- Here is my take on the RAGBRAI 50TH ANNIVERSARY ride. This truly was one L of a ride. If you've not watched the individual days yet please check out the playlist for more detailed descriptions of our ride.
There were some challenges that we faced on this one with thousands of other riders: HEAT, HUMIDITY, LONG MILE DAYS, and the list goes on. This was the first RAGBRAI that I did / attempted that I had not gotten enough training miles in. Signed on before the route was announced and didn't really care to much where it was going - just that it was the 50th. Each RAGBRAI creates lasting memories, some memories better than others...
Personal challenges of not training enough, some mechanical issues on the bike and HEAT, sure made this one interesting. Thanks again to everyone that stopped by and said Hi, took a picture with me, and overall just brightened my day by telling me they enjoyed the content we have been posting.
Big Shout out to @duzer for creating such inspirational adventure content here on UA-cam. As well as being an inspiration for me to start this crazy little channel. IF you are not subscribed to his channel - you really have to ask yourself about your life choices... Check him out!
Gotta love me some @AdventuresofAplusK these two waited to have Iowa be their 50th state visited, and rode the 50th RAGBRAI. If you're not familiar with their travel / adventure content, they are well worth checking out. We have been watching them for a few years now, and often find ourselves having been to the same cool spots.

Great Phil - Thanks. Big Training days and a full bike service before RAGBRAI LI 😂
Yes for sure! Crazy thing I'd had it in a couple times and the shifting problem did go away albeit temporarily. Had it in to the shop that built my wheels, after L for a wheel check (something they do regularly) mentioned it to them and they "fingers crossed" fixed it. I'm pretty confident
We took an Iowa vacation from central Illinois this year, and brought out bikes. We knew about the High Trestle, so we did it. A Google search mentioned the Racoon River trail. We got on at Adel, went to Panora and back. Best trail we have seen yet. 8 foot wide runway smooth cement is unheard of in my area!
Well come back for sure and do the entire loop. The Hernden corner is where the surface changes. From Waukee it's all the new pavement. The section you did is the older surface, which is still better than most places. Reach out if you need any trip planning suggestions
Great video man, My wife Beth and I met up with you I think was day 3 #team985 from LA. We exchanged sticker on bike 😉. Thanks for the content and we enjoyed meeting you. Keep up the great videos
Ryan ✌🏽
Yes! Great meeting you and Beth as well. Your sticker is proudly displayed on my wall in my home bike shop. I'll put it on my Instagram so you can check it out!
Were you able to track oldsters? Do they even keep those logs anymore? I did my first in 1989, '90 and '91. (Or did I skip 91 and then it's lumped in with the 1992 adventures? Now I can't remember!)
That's a good question for the Ragbrai office, do they have those participant registrations from back in the day...
Is your charter service PBV?
No we did Central Iowa Charters. Nice group of folks
