The name "1815" is a reference to the birth year of Adolph Lange (founder of the brand). The deadbeat seconds was his favorite complication on a watch, therefore they added it to the watch :)
Hey Martin, thanks for the information! The only thing standing between me and a 1815 "Homage to Walter Lange" is 47,000 €! Love that watch! Kindest regards, Bill
Interesting that Philippe Dufour would pick *2* watches from A. Lange & Söhne. Well, it is a superb manufacture. Dufour is such a pleasant fellow. Nice recap, Bill.
Hey Lloyd, thanks man! That is interesting as is the fact that when asked to name (for collectors) the best watch under $10,000 he named the Nomos - yet another watch company from Glashütte! Kindest regards, Bill
Hi Vita, thanks man. I think I have to start working on my wife a year in a advance so that I can go ... so the campaign has begun!! Would love to meet the carré des horlogers, and learn how to pronounce "carré des horlogers" correctly! Cheers, Bill
Boy, I wish I had watched this video before. It would had saved me lots of time trying to catch-up with SIHH this year! ;) Absolutely great pics. I believe the IWC Pallwebber is the most accessible piece of the set. Hence is in my dream list. Last but not least, I would also add the new Vacheron Constantin Fifty Six line to the pack! Best, Amintas
Of those, I agree about the IWC. The watch I liked the best was the H. Moser et Cie 'Flying Hours' but overall I'd prefer the H. Moser perpetual calendar. I'm going to go broke just talking about all the great new watches.... Cheers, Bill
Hey Jaber, you were at the show!! Tell you what; you recommend 3 to me, and I'll find 3 more I like, and then do a video on all six! (See if you can name 3 that are more affordable than the ones I pick!!) Kindest regards compadre! Bill
The Ö in the A. Lange & Söhne name is basically pronounced like Y in the English word "syringe". The S, on the other hand, is simply a Z. Thus: [zYne]. As for the watches I really like the IWC. Although I like the Zeitwerk's steampunk looks and proportions, this is very nice and has a decent power reserve compared to Zeitwerk.
Hi Piotr!! Thanks for the tip on pronouncing the ö - I didn't know that. Is ZHURN closer? Lots of people compare the Pallweber with the Zeitwerk, and I think that the new H. Moser Endeavor Flying Hours might be added in that mix for an interesting type of disc watch. Of course there's the FP Journe Vagabondage! Kindest regards, Bill
You're very welcome. Yeah, considering r is oftentimes silent in English your version could work. Anyways I guess it will always be a pain in the neck for many people, just like JLC, which also contains a German word in its name (I always pronounce Jaeger the German way). Thanks for pointing out to the other duo of disc watches, I'm very new to this fascinating hobby so I appreciate any new bits of info. Best, P
Hey Frantisek, I enjoy finding good things about IWC, especially since I am not a fan their their stealth use of ETA movements. What is it about the Urban Jurgensen escapement mechanism that you like? (I like everything about UJ!) Cheers, Bill
The pivoted detent escapement. As a consequence, the seconds hand ticks like in quartz watch and doesn't sweep. That might make someone think that you have a cheap Chinese piece.
It has jumping seconds? I need to learn more about the pivoted detent escapement! It sounds very interesting ... I'm probably the kind of collector who will spend a lot of money on a mechanical piece to have a watch that looks like a cheap quartz! Cheers, Bill
Hi Jim, my watchmaking skills are in their infancy! That Louis Moinet Meterois is well beyond advanced. Right now I'm still disassembling my Sellita 210. Thanks for the tip, though! Kindest regards, Bill
The history of Walter Lange watch is not a good one really. There was a patent No. 182 dated 1877 It was made by the great grand father of Walter Lange. He wanted it to be inculed in watch in A Lange and Sohne. He insisted it again and again. But, Lange being a Richmond group didn't see any monetary opportunity in that. However, right after he passes away those arseholes now want to make a watch using that parent and call it a tribute to Walte Lange. They made a steel watch and sold it an auction fetching more than 600000 dollar. Watch this video, you will get it. ua-cam.com/video/iPrLDjQSw5g/v-deo.html
Hey Greg! Is that a choice of Zeitwerk over Pallweber or A. Lange & Söhne over IWC? ... and what about the new H. Moser Flying hours? watchesbysjx.com/2018/01/sihh-2018-h-moser-cie-introduces-the-endeavour-flying-hours.html Love to hear your opinion! Cheers, Bill

WatchArtSci i sure know the feeling. I could however “settle” for a regular 1815 - absolut beautiful watch series indeed
Your videos are amazing. I enjoyed them immensely.

WatchArtSci Wow, that makes me kind of proud to own a Nomos as my first watch.
Hey Diggert, it should!! Congratulations on a good choice!! Kindest regards, Bill
Very interesting to hear from some one like Philippe and find out about the engineering behind these small machines. Thanks!
Great to hear from you Leigh! Kindest regards, Bill
Nice Recap. Hope That next year you can come over here To see the watches and meet the people. Specially at the carré des horlogers.

Thank you so much for another wonderful review.
Hey Jack, thanks man! My pleasure. Kindest regards, Bill

Rightful respect to the royalty of horology. Mr. DuFour is a legend and the last of the Mohicans. Well done.
Hey Todd Mr. Dufour would appreciate your sentiment ... but let's hope there are more Mohicans out there... Cheers, Bill
How much 2 datograph cost? comparing to a single triple split :)
Hey John, a Datograph is $90,700 and a triple split is $147,000 - so it's about a third more. Cheers, Bill
Thank you professor. Would love to see your top five or ten Top watches. There were many good watches that did not get any press cover.
Hey Jaber, you were at the show!! Tell you what; you recommend 3 to me, and I'll find 3 more I like, and then do a video on all six! (See if you can name 3 that are more affordable than the ones I pick!!) Kindest regards compadre! Bill
WatchArtSci its a deal👍🏻✨

45mm with hardly any bezel? The IWC is a MONSTER! ;-)
Hey Mad Man! The IWC is showing off a magnificent movement! More watch! Less bezel! Cheers, Bill
DuFour is a genius and he chose the very best IMO. I would love to wear the Tribute to Walter Lange myself.
Hey ME, I'm with you on that Walter Lange ... that would be a nice one to have. Cheers, Bill
Once again ‘Bill’ thank you.
Hey Kenneth, thanks! What kind of watches do you like to collect? Cheers, Bill
At least, on this IWC you can rest assured the movement is not a decorated ETA, LOL
Not decorated at all Marguit! Cheers, Bill
Very unique and intriguing watch collector. Acquired taste for sure, but with such class.
Hey John, thanks man! We can learn a lot from a watchmaker of Philippe Dufour's stature. Kindest regards, Bill
The IWC has really sweet design. I would also select Urban Jurgensen, just because of their interesting escapement mechanism.

Nowshed, Richemont is in it to make money. Everything else is painted over with hyperbole. Take care, Bill
Zeitwerk over Pallweber
