Best LEAF-review on UA-cam. And that's because this guy does point the POSITIVE points of the LEAF, not just that it's expensive or it's range. Good job :)
yeh i thought this car was a joke, so much so i took the stupid thing for a dummy drive, ,,, i was blown away by it!!!! what a fab car, i really want one now . fan bloody tastic!!!!
This guy is often harsh on hybrids. So I was surprised to see him give so much praise to the Nissan Leaf. (I'm not complaining mind you. I was just surprised.) Despite the high cost, this car does make sense on a lot of levels. If they could do something about the range limit, and reduce the amount of time it takes to charge the car, Nissan may very well be the first company to have designed the perfect car.
I just bought a 2011 leaf with 25 miles range. I don’t car because I’m an EV tech and I own a shop. Later I will probably upgrade it to a higher capacity from the 24Kw. For Now I’m just using it to go from my house to the shop and run a few errands.
12 years later, electric cars may not yet be mainstream but almost all car manufacturers make more than one model of EV and you see at least one every time you go out
You have to be crazy to think gas stations will be gone soon. Can you imagine traveling long distance with an electric car and after only 79miles, you have to charge it for 8 HOURS??? I don't have the patience.
Just think with the leaf you only get 25 mile range. These cars are a piece. They have air cooled battery garbage it gets to hot while driving normally it gets overheated while charging and that is huge on the degradation of the battery
In Australia, this car sells for A$57,900, plus an additional charge for home wiring by Origin Energy. There are 6 charging stations in all of Sydney and no government rebate. There are no charging stations in Wollongong. Guess our government only pays lip service to going green! I have test driven the car - it is great. But at 2.6 times the US pricing it doesn't make sense.
cause the sq foot area of the roof is way to small to make a sensible impact on the range it would add, and the mini turbines will add a drag thats bigger than the added charge...thats why not......
Now let me tell you something: In winter I wear a thick jumper instead of turning up heat. I use my bike instead of my car as often as possible. Just to name two examples on what I DO - in contrary to those people who SAY they care. But, I still don't care because in 200 or 300 years it won't matter. It never has. It never will.
for the people on the comments: do you own one? would you recommend buying one? for what reasons? I am considering buying one. any comments would be much appreciated.
Average miles per charge is 58 miles. Too low. For charging, you need at least a Level 2 charging station. But if you want under 1 hour of charging, then you need a Level 3 (DC Fast Charging).
Yes, that's the big disadvantage of pure EVs. For now. It's too expensive as a commuter car and if you go long distances, you'll need a backup car. Does that make sense? I guess it's not all about that, it's also enjoying electric drive. Even it doesn't financially make sense.
@WesSeid You don't hear of millions of tons of coal being spilt in the ocean at least. Nor do you have to refine it. (There's a reason why refineries are often built next to power stations). I could go on.
By the way, Tesla Model S has a .22 drag coefficient and it looks so much better. The base model has 160 mile range, costs $57400 before the $7500 tax credit, 0-60 in 6.5 sec., and 74.1 cubic feet of space! That is not a misprint. Overall, Tesla has the best electric technology in the industry. Congrats Nissan. GO TESLA!
How is this an extremely expensive car? $35-39,000 is not a lot. It is a semi-luxury experience, In a hatchback! What kind of hatch do you know that has as many cool features? This car does 99mpg equivalent. It is very smooth and quiet, and the seats are very comfortable. This car also feels zippy. Sitting inside it, one just feels good. All these features are worth paying for. All in all, it is a well built, well engineered, useful car. I have personally driven it, and it is quite nice.
drives well but needs 200 mile range like tesla or range extender small wankel engine unit like coming electric mazda 2 will have that extends 80 mile to 300, if Nissan had this 300 range extender people would jump on it like there was no tomorrow
Subsidies bring the price down to $25k, and there are plenty of very popular cars at that price and higher. But they burn $2000 worth of gas in a year while this uses about $300 worth of electricity. It's problem is that it's ugly. Save your pennies for a Tesla Model S and smoke your friend's Mustang in the quarter mile.
extremely expensive for now...with our economy being in shambles and getting worse by the day, who can afford such a car? Wait until the price drops below 20,000 which is more reasonable , then buy. By the way, the tax credit is NOT a refund off the price of the car, you just pay tax on $25000 rather than $33000 ...do not confuse this with a refund of $ 7500. The way this is presented is misleading.
If people Hopefully Smart up, and all this poisen in our food dont dum us down, there is no need for a electric car like this. You just power your car with Cold fusion, or many other possobilities. They want a system where we still pay and be slave to them, and hopefully people are more interesting than that...
I bought a used 2011 Nissan Leaf this summer after being with no vehicle for 8 months, bumming rides when gas was 5$ a gallon.I did not do much research like I should have because I had to go out of town for the car about 150-200 miles away. The seller was not upfront with the battery life and how many miles I was going to have to get home.It was a total nightmare and 24 hours of hell before I was going back home.I cranked up the A/C and watched the miles plummet on the Interstate.Crying, freaking out and had to be towed twice to get home from Dallas.I thought I had made the worst decision of my life! After the first disaster of getting the car home, I was thinking about it and I don't go out of town.I certainly will not be able to in this first edition 2011 Leaf with 150,000 miles on it.I am now completely thrilled about the car! I just want to get to town and go to the Dollar Store and get groceries and then go somewhere else and not pay for it.I get only 60 avg miles with an overnight charge. That is all I need and now I am giving people rides in my rural area for free.I have not had any trouble with it at all since home.I love it and love passing by the gas stations. It is the best car that I have ever owned. It is so pretty and drives like a dream,a spaceship 🚀,I don't regret it at all for $7000.
Theres nothing wrong with our economy, people who say there is something wrong with the economy is whats bringing our economy down by not contributing to the economy. The only way to get the economy back "up" is to FUEL IT. The Leaf is the same price as a car its size in Petrol. The 7,5000 is IN FACT a TAX refund. True, you only pay taxes on the price of the car less 9,500 (including CA incentive) but you do see that back when you file taxes and tell your tax man/woman that you bought an EV.
While drivers in regions with a lot of fossil fuel power will not cut emissions as much as drivers in regions with a lot of clean energy power plants, no matter where someone lives in the US, driving an EV is cleaner than driving a gasoline-powered car, according to an analysis by the Union of Concerned Scientists, “State of Charge: Electric Vehicles’ Global Warming Emissions and Fuel Cost Savings Across the United States.”

