As a Software Engineer for over 22 years, I think that many younger aspiring SEs make the mistake to go to a place that is "cutting edge," but is not stable. You sometimes have to prioritize stability if you want a long career in Tech over working at the "cool place."
However, sometimes the advantage of being young ist that you dont need to priorize stability and you can have this rich experiences. I also had an internship at Meta, it ended last month and I didn't get converted, I felt lost after leaving the office on my last day at work, but two weeks later a recruiter from a different company reached out to me and now I just signed a contract for a new job, life can weird turns and I'm glad I got the opportunity to work at Meta and made unforgettable memories.
You enjoyed your time at Meta, learned a lot and made new friends. Also u get to put Meta on your resumé! So ofc you'll find a job easily after this. Enjoy the ride and keep up the grind
I've been watching this channel for a while even though I know nothing about computers and coding. It must sucks plenty fr that to happen to you, but at least you had a great summer and met a lot of new people, which to me it seems like not everything is lost. Gosh, this hits hard. I've been throught such situation in spring, when international company (all of them actually. hello from russia) froze hiring process right after my successful exam from internship to junior position, 1-1,5 more weeks and I'd have a job and possible relocation but BOOM and everything's gone. I'm a tech recruiter and love your channel. Sorry to hear about what happened to you, but it's sadly like this across the market right now. We just furloughed about 30% of our staff. Been down a similar road. Losing your job can be traumatic, scary, and/or heartbreaking. Believe it or not, you'll move on with time to something more enjoyable. The more you live in the past and wish for a different life the harder life becomes. Wish you best of luck wherever you go.
Keep up the hard work and thank you for sharing your story and experiences. It's not looking good for me, 27, and just starting to teach myself to code with my only work experience being in construction work and hoping I will be able to change career's. The recession is real, work has been slow, no call backs for any side jobs I apply to so money is just getting tighter and seeing interns and other youtubers losing their jobs or not being able to get one after their internships makes my odds look even more grim. But it's fun learning more everyday, being able to understand what I didn't before, being able to start writing my own code, seeing progress in myself and that's what we all need to focus on. Every small step forward counts.
When the scrubs get enough experience to be in a real job, it's not that easy to make them do what the main team doesn't want to do, so you get new ones
Needed to hear this. My Manager told me today although he wants to bring me back after my internship finishes this month, he can't gaurantee it anymore. He is going to break the news by the end of the week if my RO is approved. Was feeling kind of down because of the news but this video helped me keep my spiits up. Best of luck fellow interns, we'll get through this!
hey pan! i know this comment will get buried deep down... but i still wanted to tell you that you are one of the biggest inspiration for me on youtube. you have motivated me and guided me in someway or the other in my software dev career. you are a real gem. i just completed an internship at droom india and my 5th semester will start today. I will LeetCode and continue to support you and your channel. Thanks again MAN! keep it up!
My internship ended on July and I really feel ya, I've had so much fun, learned a lot and made many friends I'll cherish for the rest of my life. Life works in unexpected ways, I'm sure you'll land an amazing job with that resume of yours now!
So sorry to hear about there are greener pastures up ahead! I somehow secured a software engineering grad job straight out of university this year, I am truly grateful.
I'm in the process of starting college in hopes to get a job as a software engineer after graduation. Hope the job market bounces back by then. In the mean time best of luck to you.
You've been one of my motivators to keep practicing and putting my best foot forward. I'm glad you made it this far, and there's still more room for growth and improvement. Keep doing what you do Frying Pan! Lots of love from the Caribbean islands.
Hey, for whatever it's worth, your videos do inspire other people man. I'm also looking for a job or internship from 180-ing my life to different course. But I know we're all gonna make it brah. Best of luck on your next journey and I, or we all, will be waiting here.
Man this would must’ve been a tough video to put together. A lot of us are going through finding a job as juniors too in our own industry (mine being entertainment so that includes Meta, etc) so this is comforting to see I’m obviously not alone in this journey.
You are a very wonderful person. UA-cam has done a good job of suggesting your channel to me. Every time I'm tired of coding, I watch your videos. It makes me happy and inspired. You will definitely find a job soon. Good luck.
