I like how Zhongli heard he'd become the 78th director and basically said: "Aw hell nah, go get her back. I ain't doing this shit."
😐
he said "im already retired" lol
Lmao 😂
He dont want to fake his death for the second time bro, he's tired. 😭
Exactly!! Like, can't a bro just sit and enjoy opera in peace? 😭🍵
46:24 Those words are Hutao's constellations in Chinese. Hutao said 5 const, Zhongli said the 6th one, which allows Hutao to revive one time.
That's really cool.
That is amazing!
1:08:43 Flowers that bloom after Hu Tao's steps are called spider lilies. Especially in Japanese culture, they often symbolize funerals and/or death. A nice little detail, I must say.
i swear to god, a cutscene didn't have me this terrified since xiao's one in the chasm quest
Same! I was like "show me the Rex Lapis cubes now pleeeeease"
Now that you’re getting close to Natlan, I do want to say that there’s been a teleport waypoint unlocked there since Natlan came out. I hope you don’t use it. If you teleport to the closest Sumeru waypoint and walk over, there’s a rock structure with a path that leads to Natlan that has a really cool ‘first look’ kinda feel. Kinda like going to Sumeru through the Chasm tunnel.
Completely agree with this, I walked from the Sumeru one and it was beautiful
Yes agreed! I did the same on my first time journeying there!
Agree! I did that too because I didn't want to lose the feeling of "first look" immersion.
Agree! It's more scenic that way
This is the most I’ve heard Calvin cry hgjhgjhh
But, this year was quite interesting, as past 4 lantern rites to my recollection were more so purely about gathering for the celebration, and well celebrating, so it’s cool to see them experiment more so with the plot
Yeah this one was so story heavy! was amazing :)
I just love the relationship of Zhongli and Hu Tao so much. Zhongli lost so many friends and he knows that he will loose Hu Tao and Hu Tao just know that when the time comes you just have to accept death and go. I also like the symbolism in the scene on the bridge where Zhongli stands in the light and Hu Tao in the dark.
Zhongli even looked a bit worried in the cutscene. Most of the time he is very stoic and composed. He trust Hu Tao but he let his mask drop there just a bit.
I don't know what to say but your first Lantern Rite turned out to be the darkest one yet for this joyous festival 😭
It's always just been treasure hoarders causing problems, then turns to a fun and heartwarming reunion of friends 🥺💕
But now it really feels like the wheels of fate are starting to turn for every nation
//i truly enjoy every story flavor Hoyo cooks up 👏👏
I truly had my first Lantern Rite be one where 10 characters missed the final performance lol
@Roamerplays Omg you're right 😂
So many firsts in this Lantern Rite, and they're all sadddd 😭💔
The way Xiangling and Yun Jin practically made Hu Tao /promise/ to eat their new dish and watch the new performance tho.
That unspoken "come back alive" really hits hard 🥲
1:06:40 Interesting fact about these flowers. Since these scarlet flowers usually bloom near cemeteries around the autumnal equinox, they are described in Chinese and Japanese translations of the Lotus Sutra as ominous flowers that grow in Diyu (also known as Hell), or pinyin: Huángquán (traditional Chinese: 黃泉; simplified Chinese: 黄泉), and guide the dead into the next reincarnation
I was so excited to see you play this part!! Made me so emotional, I was sobbing. I really needed the epilogue after that, it was beautiful and some much needed closure. Can definitely understand that you weren't in the mood for the minigames.
This Lantern Rite is my favorite out of all of them so far, I think. They really did an amazing job including all these characters, fleshing out their bonds and still telling an engaging story.
I particularly enjoyed seeing how much Hu Tao trusts Zhongli, only really opening up to him about the seriousness of the situation and likewise how much faith Zhongli has in her. And we got so much of Yun Jin's beautiful singing! I love how much effort they put into the presentation, too!
this is the only one I have played but Its my favourite Quest overall :)
The game : CELEBRATE THE LANTERN RITE
Me : what do you mean celebrate the lantern rite ... i don't want to celebrate give me back Hu tao now
Also The game : cross over to the after life 💀💀💀
I was chat bombing my friend who already quit genshin "HU TAO IS DEAD!"
This lantern rite was really incredible. Thank you Calvin :)
Thank you for watching :)
If roamer crying to this wait till he get to natlan oh boy..
