In the midst of another gloomy lockdown...these are great to watch again. Cheers guys
Really enjoyed this one gents. Keep up the content. Great filming, solid cinematography, love the color hue.
Saturday evening watching this,......brilliant thanks
Hunting with a tie. This is the most British thing I have ever seen.
Great watch, honest and it happens realtime. It has been exceptionally wet. Give me cold and frosty mornings anytime at this time of year
Nothing like feeling like a duck hunting high birds in that wind Johnny you took some really great shoots.
Love the countryside wish I were there too. One day
Well that was a blast, sitting in my home here in Canada -25 with the wind chill outside, I could be out Hunting White Tail Deer but at 70yrs. of age no thanks. I was out all last week with the gang Hunting Deer with Hounds driving the deer, got a good chill but loved every minute. I'm originally from Yorkshire, and love watching your video's and other Shooting and Hunting related videos from back home. Thank you for sharing, I have knocked Canada Geese out of the sky with Steel shot, just takes some getting used to and finding the right shot choke combination, I' sure you'll get used to it. Thanks again for sharing.
One great video Chaps!🇺🇸 The medicine container is a nice addition to your hunt.
Such cool visits to the UK for this Yank. Thank you for posting these videos I resently discovered and enjoy. Such great information. Could only be enhanced if Doc Martin were along. Lol. A great upland channel.
Greetings from the USA! Great video , loved it.
Only into early November and already one of the wettest seasons I can remember beating in, nice video cheers
Well done Johnny boy, another very well put together video. Keep em coming.
In Denmark lead was banded in 1996. Ive been shooting steel since. In size 3 (3,5mm) you can kill smaller birds like ducks and Pheasants up to 45 m or 50 yards. You will however have to have speed at V0= 425ms to do so. In Denmark we have some ethics relative to the distance that we shoot. Small game up to 30 m ex. pigeon, hare and ducks, medium game ex .Fox and geese up to 25 meter and "big game" = roedeer up to 20 m. These are all regarding shooting with the shotgun. I do like your videos
Been on several clay shooting holidays in Devon, best shoots I ever been !
Great video well done TGS Don!! It was a brilliant day, good time enjoyed by us all (except the rugby).
Loved every moment, spent several years beating with my pair of spaniels on most of the best shoots around Nth Devon. Brought back some great memories, now have to hunt Elk and deer here in BC.
I bet that was a culture shock at first.
@@tgsoutdoors and a whole lot less structured, cheaper and a single shot feeds the family for a year :-)
Love the tweed! Looks great!
Great fun to watch. Infantry weather. I miss it...
Great video! Awesome shooting and nice birds.
Johnny, you Sasha have out done your selves! Love so many of your videos this is definitely a favourite! Would be great having you both here in Ontario Canada for a hunt sometime. Wish I had the funds to bring you both for the experience! Cheers to you both!
Thankyou, it’s definitely in our top 5 films we have done.
Ontario would be an adventure, what do you hunt over there?
Great to have a response!😀 I personally hunt whitetail deer, moose, grouse, ducks and geese. If I had more time I would take the opportunity to target other hunt possibilities. Feel free to reach out for comparison or differences between countries anytime.
Thanks again for taking the time to create and inform!
Well done Johnny. Pheasants, British weather and some Rodello's Machine for good measure. Excellent. Chin chin - MI
Real world issues on what looked like an amazing shoot. I’m impressed no matter what You videoed with.
Hahaha! "Even got one for you Sash".... hahaha! That got me. That curio box was epic though. Not something you see over here. I'm starting one.
Great video guys. Really enjoyed it. Keep the coming
Brilliant mate need more hunting videos from you
excellent viewing, got my first game day next week so trying to soak up as much info as possible.
Greetings from America! Great vid.
Really looking forward to the Fabarm testing with steel. I shoot one myself and would choose it over any gun i've shot with so far. Especially since u can shoot steel with full choke. Awesome video, keep it up.
Great to see you doing a proper country gentleman’s shoot Jonny. You certainly deserve to for all the promotion you do to further the English shooting sport. Shame about the weather though....
The weather just adds a bit of character to the day I guess. If everyday was as sunny as the TGS partridge shoot then they wouldn’t be as special!
Thanks for the kind words as always.
The last bit, your reflections on the day, was actually the best part in a great episode. I use steel when hunting mallard on the wing, since we're shooting over wetlands. And I have to go up 2 sizes compared to lead shat to kill effectively. I am a decent shot, I am well attuned to my gear and my rifle, but lead simply has more killing power on mallard. When shooting pidgeons I find that steel or lead doesn't matter, both get the job done on distances below 50 yds. I guess mallard are just more badass.
