YOU must do that. I also, can't drink that much Coke in one sitting...even with Fernet it in. I usually don't even make it in a glass this large. I usually end up making it in a smaller glass. ¡Salud!
Un cordoba, this drink is shared with friends, all drink from the same bottle. Fernet with come is a drink madre forma share. The half-cutted bottle is a recomendacion. Sorry muy bad english
Real talk I used to bring this to house parties and offer anyone a taste of the cocktail I made and offer them free reign of the bottle to make their own if they wish. It was a great way to bring your own booze and have it all to yourself all night. A few friends did finally appreciate the taste so now I leave this one in the home bar!
Awesome! Good call about bringing it to a party. Instant conversation piece that you'll get to drink the majority of because it'll be too shocking for Fernet virgins. Haha. Cheers!
Hi, i´m from argentina (sorry for my bad english) i will say that at first you drink this coctail , you will say that is syrup or something like that, at first i didnt like so much the fernet, but later yours palate customary, for the first people that taste de fernet like syrup i will recommend to put some 20% fernet and 80% coke (coca cola) and later when you pass it going up, and put 25% and 75%, later 30% and 70% or more. Regards from Argentina
YES, of all the not argentinian videos about fernet and coke that i saw, you are the only person (not argentinian) that pours it the right way, 2 pours and the coke straight out of the bottle to get the frothy head going.
Just bought a bottle of Fernet Branca last week, out of curiosity. UA-cam knows of course... Keep it coming DS, I've been watching you, one of the best Cocktail channels out there. Enjoying your piña colada recipe right now. Will try the F&C another night, I bet it cures cancer. Salud!
One of my favorite channels and one of my favorite drinks. The most important thing is to keep it 30-70. And also the cut plastic bottle drinking vessel ("el viajero"), but not everyone can handle that.
I'm Argentine and I've tried this drink a million times and hated it SO much. But then, last month I went back to the homeland and had it again because my cousins were doing the ol pass around plastic coke bottle with fernet, and I was hooked! I don't understand it. But now I love it. It took me years to love it (im 36) LOL :)
Maybe your palate changed. You can tolerate the bitterness now. Something like that. Now morph into an Italian and drink it straight like your grandparents did. Hahaha
Hi, im from argentina. We just use a glass full of ice, we add the fernet and then we top it up with coke. Some people use a 50/50 ratio but 30/70 is fine.
50/50 ??? para nada es esa la medida, ni el más borracho toma así. Se dicen que la medida es: 80 2 20 (80 fernet 2 hielos y 20 coca) comparto: para mi es 70/30 y mucho hielo. A lot of ice + 70% Branca (never Vittonne) 30% Coke (never Manaos)
I had the pleasure of visiting Argentina earlier this year. While there, I went to a traditional asado cooking class. At the end of the night we had some Fernet and Coke. My suggestion would be to play with the ratios for your individual taste. Our host suggested a 1:1 ratio and frankly that was perfect for me and most of the other guests. Also, you're right that you want a frothy head. It's the best tasting part! Light, airy mouth feel that's got just a light touch of mint to it. The bitterness isn't present there for some reason. Thanks for the video!
I come from the Argentinian background and this is the first I've heard of this drink; I must give it a try! Plus, the city of Córdoba was founded in the 1600s and the province where that city is located was named after it. 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷 😁😁😁😁😁
Oh yeah, well, think of it like mate. It's huge, big, bitter, acquired taste. It might not be your favorite at first. Also, if you have cousins or something who come visit from Argentina, have them bring you a bottle of the Argentinian Fernet. It's different than the one available in North America. Cheers!
Fernet Branca is usually sold in the major supermarkets of Southern California, as well as Argentinian meat markets/grocery stores. This beverage, as well Cinzano and Martini & Rossi vermouth, are very common in Argentinian households. And yes, Argentina(there is a sanity clause! 😄), I do drink mate! 😁😁😁😁😁 _lh3.googleusercontent.com/rWorH1rZioAHF1PjJn4g-T3S25k-3ocYk_ZAXMsdLVnnMN7qd7Jg_zAl3i3k-wI8ljumD4pAmg_
fernet also haves a really particular alcohol high, its very diferent to any alcohol high, pretty euforic to me. i like the first one 70/30 , like the cordobeses , ice is very important too, FB will melt your cubes before you know it, so its not a slow drinking cocktail, the optimal recipe its with a metal cup and ice, the more newbie, the more ice and coke.
I remember ordering a Cynar drink at a food bar that did excellent tastings (that I could persuade no-one to attend), sadly I was not ready for it and had to leave it be. Thanks for this video. One day I must try this.
I remember my first try of Fernet... I was maybe 15, at an Argentine asado. That was the first and last time a tried had Fernet, haha. I might buy myself a bottle now, though, since my tastes have definitely changed since then.
I love fernet with coke, but i dont really like coke, so i do it 50% and 50%. It's the first drink i made at the age of 16 (yeah, i know). My grandfather used to drink it with just soda when he was young. If you never tried it, start low, maybe 15%-85%, and then, go up.
I´m Argentinian and It is simpler than what is shown in the video, put some ice in a glass, 4 cubes are ok, add 1/4 (or even less if you are not familiarized with the taste) or 1/3 of fernet if you want it stronger (you dont need to take precise measurements this is up to individual taste), then fill with coke, and stir a little.
I’m in Italy now and I’m trying this right now..... it’s DISGUSTING straight and I was thinking how the hell can this work but with the coke it works! I can’t get Mexicoke in Europe very easily but it’s till quite nice! I’m working my way through your videos 😉
Fernet is definitely an acquired taste. Haha. Glad you got it to work for your tastes. You don't need to use Mexicoke in Europe if you don't want to. You just need Coke with real sugar. The Coke in the States uses corn syrup, but the Mexican version, which is widely available here uses sugar. Anyway, glad you liked the video. Cheers!
Tried it once, I bought a bottle in Italy. Didn't really like it unfortunately. I generally enjoy bitter drinks a lot like Campari and IPA's (If my parents had wine I had Crodino which a lot of people find bitter but is sweet like lemonade to me now). To me, Fernet tastes like Paradontax toothpaste. Maybe another time, in another cocktail.
Yeah, this is not usually love at first taste. And for me, it works best as a modifier in stirred drinks. Just enough to give the cocktail some unique funkiness to it, but not enough to overwhelm it. But this drink is usually the easiest to get someone into Fernet. It's Fernet training wheels.
I might try the Hanky Panky when I get the chance, only a few dashes of Fernet. (Recipe I found: 1 1/2 ounces gin 1 1/2 ounces sweet vermouth 2 dashes Fernet Branca)
Ive done similiar but with Unicum instead of Fernet. Think I need to try Fernet and eventually Riga Black Balsam, the holy trinity of this kind of bitters!
70/30 es la proporción amigo, 30 de fernet 70 coca por lo menos el primer vaso jajajaja después vas subiendo la proporción...Es ideal para hacer la digestión despues de un asadaso.
