- "The Sealed Room" is an film based on the idea of bricking an adversary into a sealed room as an act of revenge. This is based in part on the literature of Edgar Allan Poe and Honore de Balzac. The film was directed in 1909 by D W Griffith for the American Biograph company. It features Arthur Johnson (as the king), Marion Leonard (as the girl) and Henry Walthal (as the musician). The film also features early appearances by Mary Pickford and Mack Sennett.

An excellent early Biograph short with Arthur V. Johnson (1876-1916) who was said to be D.W. Griffith’s favorite actor.
That was exceptionally well directed and acted.
This feels a 1920s film more than 1900s. Excellent short film!

10:20 is so human and real...when the lovers turn on each other and cast blame. No wonder Mr. Griffith excelled beyond other directors at this time.

Very early horror movie. Bit unbelievable in parts, but enjoyable all the same.
For such early films, they're actually convincing horror scenes and plots.

Somehow the piano music doesn't fit the horrific scene of the two people suffocating while the king rejoices.