Mate, looking from New Zealand that looks like a great fun shoot. So different over there, your definitely getting a lot of shooting in on these drives.
It does make me smile at the shirt and tie and the rain gear in use, does your jacket really get sopping wet and hold in water? If so we prefer firmer more modern barriers to rain over here.
Fabulous viewing. The weather? How did you keep your spirits up. Poor cameraman. Steel 😏. Not just the steel but lack of choice of weapons. C'mon gun makers , it won't be a choice we have late but sooner. Well done Johnny
Great video guys. You make some amazing content and this one is right up there. Felt I was out in the cold and wet with you (though I’d have missed every bird lol).
We may not have your fancy pheasant drives but we have the World Cup 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Nice video. You gentlemen seemed to have a great time.
What a fancy hunt, so different from Brazil👏👏👏👏👏
I can feel the cold and wet just watching this.
Wet or happy..... looks like both 😎
Can't wait till the Fabarm arrives!
Really awesome video, love the videos in the shop but these ones out in the field are something else - keep up the good work and I look forward to the next!
If only we could get out more, we would love to be making this content more often!
Thanks for the video!
I really enjoyed getting a glimpse of upland shooting in the UK.
I’ve recently been Interested in coming over from the US to shoot some clay and perhaps birds, so your insights and perspective have been really helpful. Cheers👍
If there is anything we can do to help facilitate the trip, let us know.
Excellent video as always 👍
Thankyou.
Nice video John. Good thing you went shooting instead of watching the rugby live! Hie kom die Bokke!! You will have to go film shooting a few springbokke in the Karoo to make up for England's performance.
Many manufacturers (i.e. Browning) say that shooting steel adds 1/4 to your choke (making 1/2 = 3/4 and 3/4 = 1/1) so would it really be necessary to shoot 1/1 - since that would be extra full?
Here in Denmark we have been shooting steel only (or tungsten/bismuth, but really everyone uses steel) since lead was banned in 1996 and lots and lots of people have shot 3/4 and 1/1 chocked guns using steel with no issue (I have 100's of 12/76 28g 500m/s steel gamebores through my Winchester SX2 with 3/4) - is there really any danger other than potential cosmetic damage to the end of our barrel?
great vid johnny some good kills what gun did you use and choke combination
Ultra XS with 2 flush fit 1/2 chokes. One factory and one teague.
The Eley steels have a muzzle velocity of ~1230 fps (as stated on their website), which is slow even by the standards of lead. The fact that you were still killing high birds with such slow steel pellets is actually pretty promising. If you were to use an equivalent steel cartridge at +1400 fps (eg gamebore biosteel, size 3 at 1490 fps) I doubt you'd even notice a difference in killing ability.
@3:27 That's some really nice engraving, probably not a factory option?
Great hunt. Welcome to my world. Trying to shoot, self film in the rain and doing it every week - and I wear glasses lol! Interested to hear your tests on Fabarm Steel full choke.
Looks an amazing shoot in fine British weather.... What gun are you shooting? Some lovely shots being filmed there
I would love to go to one of these real gentlemenly shoots, I'm involved in a rough shoot on an RAF camp, and it is great fun, I absolutely love it, but I'd like to shoot a very formal shoot just once 😎
Just once isn't an option - it'll have you yearning to go back!
@@tgsoutdoors invite me to yours? 😉🤣
How much does it cost? Is it a day by day pricing or do you have to pay for the season? At the rough shoot I attend, it's £20 for military members, and anything you shoot you can have for free, but we let the beaters have first dibs of the birds. We're nice like that 😉
I've been to Devon. Very pretty, but as I recall the weather I assume that hunt was in July. What kind of pheasants are those? I assume an import into the UK. Lead, for what this info is worth, is now banned in California with the exception of some private clubs. That applies to bullets as well as shot shells.
What boots are you wearing here? Great video as always!
I really enjoy the pageantry and gentlemanliness of these hunts and all the conservation efforts involved. But it also make me sad that this is what hunting in England is.
What was the shoot you were on? Looks like a fantastic place
You guys have a lot of wild birds in your neck of the woods.
Cracking video John .I thought you shot very well, especially having to cope with the weather trying to produce a decent and presentable piece of film with running commentary .Well done .
Thankyou Gerald, glad you enjoyed it.
I Love the hant vary
What style hat are you wearing? It seems more fitted than the ones I’m used to seeing.
