    10:34 My man Tarsus Valorum was probably one of the nicest and most efficient politicians in all Star Wars (watch and learn how to bring honor to your family, Finis), as he was the one whose reforms brought a millenium of peace and also caused the Rebirth of the Republic, marking the end of the KOTOR era. Anyway, it's a shame Tarsus could never say goodbye to his beloved Jedi friends Farfalla and Johun, when the latter were horribly murdered by Bane and Zannah (like any other character in the "Rule of Two" book, actually)

And since that's not bad enough, a handful of beings in it are exposed to dangerous magical powers that come with a risk of corrupting them into power hungry super weapon who might or might not be able to alter reality. Doesn't sounds like a nice place to live, or even just survive, at all.

    One correction. While the Thought Bomb took 100 Jedi and 24 Sith Lords in the initial detonation, it also absorbed the Force remnants of every Force user that fell on Ruusan up until that point which put the number of souls and remnants inside the Nexus over a few thousand. This would be the energy that if ever absorbed and utilized could grant the wielder powers unlike any seen before.
    "Jerec, the man who murdered your father, is a great evil. He searches for the location of a sacred place, the Valley of the Jedi. The Force of thousands of Jedi is trapped here. If Jerec captures this power, he will be a creature such as the universe has never seen. A supernova of stars in a fleeting thought-the eradication of life from a star system in a whisper-will be within his power."
    ―Qu Rahn as a Force ghost to Kyle Katarn

    • @papapalps2415
      @papapalps2415 2 роки тому +2

      Its always been somewhat strange that the combined powers of only a mere few thousand Force users (which, relative to the total population of such at any given time, is virtually nothing, probably even if you take into account ones who are powerful enough to be actual Jedi or Sith) is enough to make one person, for all intents and purposes, omnipotent. And its not like Rahn was exaggerating, either. If anything, he was underselling it, considering Jerec mentions as much when he briefly taps into the Valley before being cut off, PLUS also appearently becoming virtually omniscient as well.
      That level of power is simply fucking obscene, even by the high standards of Legends. The best you will basically ever get from individual Force users, even the most powerful ones to ever live in history, is enough to life wipe planets or screw around with capital ships (well, unless you jump on the hyperbole train, I suppose). The jump from that to 'functional omnipotence' is gargantuan.
      Just goes to show, in universe, how stupidly far Force users powers scale up when combined together. Which, to be fair, IS a documented phenenoma, but still. Would be an interesting thought experiment to see what would happen if you combined the power of the several BILLION Jedi that have supposedly existed in galactic history circa the prequel era, per the TPM novelization.

    The failure of the clone wars Jedi was that they served the republic, not the force. But a Republic that serves the Jedi is able to drag itself out of it's darkest hour. In the star wars galaxy, should the ideal government be a theocratic democracy, where the Jedi order has wide authority over the senate?
    I don't believe we in the real world should have theocratic states, but in star wars the force is proveably there. Just like I don't think we should have military authoritarian quasi-fascist states, but in the world of 40K where humanity faces so many external threats, then such a governing style makes sense.

    • @watch50er
      @watch50er 2 роки тому

      In the right context, yes, in others, not at all. Don’t forget, the arrogant dogma of the Jedi order in Revan’s time that dug in their heels and refused to do anything about the mandalorian crusade because they senesced dark side manipulations behind it? The republic almost died because the main Jedi order was too scared of being fooled by dark side manipulations to actually save it. Still, much like the legacy era, it’s was probably for the best that parts of the galaxy organized themselves into individual republics for the sake of cutting out the inevitable scale of bureaucracy, inefficiency and corruption to not need to rely on well meaning but too prone to divine beyond fixation Jedi. Even though that went south with the machinations of earth Krayt. There is merit with Jedi helping to lead and not being enslaved to worldly corruption but without those same deified force users to forget that life isn’t all spiritual or force transcendent - people need sustenance sanitation rest safety and a reason to believe it, most everyone have no such boons as the force as Jedi do.
      So I would say that the more compartmentalized the integration is, the better- Jedi helping to govern on the planetary level as
      Well as galactic senate level. Though I suspect that gray dealings and under table agreements would be needed just like with the rebel alliance (smugglers, scoundrels) to get long term improvements to happen… and whatever government would have to get real and not promise that xyz traditions will not have to at least evolve to cope with circumstances and prevent choking gridlock.

On the Earth we've some examples, such as the fall of Rome's Empire, or the periodical crashes of China's ones. The Republic should've divided the Galaxy in sectors, not planetary systems, so they were enough big/strong to defend themselves, as the bigger European nations, and a sort of NATO-like alliance for (hypothetical) bigger menaces

    • @sparking023
      @sparking023 2 роки тому +3

      Thing is, some sectors clearly have more strength than others inany ways, be it militaristic, economic, or even from a population development aspect. It would be too much wishful thinking to expect these smaller sectors to not wage war on each other. However, I see where you're coming from.
      In our world we have many countries that couldn't possibly stand up in an open war, but we're past the age of conquering territories, at least physically, because you can have countries that are pretty reliant on other countries, which is a kind of conquering.
      With one big govt you can, in theory, manage the inner sectors and balance things out by managing and rerouting resources, but doing that at a literal galaxy scale is a logistical nightmare, hence the bureaucracy hell that lead to the Dark Age of the Republic.
      To keep that kind of smaller structure in shape, you'd need every sector to be equally geared for combat, in such a way that no one will try starting a war, lest they want to be the owners of a huge pile of debris, similar to ehat we saw during the Cold War. The closest thing you have in the SW universe is the Republic's relation with Hut Space. They don't mess with the Huts because they know doing so would cause much more harm than good

    Hmm, will try rereading the Foundation Trilogy later on. Thanks for the description reminder... I also want to recommend you guys on Dune and Dune Messiah, so to be ready in case Denis Villeneuve makes and releases those film adaptations (also, to see some history and patterns)... wonder if he can continue on to Children of Dune and God-Emperor of Dune though?
    Oh, and probably try reading Armor and The Forever War. I think they have similar themes.

      No
      It's one of the ancestors and valorum from episode
      But because the Republic loved what the first one did they kept electing his bloodline thinking they all had the great qualities the first had only to learn the hard way that wasn't the case as each generation got weaker and more corrupt until finis valorum was a complete pushover

    I'd say the Darkest Period when for a 1000yrs the republic became completely Xenophobic and refused to let non humans on most of the the beautiful core worlds they even banished entire races from their home planets because it was too close to a human world and for 1000yrs The Jedi Helped entire chunks of the core Galaxy was Empty because they didn't want none humans around and they barely had rights
