Background voices: _"Inner go home. Talk shit somewhere else"_
McDowell: *"You interested in free room & board, union salary and little to no responsibility?"*
Background voices: _"I take it. Give it to me"_
🤣🤣🤣
Callback characters: Not just the captain of the Cannot, but also the first belter that pushes the captain was the Belter on a Soapbox/exposition Belter from the first episode.
...who looks like the actor spent most of the pandemic lockdown eating. And the one who crushed the glass cat was the guy from the Ganymede refugee ship who spaced all the inners in front of Prax.
@@MattNolanCustom I think the fact that that guy (who was listed in the season 1 credits as "Gaunt Belter") is so not-gaunt in this one is meant to show you how rough times have been for Belters on Ceres in the intervening years
@@wagnarokkr the Belters have had it rough for an entire century. I don't think it got particularly worse in the last 10 years. I doubt they made him look less gaunt here on purpose. I get it. I gained a few pounds over lockdown too
The belter that crushes his figurine is also a callback character. He is the one that spaces all the inners on the refugee ship with Prax.
The reporter is Monica Stewart, played by Anna Hopkins, who btw also co-owns a pizza restaurant in Toronto called Danny’s Pizza Tavern.
the thought of this existing + someone being funny but in a NON harmful way = holly cow! someone should make a "Remember the Cant" clear window cling and leave it on a bathroom surface mirror/stall wall
While I do love her as gutsy reporter Monica Stuart, I’ve never been able to shake the awesome job she did as “Berlin” in Defiance. Anyone who’s watched that knows Anna Hopkins does a death stare really well.
Not quite as strong as an Edward James Olmos death stare but “Berlin” had some fire in her.
Monica Stuart ("the journalist") was _not_ a member of the Canterbury, and also was not "in 5 seasons". She was first introduced in episode 3x07 when the documentary crew was aboard the Roci. She appeared in the seasons 3, 5, and 6.
#RememberTheMonica
The real irony with Holden wasn't that he started by accepting a job with little to no responsibilities. But that the whole series of events after was triggered by him taking responsibility in relaying the distress call from the Scopuli that got the Cannot blown away.
Looking Forward to the Post-Penultimate episode, and hopefully where you go after.
It shows how he grew as a character since then. Where he was willing to almost turn down a job and a promotion to XO out of immaturity, to the point of maturity that he reaches by the end of the season.
@@eds1942 Doesn't that Imply that everyone else on the Canterbury was more immature, for voting to ignore the distress signal?
@@johnniequinn3215 no. Just with the scene in this x-ray clip, his previous non-committal relationships and when he turned down the position for the Cant’s XO,.. and maybe when he first agreed to ignore the distress call and didn’t except responsibility for when he did decide to listen to it since standing on principle to do what he believed was right no matter what it cost him was what led to him being kicked out of the military years before the show and what kept Holden and gang entangled with practically every big problem going forward from episode 2 or 3 on. Whereas the skipper of the Cant treated the issue of the distress call as more of a labor issue and practical experience so errored on the side of caution.
These XRays are so fun. Just little backstories and fill ins for these characters. It's like getting to know a close friend just a little better.
Glad you enjoyed them. Thanks for watching them.😊
The artistic choice versus optimist choice. The Strange Dogs arc is sadly not the big win I would have hoped, but when you read the later books you will value those moments. It was the optimistic choice. (They tried to prime for the whole enchilada...Pun intended.) The artistic choice got explored in the "One Ship", I am grateful they gave us both, and the "One Ship" is real value. Thank you for your reactions. I look forward to 6E6.
*Easter eggs*
The first person the big bald guy bumps into is the protester with the loud speaker in season 1.. The guy that crushes the little statue is the one that spaced all the inners when we met Prax.
Any more?
Pretty sure that's Michio in the background at 3:35.
@@heteroclitus It does look like her but Vanessa Smythe is not in the credits for this one at all
I'd like to suggest that the Expanse creators make a Red Nose Day x-ray episode, with Ade (the Cannot pilot who was sleeping with Holden).
The entire episode would be her about to talk with Holden about something very important, but they keep getting interrupted before the audience finds out what it is.
After a series of escalating absurd situations, we know how it ends: "There's something you should know …" (nuke).
There's at least two other people from the first episode here: The captain of the Cant, and the Belter rabble rouser (who I think is one of the first Belters we see and hear on the show).
The other belter at the bar is the captain from S2E08 Pyre who teaches the inyalowda a lesson
What would have happened to the solar system if Holden DIDN'T take that job?!?
This serves as a great "where we started" at the end of the show, and the navigator gal Holden had a fling with on the cant was named Ade.
Somehow they made Holden look 10 years younger. Was it just the clean shave? It seemed like more than that. Was it just how he carried himself? Either way I bought he was actually 10 years younger.
