I purchased FREE on a whim looking for CDs to buy on one of those club deals in 1988, IIRC. Knew nothing about them. I was blown away. What a powerful voice!
There is so much nuance to what she does with her voice and her tonality is gorgeous. You can't teach these things.

The talent in this band is hard to comprehend...Johnette's songs, her vocals, and James's clever guitar riffs-who can touch this? Today, rank amateurs fill the charts by comparison.
I grew up in the 60s&70s I listened to Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin & the great rock bands, Concrete Blonde ranks right up there with them in my opinion
I really enjoy this song, and it's so outside my normal listening. But I'm blown away by their heavier and darker stuff like Jonestown. The diversity of this band is exceptional.
Just watched a video of two high school girls playing Joey, which was amazing. Now I’m trippin down UA-cam to remember why this band and her rocked my world for decades.
I get the love for Janis, for breaking molds and singing with passion. I can listen to Janis for a few songs, but Johnette all day. Way more sophistication and nuance to what she can do. Just crazy amazing talent.
Is this drummer Harry Rushakof? This is solid! Never a fan of Concrete Blonde, but was familiar with Joey when it came out. Always thought it was a decent song. Heard it on Sirius 90’s coming home early yesterday and was like wow!! Both these songs!!!!!!
What a night! Remembering it better now that we got to see the video.... thanks for the reminders and a call out to LC we love you wherever you are thanks for the bread crumbs we were starving
Like these tunes they did two on this show it seems and really great tunes beautiful voice and Guitar tone Drummer is Perfect the stems from the bass and the drummer and the vocals would be how to learn this Sorry James but how else can I learn lol ill just be borrowing a few things ..
This was the result of the late 80's "lip synching" thing (thanks Milli Vanilli)! People forget that these singers actually DID have the talent to perform these songs. The album versions were actually sung. Of course they were mixed but these folks did SING them. Not auto-tuned.
Well I'll tell you this I'm 78 years old I saw This wonderful woman and her band concrete blonde In Los Angeles I think it was at the Greek theater Think it was somewhere somewhere somewhere around 9091 something like that I'll take Joanne Over Taylor swift It ain't day of the week My god she is a grown up grown up mature authentic woman singing grown up painful painful Authentic Important Taylor swift Taylor swift is Stop Taylor swift is a child Stop Taylor swift is a child in comparison
She should have played Bass on this tune.... the dude playing bass was just a root note player.... there's a lot more going on in the song... and SHE is a GREAT Bassist !!!!
One of those female singers with more talent in her little finger than many who had more success,
mankey is the best guitarist i’ve ever seen live. ever.
johnette was really good too at what she did
johnete ,Patti smith as melhores vozes de todos os tempos
Because she didn't sell her soul to the music industry.
Agreed...I wish.. but I don't.. but I wish she went more mainstream.. but I don't.. but I wish she did.. did that make sense??.. because she rules
Oh God.... she's fantastic... no one like her!!!... I'm 54 I've been loving her since at least '88
Man, so many years later and she still gets me in my soul. Sultry, haunting and beautiful. What a singer. ❤️
Not only one of my favorite singers but she is one hell of a GOOD song writer.
Her lyrics are so amazing and visual.

My most favorite female voice ever!!!

What a powerful voice and message. Great song writing.
Completely tragically most underrated, overlooked band EVER. Seen them live 5 times and they were amazing EVERYTIME
My god she's such a badass talent
That's a hell of a voice.
Hell of a Front Woman!!!
One of most talented singer from the 80s 💕

Your comment should start "The most....."
Fact!
The passion of her singing...the pain in her voice..soothing to those that have been trough those hard times

Saw them on this tour in Providence and she kept saying how surprised she was that so many people were there at the show.
I met her as a fare in my cab many years ago in New Orleans and we became friends and still are to this day love me some Johnette ❤
That’s fantastic.

100%. I get lost in her voice. Can't be topped
Wow! Incredible ❤
What a band the best !!!
Wow, what a real diva! That voice and the way she carries herself.... I'm was this woman's puppet! Concrete blonde soo underated.
One of my all time favourite bands.
Not used to seeing Johnette without a bass. Pretty cool Tom is sitting in.
It is, but she wails the bass like the boss bitch that she is ❤
Someday? is my favourite Concrete Blonde song. Johnette has an amazing voice and is sexy as hell.
I really enjoy this song, and it's so outside my normal listening. But I'm blown away by their heavier and darker stuff like Jonestown. The diversity of this band is exceptional.
Seen them numerous times and they never disappoint. My all time favorite female vocalist and song writer. 🤘🏻❤️🤘🏻

Such talent!
Back when vocalists actually used their voices instead of electronic auto tune and lip sync. ❤
And displayed GENUINE passion!
Wow!
Just deadly. None better.
❤❤❤
So fucking great.
Beautiful❤
Love to watch Johnette perform, right up there with Janis

Karahoukas Surf Saquarema ITAÚNA clássico 🌊🌊🏄♀️🏄♂️🌊
They are s great band, but I keep staring at Mr. PETERSON, talented and handsome. And a smile that could bring world peace.
Probably not a good thing, but I can relate to Joey. TY for sharing this wonderful bit of late night history, one of my favorite Bands. Good stuff.
Hopefully you're relating to Joey with the distance of memory.
They say they're not angry anymore, but they are. And for good reason.
@@WordUnheard can't put someone through that and expect them to both forgive and forget.
Love it. Love her. Also love looking at Dennis Miller before he lost his mind
I saw lots of bands in the 1970's - '90's, but I wish I'd seen them. I envy those who did!
Sound quality is great!
Smashing.
Thank you...this is a gem.

Men wish they could sing with the power Johnette has
LOVE!!!!

Forever ♥
Wow, I would have loved to be part of the conversation between Johnette and Crispin Glover backstage.
Guitar work by James Mankey is gold. And Johnette's shimmy dance ain't to bad either
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Cheap Trick's Tom Petersen on bass.
Petersson
Concrete Blonde has crossover potential but it did not happen. I only heard them on KROQ.
Fire woman, you're to blame! (c)

cousin it should play the tambourine in this band!
Is that Jeff Mankey on guitar?
Jim.
James mankey
Gabriel on drums
Looks like Harry Rushakov.
With TOM PETERsSon for crying out loud. Too bad the sound engineers still didn't know how to capture a 2-string bass.
I drank Joeys last beer just saying... Love this band and these tunes..
Joey 2:50
sexy, beautiful & talented
JOEY!!!
Ameer Sephora yeah bring on the badass Joey
@@cassandrafenton2160 i was just like shocked and glad to see a live version from back when it came out

The bass player from Cheap Trick.
só ficou melhor com a idade.....
There isa life long invitation to Johnette to marry me
That 12 string bass is not fitting for this situation. The original was 4 string and tight. Commy Tom had to muck it up with all that mud.
