To counter that, high end optical mice that have sensors that go beyond the typical low DPI range that most budget optical mice use, have a feature called smoothing which is an ok fix, but it's not as good as just playing at a lower DPI. So really, DPI is completely based on your monitor resolution and in game sensitivity. What I never recommend though is upscaling your in-game sens to higher than 1 or 2 because then, you're pretty much doing the upscaling a 720P image to look like 1080P thing which makes it all blurry. If you hit the max DPI on your mouse and still need to change your sensitivity to higher than 1, your DPI is too high unless you have a shitty mouse or a 4k monitor.
What I wonder is why anyone would want to play shooters with super high DPI... I'd say the theoretical 18000 DPI that some mice give you are a bit... over the top... I myself stick to 500, it's working great. Edit: Also yes, I do know that people usually stick to 1200-1600. But Why the hell do companies go off and be like "OH YEAH THIS BOI CAN DO 4000 DPI! BUY IT NOW! CUZ MORE IS COOLER AND BETTER!"

Shape is more important than sensor. Laser and optical are basically identical as long as you confirm there's no acceleration. You dont need more than 800 dpi but high dpi + low sens could be good, no one truly knows yet.

Don't buy a laser mouse its lift off distance is too much . Laser mouse moves even if you keep mouse 2cm or 2.5 cm above the surface so it's very difficult to play games with it