Just a regular Laksen flat cap
Hi guys. Huge fan of this video, great cutaways in and amongst some cracking action shots. What are you using as your editing tools? I really like the colours you’ve gone for. What camera are you using for the majority of the filming? Slow mo always looks good with a good sound track!
What estate did you go to?
It looked like you were using the Browning XS Pro on game. Is that because you were using steal? How did you find the gun in the field?
I was indeed, steel proofed and 3" that takes my old stock. A little slow for average pheasants to be honest, great o the high birds although moved with more determination than my MK38.
Not sure i would want it in 32" for game in reality but the 30" version would be a brilliant thing to crossover between clay and game.
Fantastic film as always tgs, I completely agree with you about wanting to get the cleanest kill possible without just wounding the bird, however I do feel we have a responsibility to take home whatever we shoot on the day and sometimes I feel taking too tightly choked gun out on a normal sort of not so high bird day you can knock the meat around too much.
I therefore ask did you manage to take any of the steel shot ones home and if so was there any noticeable difference compared to lead?
The meat looked different - the damage seemed cleaner somehow.
Tasted the same however!
One note was that they didn’t smell ‘gutty’ as some birds can do. Not a big enough sample to draw any solid date from, merely some observations
The Gun Shop, that is very good to hear and I also wonder if it may be easier to get steel shot out than lead shot using a strong magnet. I may have to try it myself!
What kind of jacket are you wearing in the last drive? Some excellent shooting 👍🏻
A Merkel Gear 365 jacket
Hie Johnny. Im just getting into hunting and im planning on getting my hunting licence next year , so im pretty much new to everything. What rifle and shotgun would you recommend to me as a beginner to get as a start. Im planning on spending a €1000 on each, plus a little more on the rifle espeacially with a good scope.Overkill or just right? I would love to read your reply! If anyone else can help i would really appreciate it.
I would say that’s about right, a used shotgun and decent used rifle for that money will have you in ownership of guns that will outlast you.
A used beretta/browning for 1k will be a sound investment.
A used Remington or tikka with decent but basic scope for the same money is also realistic.
Where did you got those glasses with the cam?
Is there a limit on how many shotgun shells you can purchase at one time or have in your possession? Also, can you purchase buck shot and slugs?
No limit to standard shot shells, Slug is on FAC as is proper buckshot.
@@tgsoutdoors So you don't need an FAC to buy birdshot?
So, this looks pretty fun but so different from what I am accustomed to in the states. Are these pheasants "caged" birds that are released from a certain point and sail over the designated shooting areas? Just so different from the way I hunt wild birds in MN, IA, or SD...I am used to hunting behind the lab, covering a lot of ground, and the dog flushing the birds up within range.
Fun to watch though.
these are released ahead of the shooting season into woodland and are wild birds come shooting season so you have to entice them into an area you wish to push them from into an area they want to go back to ie. there release wood. the guns will stand in there way.
Think stocked or managed fishing lake
Why do you use gamebore silver steel over gamebore black gold steel?
Also, i've been hunting with a Fabarm /w steel for a couple of years. If you'd like I'm happy to share my experience. Great film btw
Hi mate..please try a proper cartridge. B&P F2 Classic 34gr nr5. 1/2 choke. No more wounded birds up to 75 yards...but warning, it's a tight pattern, very tight... at 20yards 15cm diameter. I hope never have to change again. I use 76cm barrel 686E sport beretta with 1/2 choke.
Great vid guys. This is why I prefer wildfowling! I don't need to dress like I'm preparing to annexe a third world country :D
No, you get to dress like a bush 😂 😂
What was the reason for using steel ?
Lead is poisoning predators that eat any pheasants that get away. Same for ducks and geese. We've been using steel to hunt in the states since I was a kid.
I hate to agree with the lead is the only way guys but unfortunately it’s still the best. I do my best to shoot steel and fiber wads especially on public land but for hunting I’m still gonna shoot lead where legal. I always have both, but lead is still best. In fact not ten minutes ago I loaded all my Typhoon Mags with steel No5 shot for some clays I’m doing this coming Sunday, (not tomorrow) and I know lead would be better but since it’s farm land I’m okay with some misses or more likely bad hits.
What boots do you hunt in?
Le chameu wellingtons
Hey, what are those ear plugs you used? Cheers
Ed Hughes they look like Custom fit guards, I have a set and they are bloody great!
Custom Fit Guards
The CF Duos - review on them will be coming soon, just wanted to give them a decent test
Cheers, I’ll have a look at them
The gun shop i know steel is a new thing for you guys. but over here in denmark we had a total lead ban for about 20 years.
