One of the few times in the game when Titans died like battleships. It reminds me of when I first started playing and even seeing a battleship was rare, and one dying was a big deal. Titans really are the battleships of old.
Something you maybe didnt know. Alot of titans that jumped from papi's side appeared not fitted in space due to a bug and when they died they appeared in space in T5Z at sun fully fitted. Thats why they died so quick and some didnt die that quick. If you care to look it up look on zkillboard the system M2-XFE january 3rd 2021 and open a bunch of the papi titans. You can quickly find it if you go to stats then titans.
It's easy to see why people find Mittani annoying. Apparently the odds weren't "impossible", nor was PAPI "far above" Imperium weight class. The fight was cut off by the regular downtime, at which time Imperium had killed more titans so Mittani promptly declared a "win". PAPI won the ISK-battle (11.77 vs. 12.20 Trillion ISK), had the Imperium killed fewer titans but won the ISK battle, Mittani would of course still have declared a win. Had PAPI killed more titans and won the ISK battle, Mittani would have still found a way to declare a win for the Imperium somehow. It's also interesting to note that Imperium was within spitting distance of their own Keepstar the whole fight, with instant replacements readily available. I hope information gets out as to why the fight even happened. The system is not strategically important, mainly used by Goons for mining and industry. Could it be that PAPI stumbled upon a station with a large stash of "something" Goons hadn't managed to evacuate? The big winners in this battle is of course the EVE community! This is the kind of battle that draws new players to the game. The following months will be very interesting, somehow it feels like there are even bigger battles to come.
"It's easy to see why people find Mittani annoying." -This is the entire purpose of his external persona (external being how people outside the imperium view him). While I doubt the koolaid will allow most to even entertain the idea, but he irritates the Imperium's enemies to get them to attack because goons love fighting. "Apparently the odds weren't "impossible", nor was PAPI "far above" Imperium weight class. It is much easier to coordinate one entity as opposed to many. I am impressed that PAPI was able to keep pace in spite of that. Numbers advantage played a part in it, but it wasn't enough without their coordination efforts. Imperium held the field and looted the majority of it which the "isk" war won't show. Every side can claim some victory in this battle so they will. Everyone will find some aspect and claim victory. This is colloquially called 'spin' in the community and is a vital part of maintaining morale. If you're naive enough to believe 'your' side or 'their' side doesn't do it, then I'm afraid you need to put down the koolaid. "It's also interesting to note that Imperium was within spitting distance of their own Keepstar the whole fight, with instant replacements readily available. " -Much like X47 was for Panfam. However, this is false. If PAPI had no reinforcements to bring to the battle they would not of cycled the jammer as much as they did to bring them in. The imperium was forced to wait to reinforce until PAPI cycled the jammer. "I hope information gets out as to why the fight even happened. " - As your intuition is correct (you certainly won't challenge it) the Imperium spent hours jumping their evacuated assets from Jita and Amarr to get to this battle. The Imperium petitioned CCP to get teleports from Amarr/Jita to get those 'instant' reinforcements you talked about earlier to the battle. The Mittani himself payed them with his RMT bucks bought by the many bots of the imperium. "The big winners in this battle is of course the EVE community! This is the kind of battle that draws new players to the game. The following months will be very interesting, somehow it feels like there are even bigger battles to come." -While I agree about eve winning, the bigger battle cannot happen as there will, by nature of this type of battle, be fewer assets to bring to the fight.
I would like to state that Imperium saved 17 structure timers because of that fight which incudes 2 KS timers and 2 Sotiyo timers. The aftermath of the fight happens to have resulted in 5 Ihubs being reset. Considering that PAPI declared victory because they killed a Trillion worth in 4 KS fights and held grid to salvage and loot, I don't see anything different here from Imperium side claiming the same. Also considering that majority of the PAPI forces have been held in a grid logged off potentially denying them gametime for 2 days even though some can claim it was intended or something but they cannot log back in if they want to play anyway. Considering Imperium have been very vocal in multiple occasions that they will fight and make the enemies bleed which seems to what has happened. The M2-XFC is not known to be an important system till the fight happened, while you might think that the possible jackpot or large stash is there with current mechanics there is no real way to defend a keepstar even if you blue the entire eve to help. Considering that the Asset safety is a much easier and safer approach, I don't see any reason why a fight has to be taken for armor timer as they could have still evacuated everything in the mean time by reffing the jammers. This idea of there is a huge stash of valuables in that system is not something I would take as a logical reason for the fight, it just might have been an opening that Imperium saw and took it. It has been agreed by many players from both sides that neither sides have won if you look at it clearly. For Imperium they cannot save this keeptar anyway and the only reason why the fight is happening is to have fun and make it inconvenient. For PAPI what I have heard is that some of the progress made for a month has been reset to 0 and the fight did come as a surprise. It was clearly mentioned by PAPI capital pilots that the capital grid was regularly bubbled such that capitals were not allowed to jump out even though the order to disengage was given around 20 mins prior to downtime, while some were able to jump out many were stuck inside the bubbles. Some of the Imperium members were seeing progress for last two days while preparing for the war, PAPI is preparing for the fight with move ops and market seeding.

Looking at this video 3 years later and man that would be nasty today with titans costing like 200b+ per hull.
I WAS THERE !!
We have titans to spare. Just can't tell if you are focus firing dds on one. And guns on another so they aren't wasted.

Not played Eve for like 5 years but the irony of Goons battle to stay alive in delve mirroring what they did to BoB back in the day is quite funny.
