I hate when "reviews" don't include price. That's part of the decision making process! All of these are of the exact ones shown even though I didn't put the whole exact name:
    So:
    Merrell Moab: $150ish
    Solomon X 4 Ultra: $175ish
    La Sprtiva Ultra Raptor: $150ish
Scarpa Zodiak: $250. Or $350 on REI. That's a SIGNIFICANT consideration! One HUNDRED dollars more!?
Solomon Quest 4: $230. For a boot. Just...smh. At least you have the prices now.

i worked as a lineman for a power company for 40+ years and myself and most of the guys went to wearing heavy duty hiking boots because the offered so much support for being on our feet all day and sometimes into the night. these type of boots were great for working on the ground, out of a lift truck and could also be used for pole climbing as long as they were the type with a good shank. regular work boots would just not hold up day in and day out. the boots were expensive but worth it and the company i worked for gave us a yearly boot allowance of $150 bucks.

I agree with your conclusions about the MOAB Merrell boots, love mine they actually feel like slippers they are that comfortable. I own also Salomon's Quest 4 GTX. but you need to tell them they are very narrow, so not too everyone's cup of tee! La Sportiva don't own any yet I might try those eventually. Scarpa Zodiac I found them too rigid, I returned them. Good video good information.

I have both the Salomon X Ultra 4 and the quest 4 GTX boots. I use my X ultras all the time for easy to moderate day hikes. The quests I would use only for super rocky trails and for hikes that are well over 10 miles. Using the quest for most easy to moderate day hikes would actually be overkill.

Merrill Moab are a good budget light duty option but, if you can afford it, Meindl is the best hiking or hunting boot option available.

I had my Keen Voyageur for many years. It's so comfortable and protecting my feet very well. I'm surprised that there is no Keen's in the list.

Love my Quest boots, though I don't use them often. Two or three times a year and usually only when there are shallow water crossings involved. They're going to dry rot before I wear them out. 😂 Salomon Speedcross are my go-to for most trails. They grip well on almost any surface and shed mud easily. Not a boot but still the perfect hiking footwear for peeps, like me, who don't like a zero drop shoe.

Salomons have great waterproof features but their contragrip outsoles are nonsense. They don’t offer grip at all on wet or slippery terrain. They weigh a ton and not worth the hype. Only suitable for flat surfaces. Merrells that have vibram mega grip soles are reliable however lack toe guards and little ankle support.

I've been wearing Merrell MOABs since the first version. Daily wear. No problems, but I would call them "light duty" hikers. I wouldn't want to carry a heavy pack over broken ground with them.
Great for walking the dogs, yard work, exercise, or whatever. Just not HD hikers.

Really? I’ve hiked the JMT in them and have used them for the last 10 years in the Sierras and So Ca mountains. Def Heavier duty boot than those fancy lightweight shoes like Altras

All my Gore Tex hiking boots have eventually leaked water. Fabric boots just aren't built to last like proper leather boots.

A stupid post. The best hiking boots are the ones that fit you. That’s it.

    • @racdude01

Yes fit is important but so is durability, traction, breathability/waterproof and this video gives good suggestions on boots that perform well and ppl can go try them and see if they r as comfortable for them as they are top performers

Merrell boots are absolute garbage. I've never had a pair last longer than a year and thats just normal wear- not even hiking. Do not buy them!