Uhh I generally don't cry but natlan was whole another level
This is the kind of reaction that I love to see from this amazing event. I saw a streamer played through this and they got angry instead because "we know Hoyo won't really kill her" as if that knowledge actually made the story suddenly become "bad". Pfff. Every day I thank the youtube channel blocker add on.
it is true that Genshin sometimes lacks actual consequences but a story doesn't automatically gets better with death and the conclusion of a character arc shouldn't be just death.
I remember people being angry when xiao didn't end up dying in the chasm quest. This is pretty similar and honestly I wouldn't bother listening to them because a beloved character's death happening in a limited event would be frankly terrible and would serve no purpose to the story. People act like death is the only way to make a good, tragic story, but what's more tragic about this story and the chasms is not whether or not hu tao or xiao actually die in the end but the character relationships, their relationship with death, what they can learn from living another day, etc. Though there are plenty of tragic deaths in genshin its not merely the death itself that make them tragic and I fear a lot of people don't understand that.
@@Dirtbike-k2x with Xiao it makes even less sense for him to die because his whole arc is realizing he is not just a weapon and can have a life and not just his duty.
If they ever kill any playable character in this game, it's gonna be at the war against Hp, or at the end of Teyvat chapter, it doesn't make sense killing anyone now, imo.
@@zillo1600I really agree with this, I wish there were consequences with our actions. I hope hoyo will do the concept of "fate worse than death" but then again this is a limited time event it'll be odd to kill her off. Overall I agree with this
what a rollercoaster that was! got on and was strapped against my will for twist and turns and dives into the deep depths! this may be the best lantern rite ever!
Happy lantern rite roamer, may you have an amzaing year
thank you! you too!
This lantern rite was probably the best one ever. all the people saying hu tao shouldve died completely missed the point, not surprising since people really dont like to read or pay attention lore much. without spoiling much ill just say they were showing us that there are ways to defy fate (major theme of the whole game) the rule of the leylines was that someone has to be erased from the leylines, the traveler chose to be that person but since there are no records of them in the leylines it means nothing will happen. if hu tao died and was erased from the leylines it would add nothing to the games lore, it would be such a bad writing lol
when you realize Hu Tao going around to all her friends was actually her saying her goodbyes because she fully expected to die that night.
I've been playing since the beginning and never had I been so nervous for a lantern rite quest. She's been my fav since she was first released. But the writing was so damn good and the ending was perfect. They freaking delivered 10/10 lantern rite!
That was such a poetic and beautiful story! The only thing that stopped me from full on panicking and start crying as well was that I'm 100% sure they would never kill one of the playable characters, but from the moment she started talking about her dad I was sure she was going to sacrifice herself, which made the whole fortune coin giving feel very bittersweet. The whole salvation scene was amazing, I love the traveler and Hu Tao's bond as well. I wish they made this a permanent story quest, it's so good and such an important story for her character.
The previous 1 of the 8 adepts who sacrificed was Lone Butterfly.... and Hutao's constellation is a '........'
Happy Lantern Rite! This was the best one yet in my opinion and i’m so happy that you got to experience it firsthand too!
It seems the main story of genshin is about to enter the climax. Since Fontaine's archon quest.
I'm so glad to start playing since genshin launched and I'm very excited because we are about to enter the last one of the seven countries.
I like the wonderful stories presented to us by genshin very much. This is why I love this game.❤
I too think this is the best quest we had so far and IT IS EVENT. Made me buy hu tao skin after this😂
I can't believe the day would come when I'd get spoiled by a Roamer video thumbnail but here we are
What does the thumbnail tell you? Like I am sorry if the Image is a spoiler but the event is now nearly a week out and the Image is out of context. If enough people think this is a spoiler but not the 180 others then I will change it.
I am asking people now if I should change it.
@@Roamerplays I'd say it's fine though, since yeah, it has been days since the quest was out.
Just my thoughts!
Yeah that is what I thought but I have no Issue changing it its just I don't think this would spoil me but I again if enough people thought it was bad I would change it.