We are not bound by C.I.P regulations so we got some pretty nasty steel cartridges. #2 hypersteel going at 480m/s we run them through full chokes when hunting eiders at sea
usually in my winchester SX3 with carlsons chokes. they can handle it but the recoil is to stiff for regular o/u or S/s
Have you any experience with copper?
@@tgsoutdoors copper shot is hard to come by here in Denmark. And with import tax, shipping etc. It gets way to expensive to produce.
Back when we switched to steel we got flooded with bad cartridges, we are kinda experiencing that again at the moment with all the ECO wads, a lot of those are not producing the speeds required by Danish law for steel shot. 400m/s
I think one of the most used cartridges over here is the gamebore hunting steel 425m/s
But waterfowlers hunting diving ducks usually use the really fast ones hypersteel 12/70 32 grams at 480
Or reloads that performs in that range or even harder.
But they are known to break cheap guns and mostly only used in semies
Steels been a thing for a while here in America, they have been developed to the point they have perfectly acceptable performance. But heavy metal like tungsten or bismuth are still good bets if your going after tougher prey and need a little more ompf.
J - that’s exactly why I bought the same Miroku too. 3 years on I will find it very hard to find an alternative. I would rather shoot 5 good birds and eat them myself than 30 average clay-like birds and send them off. Is anyone sure we can’t shoot steel through full and 3/4?
Well, the barrels just aren’t rated in anything tighter than half. I have been told by a reliable source that the 3/4 will be fine.
I’m not sure if I’m ready to potentially bugger my barrels finding out.
I think there is an option for using solid Copper shot - now I just need to find a supplier who had them at normal money!
To shoot high birds the one most important thing I've learned you need is a telephone number for a bank account
😂 😂
Only if you want to shoot ones flying off of famous hills!
Rain or not, I think you guys were having a great time. I seem to remember doing something similar without rain gear or shooting. Now where was that? 😁 Does the "Wanker" Don not own a pair of wellies? I think for all the abuse Sash gets, if he doesn't have a pair, LMK. Great video guys. I throughly enjoyed it.
Hiya, how do you find out who the local land owner is?
the shoot owner?
Can't you use Tungsten or Bismuth ?
Can you bankroll that for me?
What's the gun you shot?
Browning Ultra XS
I mainly clicked on this video bc i wanted to know more about the britsh way of hunting. After watching this video, i can say that it is completely different from what we do in finland. Really the only similarity is that tou shoot at flying creatures with a shotgun
In the Netherlands we are only allowed Steel ...
To each his own I guess. This looks rather boring to me. I grew up pheasant hunting where you walked miles in a day through, corn, milo maize, natural plum thickets that would have torn this gentlemans clothes to shreds, 14' tall hemp, sugar beets and any number of very thick ground covers. The birds were wild as birds not raised in pens so they were much stronger flyers and runners. The dogs made the day as they made the difference on success rates. Shots were almost always done from a not very solid position, stumbling, birds jumping behind you, dozens and dozens of varied types of shots. Plus you were carrying game in your coat and at times that was substantial. Between your shell vest and birds you could be carrying a good load again on sometimes tough terrain. We used flushers more often than pointers since we did a lot of waterfowling also so our dogs had to be 2-dimensional. Glad this fella enjoys this type of thing and great that the other people on this page find it nice too but for me it just looks plain boring. Just my two-cents have a nice day.
Can’t drink drive but can drink and shoot a shotgun ye makes sense

I just love that you’re bringing the endz to English country sports. Long overdue.

Anti-Gun ad on this video???
Its best to talk to the opposition as there's little point preaching to the choir
I love the videos on this channel. I'm just curious as to why there would be a ad like the one that appeared before the video started. Do the producers of the videos have any input on what ads will appear in their videos? Again I respect and enjoy all the videos on this channel. That anti ad was a surprise.
Unfortunately we have the option of ads or no ads and that is where it ends.
What was the Ad?
It started off about some mass shooting in a bar and about some misunderstood unhappy guy living in his mom's basement and that is where I hit the skip ad button. I'm sorry I did not finish watching it as it was clearly BS.
Interesting to know that the anti gun lobby is finding that sort of stuff
The cruelest of sport! Soo many birds become maimed and go uncollected ..sick
I have one laik she
I'm sorry but you call this "hunt" ? Ball Trap with pheasants OK
Steel sucks. The only good that may come out of all of this "non-tox" business, is that bismuth comes way down in price.
Vraiment une chasse de roosbeef aucune éthique de chasse aucun mérite sa devrait être interdit cette pratique 🤦♂️

Your constant commercials interruptions make your video unpleasant to watch.
