Simple. Cuz back then even though there was a big underground fan base, they weren't taken seriously by anyone outside of the underground. People today dont get how different it was back then and how different the country and world was back then. Most of these bands were very poor and thats why you'd be lucky to get maybe a demo or one 7" and that was it. Plus alot of those bands weren't meant to be around very long, lived in areas where there was maybe 20 people at shows, or were total fuckups that couldnt get their shit together. Live shows were usually more drunk and drugged out than in the studio and the sound was terrible depending on where you were.