@Roamerplays Dw, as you said it's prbly my fault I didn't play the event story sooner. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that you'd play the event stories as soon as they come out, but I've been going thru all sorts of health related stuff the past few weeks so I didn't really have the energy to do the story. I just finished playing the second part earlier when I saw the thumbnail, so I'm guessing something bad happens to Hu Tao? It's fine tho, I'll be back to watch the video after I'm done with playing the whole story
1:30:00 oh you F*****. That last song wasn't necessary... God I miss the old style of FF games.
In another news, the new Trails is almost here!
Great stuff Roamer! I love that you are enjoying it!
"This is my first Lantern Rite...and it's depressing" (me gives you a hug)
I'm glad you've watched the past lantern rite festivals. Everyone thinks this event should be fun, but this time they almost killed HuTao... It would be an unexpected surprise for you if your first and only lantern rite festival was about someone dying 😅
Yes, this one is different from the previous ones, but it's just as amazing! Thank you, this is the reaction that everyone has been waiting for!
Happy Lantern Rite, Calvin!✨️
Despite the circumstance those pony tail turbo blades look so cute :D
This gave me Depressing Flashbacks to HI3.
That game was so good.
-Life Blooms Like A Flower-
YAAYYY PART 3🎉🎉🎉
Honestly through all the foreboding signs when Hu Tao ran around to give out fortune coins to her friends i kept telling myself no, Zhongli won't let anything happen to his daughter, she'll be okay, hahah... I needed to convince myself to stop myself from worrying too much.
This is the 4th year of Genshin and our 4th Lantern Rite. In Chinese the number 4 represents death because it sounds similar. It's artist choice for them to talk about death during Lantern Rite, usually a very unlucky topic and even Hu Tao's release back then being so close to LNY back in 2021 caused many controversy because of her job and representation but I think this story is done so well. It also touches a lot upon remembering the deaths of loved ones while during celebratory times. Those flowers that appear as Hu Tao was walking in that place are spider lilies. They symbolize death in China.
It's the 5th Lantern Rite though
@@Alex_Deam You're right. I miscounted. I thought there would be a reason to stray from the usual happy tone for this year but there wasn't any.
This might be my favorite character story thus far. I knew they could not kill a character in a limited event, but it was still great. The cross-over scene, the music, the flowers at her feet, the traveler's hand... got me good:.) Such a beautiful event. Happy Lantern Rite!
The stars really aligned for your first limited event to be Lantern Rite like how it ran when you first began and this year's story has so many emotions.
First, Xiao tries to sacrifice himself in the Chasm. Then, Hutao did the same for Lantern Rite. I swear the third time a scenario requires a sacrifice, Zhongli will come down in his archon form in all his glory and then just grab their shoulder "My child of Liyue Harbour... YOU'RE GOING TO GIVE YOUR OLD MAN A HEART ATTACK!! Don't sacrifice yourself. Use the secret cheatcode that Traveller provides. Please, I just want to drink tea in my retirement." xD
First of all, I haven't even started the video yet, but from the title I can already tell that YOU Calvin, had the exact same reaction as me
I just want to say, that even tho I've been playing Genshin since launch, and even tho a part of my mind KNEW, it knew that they wouldn't kill a playable character in a limited quest, I STILL FREAKED THE HELL OUT, AND STARTED BAWLING. I know, I KNEW, but even so, all the build up, everything was done so well, that I legit feared that in that moment, I lost Hu Tao. That she was gone. I think I sat in shock with tears streaming down my eyes for like 2 entire minutes after the first cutscene. It was the Xiao scene all over again. I felt my heart drop.
And honestly. I don't care that people say that there aren't enough consequences (I hear, your opinion is valid, but god, do I just want to see other people who can immerse themselves in the story just like I do) because to me, the mere fact that Hu Tao was READY TO DIE there, is enough. Like. I'm sorry but this quest did so much justice to Hu Tao's character, I am in awe, and if anything were to happen to her, I think I might venture in the border myself just for the slim chance to save her
ALL THIS TO SAY, I cried so much, I loved this year's lantern rite (Not that the others were bad, I also cried on the last two ones, but this one is special) and just. All the character interactions were amazing, and I'm so glad you got to enjoy it with us, Calvin!!!! I'll probably add more to this after I've watched the video, SO I'M SO SO SORRY FOR MY RAMBLING, YOU CAN IGNORE THIS😭😭😭😭😭😭
6:09 I SAID THE SAME THING😭😭😭😭😭 the fact that she said that she wouldn't have time to celebrate afterwards just rang so many bells of allarm in my head, I WAS STRESSINGGGGGGG😭😭
Don't be sorry, and I won't ignore this! it was for sure a high emotion story and my favourite quest so far! I am glad I got to do with you guys too!
