I have shot this mic out against several LDCs on acoustic guitar, and, in each case, it was always the smoothest and most natural sounding. Your sound is great with this mic. Great job and guitar playing. Thanks for sharing.
Great review, thanks! I would like to ask about mono and stereo recordings. When to record a string instrument in mono and when in stereo, please? Thanks for your lights!
Hi! Call me a noob if you'd like, but i don't get what the hz-button is doing. I couldn't really notice any difference between your recordings. is it removing the frequencies above or below the chosen value?
musicfromakido happy to call you a noob! Just kidding. It removes unnecessary low end. For instance, basically all of this demo until he engaged the filter at 160hz was too boomy and boxy sounding. That 160hz demo was very nice. Everything else was a bit muddy. Not the players fault or the microphones fault. Mixing engineers will almost always cut at 80-120hz on guitars so it doesn’t sound boomy/boxy/muddy, etc. or interfere with actual bass instruments.
Happy to help. It may feel like cheating, but sometimes it’s easier to hear the difference when you know what you’re listening for specifically. That’s especially true when you have untrained ears, which I largely also have myself. I bet if you listen again you will hear the difference easily. It’s pretty obvious even with Apple earbuds.
have the AKG C414b-uls and I want to start using to mic my mandolin with..It has the switches on the front and back...I know the gold side you would point to mandolin. It seems like both sides are picking up basically the black side which would be pointed towards the audience. What setting would you use to make it where the gold side picks up mandolin and other side picks up nothing. Also black side has 0-10-20 dB choice and 0.75.150 hz what would be the setting to use on each and on gold side which of the 4 choices would I use? I need a condenser and this is what I have now and I would appreciate any feedback on mixing mandolin with this mic.. Please Share with anyone who is good with sound and familiar with AKG Microphone
Hi, have you had a chance to use Neumann TLM 102, and then if yes, how would you compare with AKG from this test? I am searching for a good mic for voice (male, female, choir kid) and cello as main use, then guitar, cajon... AKG with all those patterns and pads appears to be more versatile - but does it really count? Thanks! Great review BTW!
Haven‘t tried the TLM 102 so far, so can‘t say how they compare. However, the AKG is a very nice multi-purpose microphone and works on a lot of sources. I use it for voice, guitar, violin and even percussion like shakers and tambourin.
It saves the last used mode and recalls that when you turn it on. So it depends what was used. You can also lock a setting by pressing an arrow key for 2 seconds, so it can’t be reseted accidentally. Handy if you always use this mic in a fixed installation or something.
@@ZedMartyProduction Ok, thanks; and what is the first mode of the mic from the very beginning? I had this mic some years ago and I had no idea about the lock function. I switched from the first mode to the last one. So, which is the first mode initially?
O meu também foi feito na Hungria. Mine was also made in Hungary. I got in touch with AKG, and I asked why it is not made in Austria, and they replied that AKG in Austria closed. They are now made in Hungary. I really like that microphone. Here in Brazil, the creator of Bossa Nova only presented with a C414.
You should have somebody check your information before you post the video. If "signal-to-noise ratio" is "low" as you said, that means it's actually a noisy microphone with low output, which seems to be the exact opposite of what you meant.
I'm listening on Sony 7506s, and it sounds too boxy. I would suggest putting the great mic into a different position, at the very least. The mic sounds great, and so does the guitar, but think about the sentence before this one. Once you started the Floyd stuff, it was not really doing that as much as it had been, but whatever, dude.
Both your voice, and guitar have a bit too much low end, for my ears. it's kind of below the boxiness range, I guess. Good to know, I have a bunch of these to be using, and it's nice to jnow what to expect
This mic is known for its neutral frequency response, its pretty flat over the whole spectrum. Depending on the instrument you might have to add some high end later on. But it is a handy „workhorse“ mic because you can use it on nearly any source!
Your guitar playing is awesome.
There's nothing like have a review by someone who can actually play. Great review, thank you so much.
Thank you! You‘re welcome!
This microphone is a masterpiece. Legendary work horse

I like the Omni mode for the guitar - that sounds pretty good
+Lasse Storgaard Jacobsen Yes indeed!
This is a fantastic microphone for acoustic guitar. In many ways it’s all you need in life for your home studio.
I love this mic, I had a previous incarnation of this mic that 'disappeared'
Your setup really looks like it's for serious work. appealing.
I have the AKG C214, and it's still a great mic. A lot less money than the C414, but it still delivers great performance, in my opinion.
Thanks for a very good reference. I was wondering which to buy, C214 or C414, and now have decided to take this one.
Nice clear review. Excellant mic.
Great review, thanks!

this is a good demo, thanks man

how do you like the creme eq/compessor? can you do a video of the creme on just vocals?
Hi maybe I misheard, What preamplifier do you use for this test?

Wich akg is better for live perfomances?
Very helpful video, thanks!
Hi! Great video, what guitar is this?

Hello, - what is the first mode, which it turned on as soon as you feed this mic? "O" or "8"? Thanks

hm good question! I think it is the Omni, but not 100% sure.
@@ZedMartyProduction Is it possible for you to reset the settings and see what is the initial position of the LED indicator?
Sounds killer…
no.1 mic ❤
What model is the acoustic?
kkkfts Recording King RO-07
good sound!! excellent!!
What's your console?
That was my old Behringer MX8000.
does the mic have usb cable
No, standard XLR
This mic is too old for USB, you need RS-232 interface.
Why did you choose the XLS over the others?
+PJ Jackson It‘s a very flat microphone, so I can use it on quite a lot of sources.

Oh right, thanks for the input! I meant it has a really low self-noise.
Keep uploading more videos my friend :)

@Club Soda What's tripping you up?
Hm, not impressed with this mic on the acoustic guitar to be honest. Pretty muddy. Could actually use some high end.

so many minutes wasted on opening the box ....... get right to it!!!
Well, just skip forward...?
