I was born and raised in Miami. Although I'm not Cuban (sadly) I was raised in that culture and when I moved out of the state of Florida I found myself missing my culture. These videos give me life!! I love cooking these Cuban dishes and my coworkers love the taste of my food. You are so lucky to have your grandmother around. God Bless you & your family! Keep making videos pleeeeeease!
If you were raised in Miami your Cuban by default! I was born and raised in Miami too. I actually still live here but more south. I live in homestead/ Florida city if you remember. Still part of the Miami dade county but now my taste pellet is more Caribbean because down south it’s still Cuban but more Haitian and jamaican
I love watching your grandmother cook. Reminds me of my mom. I’m Cuban born raised in Westchester in Miami. That’s how I cook, I don’t measure anything lol.
May I just say thank you thank you for your time to record and edit your grandma’s recipe for carne con papa! It’s delicious, I love it, I love the options and secret tips 🥰 thank you again!!!
Just came across your page! I am a Miami girl but I am not Cuban, but LOVE Cuban food. I made this and came out delish! And your grandma is the cutest person ever! Typical Cuban abuela 🥰
Omg I was born in the US to Cuban parents and I’m so happy I found your channel. Being away from my family (I’m working in another state) has been hard so I’m always looking for awesome channels that love cooking Cuban good. So glad I found you.
Hey Julie! I’m so happy you found us too! Hopefully these recipes will bring back a taste of home. I loved away from my family for a few years as well and cooking Cuban food was my way of keeping them close to me!
Thank you for making these videos with your abuela! I am latina but not cuban- but as fate would have it, i moved to miami and married a cuban man who LOVES his cuban food... only downfall, i dont know how to make Cuban food!!! You have totally saved me! His mom passed away and never wrote down any recipes but bc of your videos I have been able to recreate them for him and our kids. Thank you so much! God bless your abuela, she seems like an awesome one!
First time watching one of your videos. Your grandma's transparency is what made me subscribe and the fact you are so proud of your heritage. Good core values.
Felicidades a tu abuela, me encanta como hace todas las delicias cubanas, soy colombiana pero adoro la comida de ustedes, tu abuela es muy simpática, gracias por sus recetas, un abrazo.
New sub here. Your grandma is a hoot, she's so sweet and funny. Her Cuban food is authentic and looks so good, I can smell it from here, almost. You're lucky to have her around. I'm Cuban, and cook everything but like to get new ideas, and techniques. Watching these videos make me hungry! Tfs her and her recipes with us.
OMG! I love your Grandma's cooking! You guys rock! Please continue making and filming your delicious Cuban food...I'm also part Cuban part Dominican...Love you guys!!!
My abuela always says ponlo un pocito of every ingredient!!! This is the closest to hers I've found!! We made it today y boom!! Salió perfecto!! Thank you Sam!
Aww Put a cigarrette in her hand and a little bit more make up and she would remind me of my Million shares as anything's be old Cuban Grandmother. This is one of my new favorite channels!
My mother and my grandmother would always make it now I wanna make it the only thing is I’m Cuban and my wife is American so I keep watching this video and others to learn
Hi there :) you can find more videos of Abuela and I in my “cooking Cuban” section of my page. We will be making more videos for sure! Thanks for watching :)
Hello. I am a new subbie. I am related to cubans by marriage. :) I love your culture and food. I will be trying all of the recipes you posted. :) Your abuela is so beautiful. :) Thanks so much for sharing.
So happy Cooking Cuban is back. I love your Abuela's recipes. Love your videos. Thanks for posting and keep them coming, especially the cooking ones. Side note, I made her bunuelos for the last family get together, they killed. Thanks again.
Girl your video make me homesick I'm born in Miami raised by Cuban grandma so I know my shit lol god bless you and your family but no longer live in Miami
Thank you for las bendiciones! Same to you...I hope that wherever you are you are making cuban food and feeding people with these delicious dishes from our culture :)
We just got an 8qt Instant Pot (pressure cooker) - I am Cuban born in Miami and have been tweaking Our recipes for the past 30 years ( omgsh did I just say 30?? I feel old when I say that. But the 80's was just yesterday wasn't it? 😂 ) Anyway- I haven't made Carne con papas in years because my old stove top pressure cooker broke and I never replaced it. I tried it the old way but just couldn't get the softness and flavor I got with the p.c. And the crockpot would dry the meat like if it was boiled to death! Now you and your abuelita have inspired me to give it a go again. I was wondering if you or she could do this again using a new instant pot where you can do all the stove top prep right in the Instant Pot on the sauté setting? I also cook for lots of people since we are a family of 7-8 depending on who is home. Thanks for doing this. I love your reactions when you were eating. Reminds me of typical friends when I lived in Miami a long, long time ago. ( I live in gringolandia now! 😂 ) Oh and your mom and your abuela look so much alike! Same beautiful smile. Ciao