There's a deep reason why Hu Tao insists returning traveler 's fortune coin. This is a journey that she can only "give out" blessing to other people, she cannot "receive "anything from others. Otherwise, she will have pity, nostalgia, willing of staying in live. Which may cause she failed to save people again, like her father.
Happy lantern rite!
So happy u got to experience this!! By far the best lantern rite by far!!!
Especially so since hoyo actually isnt afraid to kill off playable characters, so the stress was THROUGH THE ROOF...
Oh btw, u should buy some lanterns from the toy shop! Limited time!! Very pretty~
Also, the next act has *heavy* natlan spoilers! Just beware!
Happy lantern rite!!!
Omg thanks for letting me know gonna buy them right now!
@Roamerplays you're welcome!! ✨
They refresh everyday as long as the lantern rite is ongoing!
This is the first time they've come back since the very first lantern rite too!
Have fun!!!
that lantern unlocking hydro traveller to strongest in games
Ah, Genshin "emotional damage" impact part 77, my favorite.
1:13:23 Mr.Roamer are you ok? 🥺
43:14 it literally says Traveler went to Natlan wow that's a big spoiler I can't believe that Traveler who travels to all nations went to Natlan to a dangerous places wow what an unpredictable surprise NO ONE would've saw that coming !!!!
You do not actually care about this.
It was more about some little specifics (that is already known and quite predictable, but ok) about some specific zone in Natlan, agree that this is not a big deal and skipping it more killed the moment rather than avoided a spoiler, that will be told in first 5 minutes of Natlan Archon quest, but Calvin wants to play that way, so ok... On the other hand those dialogues do not change for players who have not finished Natlan yet, so it may be a little bit weird for player who have not even been there to hear that he already finished it..... therefore those were not as much spoilers (they were not at all, but ok...) as they were foreshadowing to build suspense.
But anyway, not a big deal, it's more a funny moment to see what people consider as spoilers when developers themself don't and when it's given by the game itself, while actual spoilers from outside the game itself which were considered by developers as [contains Spoilers] were not considered as such by same people... funny, but ok....
Crying Calvin has arrived ♡♡♡ I was super relieved too with the fact that they didn't decide to kill Hu Tao off, Hoyoverse is notorious for sudden main character deaths. Not in Genshin yet thankfully, but I'm for one keeping my guard up. Nevertheless, the event is closing on it's end by now, so here's to future events ♡♡
This quest was beautifully done but I think the problem for me is, that Genshin has this rule that playable characters have to be alive.. and similar situtations happened before but no real consiquences happened ever.. so knowing that, this quest wasnt really that emotional for me because no real stakes. So every time someone looks like they are going to die, I know everything is going to be alright in the end. :/
YIPPEEE
1:07:01 happened to me too. Very Hutao🥹
Yeah nobody in Genshin ever dies. It's unfortunate and it makes you lose all tension when a characters life is in danger because you know they're not gonna die. I don't know why they don't wanna kill anyone. Maybe it's because it wouldn't make sense to play as a dead character? But you can play as a character right next to you so that's probably not it. I mean half of the playable honkai impact 3rd cast is dead so I don't get why they refuse to kill anyone
I have talked aboutt his before but I disagree tension is not just somebody dying IMO.
I didn't think the whole Hu Tao dying thing would affect you so much because i thought it was pretty obvious that they wouldn't kill of a playable character esepecially not in a time limited event.
But it is good that this had such a big impact (no pun intended) on you because a lot of people are upset about Genshins lack of consequences and death.
But i think it wasn't the point of the writers to make a fake death scene but show Hu Taos close relationship with death which is even part of her kit and show how close she is with a lot of people.
And i think it is foreshadowing for stuff with the traveler. what i am not sure yet but i think they did it this way for a reason and not just to show that the traveler is overpowered in the lore.
I talk about it afterwards but I say that they can have their cake and eat it too, the emotions of her just wanting to sacrifice herself is enough, the action of going through with it while also not having to pull the trigger on actually killing her. Edit: also I get lost in the story always too so even if there is something in my head saying they won't do this, I always get super into what is happening in front of me.
