Probably one of my favorite moments in the game too. It's rare to see Kratos display emotion, but if you listen to the tone of his voice you can tell he's mad.
@Rýgon | 希亜万壱 Chiming in a year later to say you're right, but it goes deeper than that. Kvar effectively ruined Kratos and Anna's lives after they got together. He was the leader of the Angelus project, of which Anna was the main subject and was undoubtedly suffering horribly at Kvar's hands at the human ranch. He relentlessly pursued them for years after she and Kratos escaped with the exsphere, and when Kvar finally managed to track them down, he removed Anna's exsphere, making her go insane and attack their 3-year-old son, ultimately forcing Kratos to kill his own wife to protect his son, only to have Lloyd fall off a CLIFF to his supposed death. According to the Wiki, Yuan even approaches Kratos later in the timeline (before the game takes place) to kill him in an attempt to release Origin's seal, but realizes that after the loss of Anna and Lloyd, Kratos is already "dead inside" and can't bring himself to do it because the poor guy is suffering enough. And THEN, after realizing his son is alive and finally reuniting with him 15 years later, traveling and bonding with him, Kratos witnesses Kvar (in the case of the anime anyway) about to murder his son... AGAIN. So yeah... Kratos has a bit of a grudge against Kvar, to say the least.
Absolutely. Every time. Gotta be those 3. The three who have the most personal reason for going after Kvar. Just like why Lloyd and Genis are always on my team for the Forcystus fight.
@@pele914 And the Kvar fight can *also* be a pain with that team if you haven't been keeping up with Kratos' magic skills, since you will lack healing and elemental attacks. But it is just more satisfying, so i think it is worth the annoyance.
it made this so much more meaningful and satisfying when you learn later on about WHY Kratos killed Kvar although I liked the game's version better because Llyod stabbed him first and Kratos followed afterwards whereas here only Kratos got to do the honors
Also, Kratos didn't stop with just a stab. No, he did a follow up with a slash across the chest before swinging the sword down on him to finish the job.

these will be spoilers but as I said they happen in the same world, Phantasia happens many thousand years after the worlds of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla are merged again, the world of Derris Kharlan also is here and there and is featured in the game's story. the big tree that Lloyd planted at the end of Symphonia, that was supposed to be the world's new main source of Mana, inhabited by the spirit Martel, exists in Phantasia and is close to withering. Both games also feature elves, half elves and ninja village (both Sheena's and Suzu's last name is Fujibayashi). I haven't actually played Phantasia myself but there is a chance that some locations are also one and the same, for example the Treant forest in Phantasia is supposedly the same location as the Gaoracchia forest in Tethe'alla in Symphonia, there is also an Ymir forest in both games
@@Ch88246 adding onto miyotan's reply, DotNW's map is basically Phantasia's map just with minor geological differences due to thousands of years passing by. Ymir Forest is also in the same place. DotNW also ties Phantasia and Symphonia by going into detail on how life is able to survive without the tree (which leads into Phantasia's plot where the tree dies but life still lives on, just that magic is gone since the tree is what gives spirits and magic their purpose) but Derris Kharlan's wasn't able to, which is why Dhaos's original plan was to go to Aselia for a mana seed to revive Derris Kharlan, but that ultimately failed due to the humans and the mana cannon and all.
The animation might speed through some things, but damn if it isn't one of my favorite anime's to watch. I wish I could buy it physically so I don't have to hunt it down online everytime I feel like rewatching it lol
That Kvar bastard deserved a hell lot worse than a stab to the heart, It's way too good for him. He's so despicable that it'd be way more satisfying if Kratos or Lloyd planted an exsphere on him and after hurting Kvar enough, ripped it off to give him a taste of his own medicine; making his outsides match his outsides like Rodyle. Once beat his soul is trapped in the Exsphere and Lloyd rubs it in by planing Kvar's exsphere over his mom's grave. Kvar has no mouth and he wishes he could scream. In this ova Lloyd deserved a good stab at Kvar, which he didn't. Feels so anti-climatic. Hell all four of Symphonia's a-hole bad guys (Kvar, Rodyle, Forcystus and Vharley) get way too easy deaths when they deserved to get imprisoned in exspheres like they did their innocent victims, yet the writer's didn't give a damn about their audience catharsis. I felt dehumanized as the author of First Blood commented watching Rambo 5.
Oh god I heard the Japanese voice actor and was like ‘No way…Hasegawa from Gintama? Oh god idk if that makes his character even better or not lmao’ (Yes I know the voice actor does a ton of voices but if it was so recognizable that I felt like I was hearing a different character I can’t help but draw similarities to the two :P)
Was that in game or an animated scene, long time since I played the game, because I can't see it being that brutal in game with the limited character models.
I really wish the voice direction was better in the game. Kratos stays so calm through the whole game, and during this moment, you can hear what sounds like a bit of emotion break the surface, but it would have been nice to have a "Woah, why is he so mad? And at this guy, specifically?". Would have loved to see more anger from him, especially to the face of somebody who made light of something that irreversibly altered his life and took him away from his son.
Would've been way more satisfying if Kvar escaped to fight another round and on next round the heroes planted an empty exsphere on him and ripped it off after hurting him good enough. They'd turn him into a monster, which he truly is and give him a more humiliating beatdown. Best part, his rotten excuse of a soul is trapped in the exsphere and has his defeat rubbed in by Lloyd placing it over Anna's grave knowing she kickstarted the domino's leading to his and his organization's downfall. Kvar has no mouth and he must scream. Seriously Kvar's actions are among the biggest impact on the plot. He created Lloyd's exsphere, forced Kratos to mercy-kill his wife. Kvar deserved a bigger role as Kratos and Lloyd's arch nemesis other than a foreshadowing plot-device. Among noticeable plot holes, my biggesty problem is that Symphonia's most despicable villains (Forcystus, Kvar, Rodyle and Vharley) get way too humane and merciful comeuppances cause the writers got lazy and out of touch with the player's emotions and went the tasteless easy wrap-up cookie cutter route of vengeance.

Maybe to show more of how he's coping with the thought of losing his friend as they and the group are on the World Regeneration journey. Maybe more so than in the game.
think of all the times that you were healed and the life bottles that were used on you during your first playthrough as Lloyd. I guess that it was the way to put "that" on the animation haha xd
I thought kvar died in the first one? Wish the sequel was on steam, Kvar was honestly the worst enemy I've seen so far on hard I hated that battle lightning element everywhere was not easy.
The look in Kratos' eyes says it all.
"I should've killed you a loooooooooooooooong time ago..."
Probably one of my favorite moments in the game too. It's rare to see Kratos display emotion, but if you listen to the tone of his voice you can tell he's mad.

Kvar knew that. Kratos was just going rogue against the ranch partially to avoid suspicion and more probably to avenge his lover.