Hey Helena! Instead of using the sauté setting. I suggest you do the stove top prep in a separate pan on the stove. The sofrito doesn't take too long and it will be easier than trying to do it on in the instant pot! Hope all is well in gringolandia! Haha. Let me know what your friends and family think of the dish!
The iron pot is called a caldero. That carne con papas came out beautiful. I like it better with maduros rather than tostones though. I was laughing your entire video because your grandmother is so spirited. She reminds me of the people in my family.
What did she have in her pot before she put in the diced onions she cut up were those tomatoes? And did she Cook the meat a bit Bedford mixing it in the sofrito?
It's tomatoes! She had some that she didn't want to go to waste and she added them to her sofrito. Totally optional. No need to cook the meat before mixing it in the sofrito, the pressure cooker will do all the work!
Im not cuban I'm mexican I can't cook but I'm learning I would like to learn to cook other foods and my own food you should make more cooking food videos I like your videos
Can you please ask your grandma to make a video of how to make pata de puerco con garbanzos 😋🤤🤤 that is my ultimate favorite dish, can’t seem to find one please and thank you 🥰 bendiciones 💗🙏🏼
She said don't be so lazy get your arms into it and do it the old way because it come out great what's up with that that's great you go abuela get your cookie and that's what's up my abuela and she's my great abuela we learn greatness from them and you
La comida de Mima siempre es la comida mas ricaa, Jaja! Thank you for this video. I've been backpacking and I have a chance to cook soon for a friend. Definitely making this. Gracias!
Hey Sam, this looks awesome. I am going to make it using a regular pot. I know you said to cook it for an hour. Should I cover it while cooking? Also, at low or medium heat? Thank you!
Hey Angela! Yes, cover it and leave it on medium low heat for about an hour. Every once in a while, stir up the pot so that nothing sticks to the bottom!
Hey Mark, thanks for watching! I can't give you exact measurements unfortunately. Cooking is more of a feeling in our family. I really don't know measurements! Many people have tried the recipes based off my videos and I've had excellent feedback, so I suggest trying to cook these dishes simply based off the video and your inner chef. If I had measurements, I'd give them to you, but unfortunately we don't cook that way in my family
Hey Stephanie! Here is a link to our cuban breaded steak recipe ua-cam.com/video/AtpybQWA32g/v-deo.html - I'll add regular steak to air upcoming recipes so stay tuned!
Hi Sam! I'm making this tonight. I noticed though, right before your abuelita adds in the onions, there's something else in the caldera. Are those tomato's?
Hey Alena! Good eye! Yes, she had tossed some tomatoes in there from a different recipe she was doing that didn’t require all of them. They just added to the sofrito, but are not necessary for the recipe. She just had them so she tossed them in there for them not to go to waste :) how did your carne con papa turn out?
SamazingTravels...It turned out INCREDIBLE!!! I'm Cuban and grew up in SF, but unfortunately my abuela passed away before I was old enough to cherish learning these. My mom actually said that my abuela would make it for her when she was a kid. So she's coming over for lunch today. Haha! I did actually end up adding in a seeded and diced tomato just because I thought it was a little secret she didn't want you putting in the video. 😉 Haha! I also make your abuelas arroz con pollo, which is also phenomenal by the way! I have made it several times and it has now become a household favorite. ❤️
So incredibly happy to hear that it turned out well! Sometimes Abuela does add in some extra stuff into her recipes, that’s how she makes t her own...but she doesn’t think it should be a secret! She loves cooking and to share it with everyone, so we won’t hold anything back! Have a great time with your mom at lunch 😊
Great recipe but just a question is there some recipe for making your own soffrito in terms of spices to add? Or is it just chopped tomato, peppers and onions in tomato sauce?
Ok good to know, thanks for the reply. Will give it a shot but if I don't have a pressure cooker, how long do you recommend cooking it on the stove for on simmering heat? Will let you know how it turns out, cheers from F1J1.
So I am Cuban and cook Carne Con papas all the time, the recipe is basic, sear the meat first with garlic and olive oil, then de glaze with red wine, after throw in peppers and onions and allow to also sear. Once seared you add the sauce and beef stock! Simmer for about 30-1 hr until meat is close to tender meaning squishy but still firm. Then add the potatoes, more stock if needed and cover for 30 mins. Cubans DO NOT USE SOY SAUCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
En ingles se le llama "dutch oven"...y si es mas alto y profundo, entonces se le llama "stock pot". Hoy encontre su canal por primera vez y me parecio muy autentico en cuanto a recetas y su abuelita es muy linda y simpatica. Gracias mil!
Yes, tomatoes! Abuela just happened to have some leftover tomatoes and she didn't want to waste them so she added it to the pot as part of her sofrito (since sofrito uses tomato puree, this works!). It's just by chance she threw them in there, but you can too if you like!
I was born and raised in Miami. Although I'm not Cuban (sadly) I was raised in that culture and when I moved out of the state of Florida I found myself missing my culture. These videos give me life!!