You guys didn't mention that you recognized the Canterbury's captain and his little tchotchkes
A clean shave can take 10 years off a man easily
In Try and that Guy they said it was just a shave.
@@rrcollier but he'd also starved himself somewhat to look more gaunt and haggard in S6. So that, plus the shave, more relaxed body language and smiling takes years off.
@@VerticalBlank I trimmed my beard a little too much once and I became a literal baby
I Canterbury imagine what will be able to fill the void left by this show when it's gone =(
Wdym last of The Expanse? I expect my book club every month at least! :p
Cheers guys, see you Tuesday!
Not me personally but my Dad. We are German and we where in Paris and hungry, that was 25 years ago, so no one there would talk to us when they noticed that we where german.
We than settled to just go to a McDonalds. My Dad looks at the menu and says "Yes, I can read this !" and starts ordering.
The nice Employe took the whole order, than smiled at him and said "Oui", which means "yes"... but my Dad didn't knew that... he understood "Wie", which is the german for "what". So instead of her accepting the order, he thaugth that she didn't understand him... Annoyed and hangry, he started yelling "What do you mean what !? It's right there" and pointed at the menu board.
Everyone in our group but him fell over laughing XD
So glad that you guys picked up the show and that you enjoyed it as much as you did. It's been a great ride!
Actor Chance Perdomo just passed away on March 29 Easter Friday 😭😭😭 we won't see him on S2 of Gen V😭😭😭😭 it was a motorcycle accident😭😭
I think the tipping point for any industry that survives on customer service happens when it becomes publicly traded. Leadership becomes diluted and then boils down to their fiduciary requirement to provide returns on the owner's investments. Before that point a company is more likely to be propped up by investors interested in growth. Their business is to draw people to their platforms, but after the sale the focus often shifts to exploiting the purchase for profit. That can have an adverse effect on the platform. But it's still arguably better than being bought up by private equity. They have a habit of taking things to a whole other level, by cannibalizing the company with reductions of things like maintenance, staffing, outsourcing, etc. These can give their balance sheets the appearance of increasing profitability while disguising the internal costs. Then priorities can shift again to selling the company again, in part or in whole, to some other chumps who think they are parking their money in a safe and profitable venture.
Monica Stuart, Portrayed by Anna Hopkins, from Montreal. I had too look her up.
steven is so baby in this it really did feel like it could be from the first season! the thing that stood out to me when i first saw it was the location, in the first few seasons they mostly hung out in that swanky bar in ceres but they haven’t been using that set in favor of this little corner bar lately. not that it’s a bad thing, just more noticeable every time i rewatch
I’m going to miss these
Can't wait for the finale!
LoL. Like someone making a toast and expressing breast wishes, instead of best wishes.
"we're all the same people" amen to that
I love your reactions.
You two need to react to The Right Path by Zurik 23M! It's a tribute to The Expanse!! It's amazing!
Thank you both for sharing your journey!
Holy SHIT I love the shirt!!!! I think I may have to get one!!!
#JusticeforMonica
Her name is Monica
Nice shirt!
In season 1, episode 1 Naomi asks Holden how he got his job.
Now we know!
But the question left unanswered forever from S1E1 is what Ade thought was something Jim needed to know.
@@MattNolanCustom her secret ingredient in her fake coffee was dirt she scraped off her mag boot - that's what made it really taste like coffee.
And so it began.
Pleaseee watch the Foundation next🙏
Remember the Monica!!
That should be your next t-shirt! ;)
Team Monica.
Monica Stuart
Ya I feel like this was filmed earlier and was dropped on the cutting floor in the early edits....
it wasn't
Monica
You should do a full show review / discussion sessions 1 through 6 to really pull it all together, themes, arcs etc.
Monica is in the scene with Holden because that way she can give a mid-connection to the history without taking away from the focus of Holden.
Anna Hopkins is fanatic 😀
Auday
His ex-GF from the Kant, she was pregnant when she died, n afew days later he gets Radiated nearly to death making him sterilize n taking medication for the rest of his life. Holden get emotional bitten up every second until he is not the same person anymore, Life trauma is a bitch.
Well it was in the books that, like all spacers, he already had gotten sperm/eggs frozen, to safeguard against radiation damage, but yes I agree with your main point.
@@VerticalBlank u book readers have all the good info. I read a lot n I even have the full audio books series but haven’t had the time to start them. My GF read them n she love them but told me the show did made a lot of changes so it was better to watch the full show first n then read the books. I need to get to them, I blame Brandon Sanderson for releasing so many books.
@@VerticalBlank He said that in the series as well.
we don't know she was pregnant. That's just popular speculation
May I recommend The Magicians? AKA The Expanse but H*rry P*tter/Narnia. AKA have you ever wanted to feel about magic and whimsy the way you do about space?
BONUS: multiple queer characters, mysteries, plot escalations, and cosplay opportunities ✨️
I think they'd loooooove The Magicians.
@@spacechampi0n I know, right 😃
