We wanted to share some of the suggestions and ideas we have put into place here at Treadway to enable our Team to come through this stronger, more unified and with clear direction. Treadway is here for the long haul and we want to assure and help our customers as much as we can to bring you along on the journey. Management & Leadership - There has never been a time perhaps since WWII when leadership was so critical: • Positivity & Confidence. It is imperative that, no matter what difficulties you face, that as leaders and Managers you are positive and instill confidence into everyone you work with. • Start at the Top. Anything changes you implement must start with you. Look at taking a wage cut yourself before you discuss any savings with your team. They will see you are leading from the front and this will give you the moral authority with regard to difficult discussions, you will need to have. • Communication. Over-communicate in these times, especially with remote staff. There are several excellent tools available for this. Here at Treadway we are utilizing Zoom and Whatsapp go keep in touch with our teams at home. • Act quickly. As they say, it is the Quick and the dead. Don’t hesitate! Indecisiveness will kill opportunities so have an open mind and adapt and make decisions quickly, there isn’t a moment to lose! There are still sales to be made, identify other areas to generate revenue and move fast. • Collaborate. Include all your team in discussions on cost savings and contingency plans. Make them feel part of it and get them to come up with suggestions and ideas for their areas in the business. This will give you buy-in and allow you to achieve more from your team. • Liquidity. The old saying Cash is king applies more than ever. Build an emergency response plan with your key employees and cut costs to the concrete immediately. At Treadway we have implemented a 30% cost saving that has allowed us to keep all our permanent staff at this point. Make sure you are making full use of the government wage subsidy scheme. Employees • Mindset. Have a growth mindset, take responsibility for your role and make suggestions and ideas on how you can save costs, make your area more efficient. No idea is a bad one, put all suggestions on the table, as long as they are positive and growth-minded. • Personal Costs. Look to see how much you can cut from your personal or family budgets, all the Team at Treadway have done this, and some have been able to find significant savings of up to 35%. This will help you to build a cash buffer for whatever else may be ahead. • Stay Calm. Be careful not to overload on social media and media hype regarding COVID-19, it will not do your anxiety or stress levels any good. Get your information from government sites that are factual, schedule social media free times throughout your day, plan time to read and get fresh air. Develop a plan for your days and stick to it to help you stay in a routine, so you are at your best physically, mentally and spiritually for when we move out of this. With every challenge comes opportunity. Find yours, both for yourself and for your company. Above all, stay safe and well,