Hi Fortunada! It’s time to get cooking then ;)
That looks soo darn good I’m making this for sure as soon as I buy everything.
seanviv2 Let me know how it’s turns out!
The iron pot is called a caldero. That carne con papas came out beautiful. I like it better with maduros rather than tostones though. I was laughing your entire video because your grandmother is so spirited. She reminds me of the people in my family.
I love maduros as well! Depends what I'm in the mood for sometimes. I sure you get it! Lol. Abuela is truly a riot, she's always making me laugh :)
What did she have in her pot before she put in the diced onions she cut up were those tomatoes? And did she Cook the meat a bit Bedford mixing it in the sofrito?
I am wondering the same thing… not sure if it’s tomatoes or red peppers 😕
It's tomatoes! She had some that she didn't want to go to waste and she added them to her sofrito. Totally optional. No need to cook the meat before mixing it in the sofrito, the pressure cooker will do all the work!
@@SamazingTravels thank you ❤️

Well, that's super cool! Cultures combine sometimes :)
HI There. Love your Grandma's cooking vids. Where do you get that Molinera sofrito? I live in Miami and it's not at my Publix. Thanks.
Tom Farmer if you’re in Miami, it should be! But if you can’t find it there, you’ll definitely find it at Sedanos :)
I love her recipes! I have made Piccadillo in the past but it always comes out horrible. :( I would love for her to teach me how to do it correctly.
Juanita G - I’ve had a few people ask for the picadillo recipe, so expect it!
is it possible to get exact measurements of ingredients needed. Thanks.
What's in the iron pot before putting in the onions?
Cubangrl 1 ...its diced tomatoes! Abuela had some left over and she just used them as part of the sofrito. Totally optional :)
Oh one last request please can Abuela make Congris PLEASE!!!

What was in the Caldero before she put in the onions?
pdeltoro72 some leftover hopped tomatoes she had! Gotta use it all up and bit anything go to waste!
SamazingTravels yes I navigated down and found the same question and reply. Thanks, came out delicious!
Hi Sam! I'm making this tonight. I noticed though, right before your abuelita adds in the onions, there's something else in the caldera. Are those tomato's?

How does she make the congri?
Jennifer Diaz we are planning on releasing that video shortly! Stay tuned Jennifer...and thanks for watching!
SamazingTravels oh my god! Yay! I love your channel!
Great recipe but just a question is there some recipe for making your own soffrito in terms of spices to add? Or is it just chopped tomato, peppers and onions in tomato sauce?
Chopped tomato, bell peppers, onions, garlic a bit of lime juice and a bit of tomato sauce!
Ok good to know, thanks for the reply. Will give it a shot but if I don't have a pressure cooker, how long do you recommend cooking it on the stove for on simmering heat? Will let you know how it turns out, cheers from F1J1.
I recommend to simmer it for about an hour to 90 minutes!
Niceee
Can you publish the amount of carne y cuantas papas?
We don't use measurements much when we cook. It's a cooking with feeling kind of thing. I know its not for everyone, but try it!
Nice although Pressure cooker kills ingredients benefit due to high heat.
Cumin, Oregano, sugar, Salt , Pepper, Bay Leaf is all the seasonings
Its best in the pressure cooker.
MARLEN CRUZ it’s definitely the best way to soften the meat!

When she adds the onions in the pot… what is the red thing in there already? Tomatoes? Red peppers?
Yes, tomatoes! Abuela just happened to have some leftover tomatoes and she didn't want to waste them so she added it to the pot as part of her sofrito (since sofrito uses tomato puree, this works!). It's just by chance she threw them in there, but you can too if you like!