I don't really think that many are upset (I know Bran just released a video though). I've seen way more people talking positively about this quest.
Regardless, I think it is unfortunate that those people aren't able to suspend disbelief. I have played this game since day 1. I'm also aware that playable characters aren't going to die, but I guess I'm lucky in that I have the ability to fully immerse myself in the story and not think about outside factors.
I always try my best to just stay in the moment and in the game itself, not thinking about developer decisions. The way Roamer plays the game reminds me of the streamer MurderofBirds in that they both completely give themselves to the story when playing it. People can play however they want, but many people would enjoy things much more if they were able to do that, too.
@@Hy-BridAbroad i think it is not mainly because of this event but that genshin in general lacks consequences which i can agree with. I don't think Genshin need more death but some consequences would be appreciated. with that you create tension. If you always know everything is going to be alright no matter what it looses this tension. But i think it is coming. It feels like hoyo is prepping us for the future. I don't think we settle stuff with Celestia and the abyss without consequences.
@@Hy-BridAbroad I agree with you, I react to Genshin stories the same way.
Tbh I'm not sure that they will not do that in future, they did such things in their other games, so things may change for Genshin too and if does not happen before does not mean that this is a rule, but I understand where you are coming from and agree with most of what you said, on contrary, I think death of one of characters, if it's done right, may be a very interesting part of a story.
I also have seen a lot of people who are upset that Genshin is not killing characters, but such move is an easy, cheap way to create impact, so thanks god they do not move on that path, cos this can easily make people used to death of characters and it always kill the meaning of why things are happening, while in this quest they used this suspense to give Hu Tao more depth and give more context to how things in leylines work, when death of Hu Tao would devalue whole meaning they put into this story, like it happen in their other games already, when people focus on "Wow!" effect and lose the meaning....
This was a really good quest & event but...

That was the point. They're reiterating themes and strengthening the principles of Teyvat's laws and how they can be subverted. Parallels are an intentional narrative tool! You'll notice this a lot in events, stories with similar themes shown in different ways. It can act as foreshadowing, like the summer events do for their nations, or to reiterate themes and lore concepts to help drive them home. I personally prefer it this way; it makes the world of Teyvat feel very consistent and well-written in terms of the overall themes it's trying to explore.
Spoiler:
That's definetly the point of this event and seemingly 5.4. They are exploring the fallout of Capitano changing the rules of Natlans Ley Lines/Night Kingdom and connecting them to the rest of Teyvats.
I think this is the paradox that certain someone said to certain shade.
@sarena7106
Spoilers:
Capitano used the threat of a Paradox to force Ronovas hand. The Paradox being both of her rules contradicting eachother if Capitano "sacrificed" his life.
The Paradox never happened since Ronova made a choice to drop the Debt (death requirement)
Her choice essentially boils down to:
1.Drop the Curse of Immortality and kill Capitano
2. Drop the Debt and let him live and become the Ruler of the Ley Lines.
Ronova chooses to let him live, as the possibility that him being in charge of the Ley Lines isn't as bad for her, compared to removing the Curse of Immortality and getting in major trouble when the Heavenly Principles finally awaken.
The cause of the Ley Lines acting up in Liyue (and in Inazuma in 5.4) seems to be a ripple effect of Capitano basically plugging in Natlans Ley Lines into the rest of the worlds. And the massive rule changes he made to them.
This is just my theory but I think Capitanos actions are going to be what finally revives Durin in Mondstat (unintentionally). Every Nations Ley Lines are going haywire because of Capitano. The border of Life and Death in Liyue, memories being awoken in Inazuma, maybe in Mondstat it'll result in Durins revival.

No I disagree, they still can take this theme of the Ley Lines, and the theme between life and death, at least try to do something different with that, why even the whole Tao Dou tree burning in the cutscene similar to the cutscene in Natlan. Also some people said it shadowing the Archon quest, but that never happened before with Lantern Rite, only with Summer Event.
I love you played in Chinese, it felt more authentic, I hate you played in Chinese, I'm watching from phone and it's quite hard to read subtitles to understand dialogues....
Yayy im early, also, great that this is the first event you got to do. Its certainly memorable🥲. Lantern rites never miss