My condolences. It's never easy to be downsized like that, especially after you feel the success of a finished project. Just know that you're not alone and that you'll find new opportunities wherever you go. Also, don't torture yourself with "If only". Just try to learn from it and keep going.
Man I haven't found so much as an internship since I graduated over three years ago. If people of your callibar arent getting picked up right now, this isn't looking great for the rest of us. That said you'll be on your feet before the leaves change if you do choose, or you can wait it out with school, personal projects or hobbies till things warm up. Always feels awful when stuff like this happens but I don't think it will slow you down much if at all. You got this!
Keep your head up my dude. Times are very tough right now, but you'll always find your way. Life is gonna knock you down, but what matters most is how you pick yourself up and learn from the experience. You got this man! I don't know you personally, but after following you for awhile I can tell you're a good dude and will be successful in life. The only way to go is forward my guy.
i truly love ur videos ,u are older than me so u probably know what i'm gonna say,so this life is a matter of choices and each decision u took it makes u u have always to remmeber that what doesnt kill u makes u stronger thats why u should be like the phoenix who borns from his own ashes, and no matter what remember that yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift thats why we call it present so live each day as it was ur last, and finally when u fall it better to fall forward at least u can see what u are going to fall into and most importantly to get a closer step to success, wish u best of luck
I did my internship at Apple this spring. I did have the same feeling. I felt sad because the internship was done, but I didn't have any regrets to join Apple and work on a challengeable project with my team at Apple. I would tell myself that I am gonna go back to Apple one day after all it is an amazing company to work at.
Hey, dont be low, you got this! Tech is always going to hire later. There are so many other companies. ENJOY COLLEGE buddy!!!!! I am an engineer myself and one thing I always do is be "prepared" for anything and everything. Just keep practicing leetcode and system designs. When the day comes, you got this!! Great luck!
This video was like a younger version of *Techlead* . It's been a great journey, and love your vids man . And Pan you will get great opportunities ahead it's just the beginning. ( Maybe Techlead ) Anyways all the best for your future man . Keep grinding leetcode .
hey Pan, you did great and you'll do even better in the nearest future. don't be upset and remember you're the main character so the next arc will be even cooler. as a junior dev from Ukraine where there aren't many new projects nowadays, and companies are cutting the budget due to the war, I completely understand your frustration. I'm kinda scared I'll be looking for a new job soon too. best of luck and keep us updated :)
I always say: we cant change the situations, we can decide what we do with the situations we find. Think what you could do better helps, punishing yourself for not doing it better is filling your backpack with stones. Have a nice day!
I'm just starting out on my coding journey using free resources and the internet to self teach myself about coding. Things happens but I believe you will have doors of opportunity open up for you. I love your videos, you keep it up, don't give up, you got this, plus you made some new friends along the way. 👍
"There will always been unexpected things happen despite of hard work..." well said and that's true for everybody no matter who you are, where you are.
yoo! back to home, this means that you will do something greater, it was not meant for you, and so something unbelievable is yet to come. Keep your chin up and hope for better... It is not every time possible that something unbelievable happens so, it happens only a few times either positively or negatively you should be glad that you went through the rare things. And rare things are just valuable either they make your profit or loss.
I genuinely relate, workmates is like our second family so the feeling of separation hits different especially to those you have strong chemistry with,I also dream of being web developer,I hope you make it to the top and meet great people best of luck
Don’t give up bro, you have done much more than you think. You have encouraged lots of people around the world to start their programming journey by your UA-cam videos, and I’m one of them. Thanks for everything, let’s go to the next step
Hi :) just wanted to say you inspire me so much and I just started as a freshman in CS after this inspiration, keep your head up and I know good things are in store for you :)
Don't worry, there are many companies out there that would hire someone that had some experience in Facebook. And.. There's better life as a programmer, I work all days from my house, in the coach with my laptop over my balls, don't get me wrong, I work very hard but this way it's way less stressful, without having to interact with all this characters in person, can't imagine what it's like in an environment like facebook... Hope you find the right balance. 😇 Personal advice, I just ignore job offers that ask me to solve a leet code question, even worse live coding interviews with leet code questions that's red flag... Spend that time doing real life projects with the techs you like, good people will ask you questions related to real world problems... Even more they will try to understand if you are able to work with their product and will ask to solve problems related to that particular product.
