good video and job my grand father planted locus post over 90 years ago and 3 are still left. it you keep them coated they may last 20 years. take care, be safe and well.
Bless you two youngsters. I started watching to learn about sawmillin’ and am still watching. Why? Easy. It’s because you two are a counseling session for those of us longing for the days when couples worked TOGETHER to capture THEIR dreams; a time sadly departed. How I long for folks to return from the land of empty insides, cosmetically covered in the temporary “commercially leased facades” offered by an endless array of retailers. Keep on, keepin’ on Tyler and Brittany.
I cut some post like that and used my large speed square to set the 45 degree angle on bunks, I like the custom straps it gives it an old blacksmithing look. Good to see no one is freaking out about putting a little oil back in the ground. Looks like what we call post oak. Looks great.
Just a thought on the 45 degree cuts... Position the cant close to where you want it. Using a simple torpedo level ( a short 6" or 12" level ), position it vertically to align up with the points. When the level is set this way, you have the 45 degree cut setup. Rinse and repeat. Or, you can use a speed square and the torpedo level to set other varriations. You'll figure it out - :D
I thought the plan would have been two posts in ground one bar across and with neck and arm holes cut out then a bar on across... with a lock that only Miss Britt has the key to ... love the progress you are making
Put a plastic bag around preserved wood so you don’t get it on you! Push the bag to the bottom of the hole and cover it in concrete. But you did a good job of the tie hitch have fun guys!
Good morning to you both I may live in Alaska but I truly love horses got to go ride with a rodeo Champion up in Yost Utah but I enjoy watching your Sawmill work of course our Sawmill here is a rotary blade like you have I have built houses with Lumber mini houses and I just want to say that was really cool what you did with that log
Tyler, that hitching post looks great but you should have used paint. That motor oil will not dry and it will come off on the ropes and anything else that touches it.
You're talking about your granddad digging utility pole holes by hand. I have a long cleanout spoon for scooping the loose dirt out of the holes. It is old, and I have no idea what it would be worth if anything. It was at our previous house when we moved in, and I brought it with us when we moved.
if that is white oak and it was cut at wright time of yr then it will last upwards of 20 yrs love videos see mrs brit s tractor has flat tire another project
When you use concrete never fill hole to top with it. It can cause the post to rot at ground level. Fence posts will usually rot or rust off within 3 inches of top of ground. Fill ING top 6 inches with dirt will let moisture dry out.
That's turning them 45 degrees. 90 is what you normally do for your first turn. OR, you could have just gotten a smaller log and left it round. Thanks for the video.
White oak last a long time in the weather as long as it doesn’t contact the ground. I’m interested in knowing how long the post will last with the oil diesel treatment
It was smart to make it out of white oak... that's the wood they made sailing ships out of - including the USS Constitution "Old Ironsides" warship. White oak has a filled cell structure that doesn't absorb moisture, and it will last for a very long time in the ground. If you had made it out of red oak, which has an open cell structure that will suck up moisture from the ground like a straw and rot quickly, you'd be lucky to get more than 5 years out of it. I predict those posts will last for as long as you need them to!
For of I was thinking about that I think I would've burnt it n I thinking the horses won't like the smell of that oil n diesel of diesel doesn't evaporate like gas
I made a hitching post for my 2 mules ant was not that fancyhink think they cared one way or the other , that it was made of 4” sq. Tubing. It was not that long, maybe 6’, long those mules liked it just fine, I don’ t think that they cared one way or the other, BUT THEY WERE JUST MULES..
I watched a video on another channel about how you met and became Husband and Wife. High School Sweethearts, just like I married mine, RIP 2017 after almost 47 years of marriage. Cherish what you have and have a long and successful life. P.S. I think you looked better without the beard from your HS pictures. Jus' Sayin'.
I'm that old guy in Alaska and my ex lives in N. Carolina. I was wondering if ya all had ever been to Apex N. Carolina and if its a area in this horrible hurricane area. I pray for all them who's lives are now changed forever with so much loss of life and animals that were someones pride and loved one. Entire areas washed away including probably old cemeteries that are say two hundred years old. This country started on our oceans coast line and now no longer a place where people even think about it in the same way. Our worthless president laying on a beach up in Vermont while people suffer sadly. Oh I won't get started on how disappointed I am in this current office so elected. Errr! I pray this never happens in your areas where rain in levels of a foot or more in twenty four hours takes everything you own away. Like the octagon hitch rail and for a fair guess should last ten years with a coat of oil maybe in say four or five years from now again. I like using hydraulic oil as it doesn't spell as bad and washes off with soap tons easier. Should you ever get nasty sticky black grease in your hair... you seen the stuff they used on equipment to keep stuff sliding for years and it repelled water well?? Yeah, that stuff, and so as a heavy duty equipment mechanic.... ya got it on all of yer body. Not to worry one bit. Either transmission or hydraulic oil worked into the hair and skin will take off the nasty by just it mixing and wash off with soap and water... no loss of hair, no blisters from scrubbing yer heart out. Might just want to remember it as someday yer a going to thank me should ya remember it
Buddy, you better check your facts. You say that Biden was laying on a beach in Vermont during the storm? You've been listening to too much of trump bullshit.
Awesome job well done guys that turned out very well and it will last as long as it’s supposed to my friend 😅 Hey Tyler I was wondering I don’t know how far away your water is from your mill But was just wondering if it’s worth to take your excavator and put in a water line to your mill ???? Is it feasible???? Or no ….. just a suggestion my friend And if it never freezes just make a furrow with the plow and lay it in that and kick the furrow back over and it’s all covered …….just wondering sir thanks for sharing take care god bless
Looks good Tyler and Brittany . I truly love watching you two . Y’all look good together.
Thanks for watching along!

