  • In this Video I show you my 16 month old Barbados Cherry Trees (Acerola) I got from Shamus Oleary's Tropical Fruit Trees last year!
    After 1 year of heaving mulching feeding and consistent water, these trees are giving me delicious tropical cherries.
    These cherries are not what you would typically expect from a cherry like bing... They have 3 soft seeds instead of 1 pit inside.
    Since they are a tropical and subtropical tree, they do not like to grow in areas that freeze.
    But if you do live in a warmer climate, these trees or bushes will thrive.
    Of course every fruit tree loves to be heavily mulched and fed/watered consistently.
    This superfood berry is super high in Vitamin C and other beneficial Vitamins, Minerals, also has Protein and high in antioxidants!
    There are many health benefits of this fruit, which if you dont have your own tree, you can buy organic powder or capsules. Make sure anything you buy is organic and has no fillers! That is very important.
    Some health benefits of Acerola / Barbados Cherry are:
    - Reduces Oxidative Stress
    - Helps Prevent Obesity
    - High in Cancer Fighting Antioxidants and Anti Inflammatories
    - Helps prevent Diabetes
    - Known to Prevent Liver Damage
    - Promotes Healthy Skin and Increased Collagen Formation
    - Improves Heart Health
    - Supports the Immune System
    - Anti Aging
    - Mood Enhancer
    - Anti Septic
    - Balances Blood Fat levels
    I hope you are able to get your own Acerola tree planted at your house so you can enjoy these health benefits along with delicious fruit almost all year long!

    I bought my Barbados Cherry plant a month ago. I don't have a garden, have planted it in a pot in my balcony with only 4 hrs of sunshine. I am not too hopeful of a bountiful of harvest but seeing your energetic video is itself a treat.

      I ordered an acerola cherry online six months ago. It was a four inch twig with roots. I planted it and it’s still four inches high but it has about a dozen “branches” that are three feet long! I will probably hang it up and see what happens.

    If there was such a thing as the Midas Green Touch, where any plant a person touches grows beyond expectation, It's clear that Dave Stone has that Midas Green Touch. Those Acerola Barbados cherries look great. Thanks again for the two cuttings you gave to me last fall. They are now about 20" long with a few branches each. Thanks for showing what the flowers look like on yours. Maybe my two will have flowers this year and if so, perhaps some great looking cherries like yours. Great video. Thanks again.

      Surfview thanks bro!! I’m so glad the cuttings are doing well! They may take a bit longer to get to this stage bc I planted mine as 3 gallons so they were prob already 1 year old.
      But keep going and next year you will start getting cherries!

    lol great vid! just wanted to share my sad moringa story.. met a guy, planted 2 moringas at his place that I babied in pots for 3 years, broke up with guy a week ago. Now, I have no moringas... this hurts so bad! he was so selfish in so many ways.. may karma find him. He didn't know what they were but didn't want me to have my moringas.. a truly brokenhearted moringa fan... :(

    On a weekly basis..how much water would you estimate your acerola tree needs? I know this may change during the cooler months. Just a rough estimate?

    • @DevelopAwesomeSkills
      @DevelopAwesomeSkills  6 років тому +1

      Forage Forage well I have 20 bubblers on my some so water gets spread far, but each acerola has its own bubbler and I run the zone for 12 minutes every morning at the moment.

    • @forageforage3520
      @forageforage3520 6 років тому +2

      OK.. thanks.. I was watching..another video..on Figs..and she was indicating.. during Phoenix hot months..each tree is getting about 3 gallons at each watering.. and does that 3 times a week. During cooler months.. she said about 2 to 3 gallons only twice per week.
      Really trying to get a handle at how much water.. might really be needed to have edible tree forest..+ other edible plants.

    • @DevelopAwesomeSkills
      @DevelopAwesomeSkills  6 років тому

      Forage Forage yes water is one of the main keys. And consistency of water is very important... and with heavy wood chips it is hard to overwater bcc the wood chips will soak it up.
      I like erring on the side of more water to get everything established. Then I’ll cut back over the years. Last year when I planted I watered 2x per day on everything.

    I have two 7” seedlings. Their leaves are turning brownish at the edges. Am I over watering , not giving it enough fertilizer, not enough sun? I’m in zone 10b. Thanks for your help !

    • @DevelopAwesomeSkills
      @DevelopAwesomeSkills  6 років тому +1

      L O F E N O I A L O F make sure you mulch heavy- like 2ft deep around the tree. Then feed the mulch with organic fertilizer and water daily...
      Sometimes they may need a bit of afternoon shade during the hot months to come if they are trying to heal from some damage... once healthy again you can remove the shade.
      Even full sun trees appreciate shade sometimes:)

      Develop Awesome Skills that’s great 😄 do you recommend folier kelp spray and worm castings for fertilizer? Or even using a general fruit fertilizer sprinkled around drip line? Thanks

    • @DevelopAwesomeSkills

      L O F E N O I A L O F. How I feed my trees
      my - not so secret mix... lol - is 4 ingredients for root feeding and 3 ingredients for foliar feeding mixed in a 5 gallon bucket.
      Root feeding- for maximum growth feed 1 five gallon bucket per tree every month during the growing season - spring through fall - do not feed in winter.
      Root feeding mix
      - Humic acid
      - Liquid seaweed
      - Chelated iron
      - Fish emulsion
      Mix: 1 capful of each ingredient into the 5 gallon bucket then fill with water.
      This will feed one tree. Repeat this process for each fruit tree you want to feed... once per month or once every 2 months, even once every 3 months during the growing season will be beneficial.
      Foliar feed: for maximum growth spray all your trees, every 2 weeks during the growing season - spring through fall - do not feed during winter. Spray the entire leaf, the top and underside with a light mist covering the entire the whole tree including new growth. Make sure you apply foliar feed around dusk-- after the sun has set - so the sun doesn’t bake the leaves with liquid on them.
      Also make sure to follow mixing instructions carefully as having a mix that is too strong can damage the plant by basically overdosing on nutrients.
      Foliar feed mix:
      - humic acid
      - Liquid seaweed
      - Chelated iron
      Mix one capful of each ingredient in a 5 gallon bucket, fill with water and you will have 5 gallons of spray.. which will last a long time.
      Get a 1 gallon pressurized pump sprayer and fill and spray all trees at dusk 2x per month.
      You can find all the ingredients on amazon, I buy them in 1 gallon containers which will last me almost 2 years.