Dude, it is just a beginning. There will be plenty of opportunities for you and honestly working for facebook/coinbase right now may not be the best option. Maybe go for a startup company in the early stage of your career and get as much experience as you can. If you start in one of the biggest tech companies, most likely you will not be exposed as much in the beginning as those important tasks are reserved to the experienced folks.
So true! My husband has worked for a handful of companies. The biggest one seemed like a good place but behind the scenes it was a programmer’s nightmare. He also worked for a start up (until it was bought by another company). The start up gave him just enough experience to springboard into a job that matches his 15+ years experience and unique personality flawlessly.
You're not the only one, I got my Google SWE rescinded, I passed all rounds including team matching and hiring committee, they just didn't have enough headcount.
Needed this video. Just finished my first mid sized project at this new company I joined 2 months back. It's a startup so I was anxious with the speed after having moved from a big tech after 2 years. I was always scared of getting PIPed lmao, but then I tell myself it's just 2 months
Don’t worry Pan, you’re skilled enough to find something that will make you equally happy or even better. People like you are highly sought after in IT. I think Meta missed out on a talented and motivated professional with lots of potential.
I've watched your videos for awhile and seeing you get into Coinbase made me also want to get in, especially after seeing your day in the life there. I made it my goal to get an intern offer and I ended up getting one exactly around the whole rescinding fiasco, thankfully the intern offers were safe, but you were always a huge aspiration! I start in like a week or something and it kinda sucks not knowing the return offer situation. A lot of your viewers look up to you so you gotta show em a little bit of volatile economic conditions never hurt no one, this is just your start frfr
I graduated during the early years of the Great Recession, be thankful you don’t have to consider changing fields…keep your head up and move forward, I’m currently a principal swe and grinded endlessly to get here. In the end it’s not about the company or title but about enjoying the work and people you work with that matters most.
honestly bro this must be a sad video but it was actually motivational and im really jealous of u and ur frnds having such a nice like minded ppl around is realllly grttttt hoping to meet u in future ps: im a computer student but studying in high school🤣🤣🤣
That really really sucks bro, but you did your best and unfortunately this crappy situation was just out of your control... You'll definitely bounce back better and stronger than before
Awesome video. And I’m glad you had a good time in your internship with other great interns. It’s alright if you don’t get to come back, what matters is that you learned and met good people. These moments will happen all throughout our lives and we just have to enjoy them and hold onto them while they last!!
Ahhhh so relatable, thanks for making this Pan! I can feel the pain, it’s truly because of outside circumstances though. We got this. - fellow CS rising senior in college
Hey Pan. Now, aside from losing your job at the big company, you’re still very young and you have much better opportunities ahead of you. You can be really happy that you’ve collected unforgettable memories this summer and made new friends. You’ve built a youtube community and you’re always getting a lot of support. You really have to appreciate life. You’re a good programmer, it’s not your fault. I understand you, and I hope you’re feeling better already! Don’t forget that sometimes there are much more important things in life. We love you. Stay focused!
Bro ur so smart, dont beat urself up. Im also trying to move from mtl to the states. In fact, me and my friend got job offer last year sold all our stuff and moved to dallas for junior java jobs only to later find out that our cegep dec was not valid to get a working visa…so we had to pack up all our stuff again to move back here. It really sucked at first but now im a few month away from getting my bachelor trying again…i dont know if ur gonna be forced to move back to canada but ur journey really is realise issues that i might have not thought of..so thank you and ur for sure gonna get another fire job

I'm rooting for you, man. You got it!! I hope all of us coders to get what we hope and desire at some point in our lives
hey pan! i know this comment will get buried deep down... but i still wanted to tell you that you are one of the biggest inspiration for me on youtube. you have motivated me and guided me in someway or the other in my software dev career. you are a real gem. i just completed an internship at droom india and my 5th semester will start today. I will LeetCode and continue to support you and your channel.
Thanks again MAN!
keep it up!
Appreciate it, u got this 👊
@@FryingPan Thank you! All the best!
