehicles are prepared. You guys help make the vehicles more safer to drive.
You guys and dummies are awesome
I didn't realise that much went into a crash test dummy! I always thought you guys just put it in there and that was it. By the way, when will the Mazda CX-90 be tested for crash safety?
Just like going back in the 90s with dateline nbc all over again. very nice
I wish i could get ready for work like the dummy, eye hook screwed into my head, hoisted and winched to my job
Hope you can test more positions of seating. Lots of people arent sit the exact position (not due to body dimension, but just personal preference of seating position, like seat height, recline degree, or front or backwards. For passengers, some may even rest their heads outwards to windows.) as the test dummies are at. And this can greatly vary the seatbelt results. (Most car manufacturer only care for the standard test dummy position)
He just like me fr fr
Is there any way i could get a tour of the place? I don’t live that far away I know the main facility is in Arlington, VA
A tour would be amazing! Especially if there’s a possibility of observing a crash test live! I would love to visit as well.
Should've had a day in a life soundtrack in the background.
He’s Like, “Dude, I can hear you, Stop calling me Dummy” 🤨‼️
Idk how i ended up searching for crash test dummies
This is irrelevant, but when was the last time the institute used a shot on film camera?

Do you guys have multiple location nationwide? I would love to work for you!
For the 2024 Top Safety Pick award, what happens in vehicles without rear seats?
The biggest-selling vehicle models all have rear seats.
🎉
He gotta be my friend
Will you please crash test the jeep grand Cherokee 1997 gray
Overall not incredible safety (particularly for the legs), but was considered serviceable for the time. Of course, since safety standards have progressed since then a modern evaluation would be far more critical of the vehicle!
About how long will a dummy last?
They can probably last a long time just with replacing parts, but then that comes with the Ship of Theseus.
@@LousyHealer13 Yeah I was just hoping for a little bit more, like it would be cool if they explained how they maintained them and what kind of parts they replaced and how they got those parts. Like do they have a supplier for the accelerometers but maybe make other components in-house? Like I said, I was just hoping for more interesting details or maybe some history. It would be cool if they went over how they've changed throughout the years.
Dummies last a long time but regularly need new parts. The skin, for example, is replaced frequently. After tests our technicians run certification tests in which the dummy is struck with known forces to make sure that it's reading the correct force. If it's outside of a specific tolerance, we'll need to replace sensors and or have them calibrated. We do not calibrate in house, but rather send parts to Humanetics (the manufacturer) for replacement or calibration.
@@iihs-hldi Cool! Thanks for the reply!
Are you guys hiring?