That hitching post is great just like Mrs. Brittany

Good luck with the new post. Thanks again for the great work.
Looks great! Good idea Britney! LOL
Great job!!! Roy Rogers and Trigger would have been proud to hitch up there!!!!
I think it looks really good and think it should last at least 6-7 years.
Hey guy look good great project thank you
Nice job. It looks great and it surely is sturdy. Best I have seen.
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching!
Tyler mate you have the Star of David on the front of your garage, cheers buddy
I think your "black" hitching rail will look great in front of that big red barn with white trim!
That baby will last at least 9 years and 3 months. Nice build.
Outstanding hitching post.
Thanks!
I bought a pressure treated landscaping timber in 1988 for my mailbox post. Buried one end in ground, no concrete. Still in service.
You are so good, in the Army we said, build it using the “Field Expedient Method” as you all have done. Looks good.
I thought the plan would have been two posts in ground one bar across and with neck and arm holes cut out then a bar on across... with a lock that only Miss Britt has the key to ... love the progress you are making
❤❤

As long as yall happy with it then that’s all that matters
Nice work guys,another great video!👍🏻
Never would have thought about that. Might have to get a little creative, with my Woodland Mills saw.
Try it!
Looking good
Very nice hitching post.
Ten years or better is my guess on how long it's going to last. Awesome job, looks good.
We shall see! Thanks for watching along!
I think that angle to cut the corners is called oblique or octegon . I guess you had it right all along It is really neat.
I would have use Cedar. Good for life. Good luck. Love you guys
Cedar never rots.
We need more projects completed for the Mrs. Brit numbnails!!! LoL! A+ guys!!! 👍🏻👍🏻😎😎😎
Great great job !

LOOKS GOOD
My lazy behind was waiting for the auger... 😅Turned out great and things are really taking shape with all of your work.
Auger was out of gas so I dove in to work!
Looks great 👍 good job 👍 thanks for sharing !!
you did good
looks migty fine love you guys
Outstanding you both
Tyler, that hitching post looks great but you should have used paint. That motor oil will not dry and it will come off on the ropes and anything else that touches it.
Looking good.
Nice work 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
in the oriental countries it is called Shoo Shuggie bon they have structures that have lasted hundreds of thousands of years
You're talking about your granddad digging utility pole holes by hand. I have a long cleanout spoon for scooping the loose dirt out of the holes. It is old, and I have no idea what it would be worth if anything. It was at our previous house when we moved in, and I brought it with us when we moved.
Nice hitching post . Seeya
You're making a stop sign (octagon)!
Looks good
I like it
if that is white oak and it was cut at wright time of yr then it will last upwards of 20 yrs love videos see mrs brit s tractor has flat tire another project
Succes!
Try spelling it right. success.
I have complete confidence that hitching post will last 20 years.
You should use dome headed screws
If you made it from cedar or Osage orange post it still be there for your great grandkids
Trimming off the bark your white oak will only last half of its use
When you use concrete never fill hole to top with it. It can cause the post to rot at ground level. Fence posts will usually rot or rust off within 3 inches of top of ground. Fill ING top 6 inches with dirt will let moisture dry out.
So much easier to add the dry concrete to the hole then pour in some water. So much easier.
I wanna see the horses 🐎 please! 😂😊
Soon! Barn taking all my time.
That's turning them 45 degrees. 90 is what you normally do for your first turn. OR, you could have just gotten a smaller log and left it round. Thanks for the video.
What about doing the "Shou sugi ban" burning the end of the wood to preserve it?
Some of the Amish up here have some pretty fancy hitching rails.
I have seen some down our way!
God I hate cooler weather!!!!!!
She looks good to be 100
12:15 Get an auger for your tractor. Much faster making holes.
Doesn't help keep you in shape though! LOL we do need one!
Shou Sugi Ban and then oil? Give it a try.
That’s 45 degrees.
12 years easy
Looks good to me. Probably last many many years if you treat it yearly with that mixture.
We plan to!
White oak last a long time in the weather as long as it doesn’t contact the ground. I’m interested in knowing how long the post will last with the oil diesel treatment
15 years
8 sided like a stop sign.
45 degrees
15+ yrs

Looks good but I do have a question. What will the oil and fuel do to the horses if they chew on it?
They wont be chewing on this. Will only be used when saddling and harnassing. Not leaving them there unattended.
One question. What about the oily surface, will it rub off on your hands? Looks good.
For of I was thinking about that I think I would've burnt it n I thinking the horses won't like the smell of that oil n diesel of diesel doesn't evaporate like gas
If you got a weed burner torch and burned the surface of the wood the wood would last forever with no rot and no termites.

💪🪚🔨👍😊
Never buy a post hole digger without having wife see if handle fits her hand ...
🤣
There is a product that is much better than cement for setting poles, easier, better for the wood, and stronger
8 years, 3 months, 14 days...lol.
fantistic
Square peg in a round hole
Boiled linseed oil.
It'll last 11 years 4 months 8 days give or take 3 years. 🤣🤣🤣
Not quite equal I am afraid folks
seal it every couple of year and it will out last you
Should last 12-15 years.
Sounds good to me!
Treat it before you install any timber