In the mean time best of luck to you.
hey thomas, im doing the same well i hope too, do u mind sending ur insta id like to chat to a person in mu similar to position :)
same
You've been one of my motivators to keep practicing and putting my best foot forward. I'm glad you made it this far, and there's still more room for growth and improvement. Keep doing what you do Frying Pan! Lots of love from the Caribbean islands.
I see myself in you about 5 years ago. But now everything got better. Keep yourself focus and keep coding. Also great content, keep up the good work.
Such a great watch. Editing is 👍🏼. Sounds like a great summer at Meta 🌎. Look forward to your next content.
I feel you, bro. I, myself too, walked in your shoe in this kind of situation before but with strong determination, this is just temporary set back.
The only way to go is forward my guy.
i truly love ur videos ,u are older than me so u probably know what i'm gonna say,so this life is a matter of choices and each decision u took it makes u
u have always to remmeber that what doesnt kill u makes u stronger thats why u should be like the phoenix who borns from his own ashes, and no matter what remember that yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift thats why we call it present so live each day as it was ur last, and finally when u fall it better to fall forward at least u can see what u are going to fall into and most importantly to get a closer step to success, wish u best of luck
I did my internship at Apple this spring. I did have the same feeling. I felt sad because the internship was done, but I didn't have any regrets to join Apple and work on a challengeable project with my team at Apple. I would tell myself that I am gonna go back to Apple one day after all it is an amazing company to work at.
You'll go on to do keep doing great things Pan! Looks like you had a great summer and it was fun seeing it through the video
( Maybe Techlead )
Anyways all the best for your future man .
Dude this really sucks but its not your fault and you'll push through it
This is just the start my son, there will be much more to come
またお会いしましょう
my condolences.
i think u should take the 20$/h janitor job for now, seems legit dude
Don’t give up bro, you have done much more than you think. You have encouraged lots of people around the world to start their programming journey by your UA-cam videos, and I’m one of them. Thanks for everything, let’s go to the next step
Hi :) just wanted to say you inspire me so much and I just started as a freshman in CS after this inspiration, keep your head up and I know good things are in store for you :)
Bro, I'm crying. The song perfectly fit the whole goodbye vibe. Its sad to lose your friends and pursue a new place. 😢
Personal advice, I just ignore job offers that ask me to solve a leet code question, even worse live coding interviews with leet code questions that's red flag... Spend that time doing real life projects with the techs you like, good people will ask you questions related to real world problems... Even more they will try to understand if you are able to work with their product and will ask to solve problems related to that particular product.
tough times make people stronger , it's another level-up process bro. best of luck for all of us.
You will make it all through this mate! 加油!
We are here after you got the job. Congrats bro
Good luck bro. We can only hope it gets a lot better from here on out. Keep up the amazing work.
as a another meta intern rising senior that just finished yesterday, thanks for the vid bro :) it really hit some soft spots lmao
Time to return to Blindr... Please apply again and show that recruiter all that you learned in as an intern.
Endure, persevere, and keep moving forward
Bro I've been watching you for a while and you showed me to continue my joy to major into computer science. I believe in you.
Best of luck for whatever you do Pan!
YOURE DOING SO WELL PANPAN and im extremely proud of you : )
This looks fun and you enjoyed ur time in meta🥺experience matter and u got friends so it's all good ig, this journey will pass
You'll definitely bounce back better and stronger than before
you got this man!!! keep pushing.
Awesome video. And I’m glad you had a good time in your internship with other great interns. It’s alright if you don’t get to come back, what matters is that you learned and met good people. These moments will happen all throughout our lives and we just have to enjoy them and hold onto them while they last!!
You are not the problem! Keep up the good work.
Hope you had a great time at Meta! I wish i could get there one day. Cheers from Argentina!
Don't lose heart. Atleast you got to work with meta. As a non Fang software dev am inspired by your vids and trying hard to crack faang.
Your journey so far is just ❤️
Don't worry bro. You're gonna find something much better. Hang in there !
Next up : Lost my kids, my wife over a good career at meta
Don't lose hope we love you bro

3:26 After you said "Yo Sean!" I immediately replied "You Mr. Kingston!" and my girl started singing "Dutty Dutty Dutty Love!" 😅
Hope things go well for you. God loves us and God Bless! Take care Mr. Pan.