So only 100 miles then you have to recharge it?
@@MatthewPacheco Yea. At this point in time, the problems are visible. However, in time, the range flaws might get worked out.

As the range increases, this car will sell in droves
12 years later, electric cars may not yet be mainstream but almost all car manufacturers make more than one model of EV and you see at least one every time you go out
So you are 100 miles from home and you have to wait 8 hours at the electric pump before you can go home?
No. Because you thought about your trip way ahead of time and made a feasible plan to make the trip.
@@brianbarrett192 that feasible plan would have to include you waiting 8 hours before going home….
And how are you 100 miles away from home with this car??
Lol I love how in 2011 nobody knew what rapid charging was gonna become
You have to be crazy to think gas stations will be gone soon. Can you imagine traveling long distance with an electric car and after only 79miles, you have to charge it for 8 HOURS???

Why us charging so long ? I really want one but the charging stops me. Are there some that are both gas and electric ?

he said 3 dollars a gallon... its 2022 now and its 6 dollars a gallon.
bro looks like he's from gears of war. went from fighting the horde to a reporter.

Actually, coal power provides only 35% of US electricity these days now that clean natural gas is cheap.
for the people on the comments:
do you own one? would you recommend buying one? for what reasons?
I am considering buying one. any comments would be much appreciated.
I also am thinking of buying one now for my first car lol
@techblaze_photography8366 did you? I'm thinking about doing the same
It’s 11 years later. Nothings changed. 20 hours for 100 miles was ridiculous then. It’s absurd now.
Not true lmao
good review man
Is this car better than Toyota Spirit 2011 hybrid?

What are the trunk opening dimensions in height and width in inches 2011 Nissan leaf SV Hatchback 4D?

@Tysto I agree. I want a Tesla model s or an x suv. The future is now.
@WesSeid You don't hear of millions of tons of coal being spilt in the ocean at least. Nor do you have to refine it. (There's a reason why refineries are often built next to power stations). I could go on.
EVs and that sort really aren't that cheap, the costs of saving petrol won't weigh up the purchase price.
It's for the mere fun driving electric.
Does this come with gasoline option?
😂
Still cleaner and more efficient than combustion engine - remember it takes dirty energy to make more dirty energy!

saving the plane also
The Leaf needs to be recharged with electricity. What does the U.S. get 50% of its electricity from?
4:40 I miss these gas prices
yes i meant planet and you should care

If you are road tripping with an EV you can't afford to sleep in it with out chpt
