Had a guy use this when I was trying dueling. He’s use Rivers until he started losing, then spammed this against me without a shield. I fought him multiple times and won once, but goddamn is this ash just unfair to fight

Can you parry it on the phase where the user appears in the end? I have no idea about the lingering wind slash tho. That staggering effect and wide area coverage is broken. It's like Malenia's dance for everyone's first-second-one hundreth time.
No. The issue is that it's chargeable.
There's no set timing and it's unreactable. The user can delay it as much or as little as they want.
You'd basically just be guessing and the price for a single miss is a vortex to death.

Blindspot on backhand blade too is also complete bs. People literally just stand and stare at you until you do something then blindspot. No idea why that skill has an attached to it

I think I prefer that old deathblight glitch to this bullshit lmao.
I found a few things to take note of when fighting someone abusing this AOW:
- They have to freecam the attack to get the most of it, otherwise they will only teleport right in front of you and you won't be hit by the secondary slashes. This makes side dodging a bit more reliable than other ways to defend against it.
- It actually has a pretty low Damage to FP ratio. Builds spamming this thing will run out of FP fairly quick. At 0 FP, this thing will still be able to teleport, but it will lose the secondary slashes. Might be worth punishing them the moment they run out of FP.
- Despite how it looks, it does NOT appear to have any i-frames, and can be punished by using attacks while they spam it. Lingering AoE spells/AoWs may help punish it a bit.
These tips may not make Swift Slash any less bullsh*t, but I hope they help people deal with it until nerfs come. It's true strength comes from how much it staggers players combined with how quickly it can be chained. The delayed hits also make it tough to dodge. I think those may be the best places to address it without ruining it in PvE.

I like how this move is basically waterfowl dance except borderline unreactable and 10x faster. who was the brain genius who decided that this thing needed the anime blade after images especially on an uncharged attack, are they high?
i mean, they already disappointed with the lack of player limit increase / TT rework, but this is the icing on the cake.
Thank god Steel hasnt found Golden Crux, that grab attack is a one shot unless your health pool is insane

The throwing shield is a hard counter it stops the dash and it can hit mid dash
How is the name of all that is fucking holy can people use this ash of war in pvp and feel good about themselves winning when they are using the most broken, brain-dead easy skill. It is actually mind-boggling how this got through testing during development. I seriously think that they completely forgot that pvp is a thing in the game.
same way people feel good by using mimic tear and azure comet among other cheese to beat PVE bosses, all elden ring is can be summed up with 1 word. Cheese.

even post nerf Swift Slash is absolutely maddening to play against and I still don't understand how you're supposed to counter it. I suppose you can parry but given how tight of a window you have to react, having to weapon swap, latency etc., it feels unreliable and seems silly that it's the only way to deal with the move. been doing a lot of Colosseum lately(the 1v1 mode where you get a flask each life and most kills at time wins. ordeal? not the duel setting), I'm by no means a pro but I do enjoy some competitive 1v1s. the other day I think I hard quit at least 5 matches in a row where the second I start winning the other person will swap to a blood infused backhand blade and spam swift slash. I really hope this AoW is balanced in a future patch, but at this point I'm so sick of playing against it that if they completely nerf it into the ground or outright delete it from the game I wouldn't even care. lol

Steel, there is probably a counter to this aow. Spinning gravity thrust - new ash, usable on colossal swords. Tests are required.
I managed to beat a guy using it in the arena, and it was solely because he was shit at the game. But in the hands of someone who knows his shit, that... thing is impossible to win against
Colosseum is full of people that are just pressing L2 with this f***ing thing. I have not yet bought the DLC so the first times I came across this thing, it was REALLY frustrating.

Was on the receiving end of this one just a couple hours ago, don't even remember how I killed that invader. Probably just hyper-armored through. If someone not completely braindead gets a hold of this ash, it's over. Even then, just spamming it is enough for a win.
Hyper armor, gravity spells, aoe burst attacks/spells - its crazy overpowerd for sure. And it deserves to be nerfed and will be in the future. But you can do alot to completely fuck it over - that being said - having things made specifically for that is a pain in the ass.
Boys the palm strike ash on martial arts weapons has infinite poise im thinking it could counter it. Also the sword from midras soul has enough poise after startup i think

I have clapped many invaders with this skill alone. It is quite satisfying. Lmao When I first got this skill and used it the first time, I already knew it was going to be absolutely cracked in PvP.
You might try to move around a little, instead of complaining, also you dodge it quite a few times, so it's just a matter of time to get used to dodging it. Never the less, you also can use bloodhoud step, quickstep, raptor of the mist, Vow of the imomitable and what not. Im also pretty sure that the aow doesn't hyper armor so highly likely can catch him with certain abilities. Just like the normal ash of back blades (blindspot), it says in the description that it finds the vulnerable spots of enemies and goes through guards. Therefore, shields are not optimal.

It's not too bad tbh, just nerf the hit-stun and fix the hit-box that appears like 6 feet in front of the character after dash

my biggest problem with the dlc weapons and ash of war is that all of them are better than most base game weapons / ash of war, essentially making some of the base game weapons/ash of war useless. From should have paid more attention to the balancing, not adding more busted weapons/ash of war

Just had my first rage quit and came here to see if it's even possible to beat only times I've actually had any success are side rolling into jump attack to trade damage and if they don't lock on it's not even possible because they pass so far through you.

I actualy seen someone running what seemed to be smith Script Claws. It was basically a mix of fan daggers and bestial sling, but on roids.

that's how they sell DLC in games nowadays. they start with overwhelming power creep to reel you in, pressure you to buy, then they pull the rug out from under you by releasing balance patches _after_ you've bought it. of course there's plausible deniability, but as others have noted, it's hard to imagine how you could overlook this. it's so obviously broken that the only explanations are 1) they accidentally shipped an earlier alpha build of the DLC, from before they fixed this AoW (doubtful), or 2) they intentionally released a bunch of power crept stuff, knowing it would drive sales, and didn't sweat it because they can always nerf it later to what it should have been in the first place. pretty disappointing to see from soft resort to that strategy, if it's really the case. it's the kind of thing wizards of the coast does with every other MTG expansion. they're the most cynical bastards ever.

Plus it's only been a couple days since it released, they need to iron out the kinks still now that it's released to the public and we can give feedback.

Dlc has me officially done with elden ring pvp. Which makes subsequent playthroughts kind of boring having to easter egg hunt dozens of scadutree fragments. Which makes me not want to play the game without cheat engine/save editors

Heads up I've been using this ash in coluessum duels with rot and have just been banned. Granted I had not died once and my items where spawned in by cheat engine "I had anti cheat turned off BTW when doing so." So yeah rip my invading days lmao.
