Starboard motor firing order 18436572 port side is 12756348 .. #1 piston has to be on top dead center of compression stroke.. You are backfiring because it is wrong.. That means its firing while valve is open. 30 years as a marine mechanic
so your saying one sparkplug cable is in wrong order? It doesn't back fire in low around 1200 to 1500 rpm ,,, I was told it could be that the carburetor needs bigger jets for more fuel.
Double clamp all fuel lines.
Then the distributor can wasn't on right either, duh!
go down in filter size 2 filters
Flush the tank😅
Pump all fuel out.

@@cordelmar you were told wrong. Jets won’t make an engine backfire. Those engines will run without backfire even if you only ran 500cfm of carb.
You need to go over firing order to see where the mistake was made.
Ill do that today.
Starboard reverse rotation #s are 12756348 not the order way around.!
just replace the fuel lines
Why don't you just put a inline filter in the fuel line. Then you can see rubbish in fuel and easily swap it out
I do have a inline filter just before the carburetor and it works well.
@@cordelmar use 2 one fine one course
