    The Leica cameras use this to help focus. It throws me off a little too since I shoot only in manual. So the camera goes to the "corect" exposure when it has to focus. That's why you don't see it in manual focus or auto modes. Not much to do about it, apart from taking out live view entirely.

    On my SL2-S if I manually set the ISO, I experience that same issue. If I set it instead to auto ISO, it stops changing the view when half-pressing the shutter button. Other than that, make sure your live view is in PASM, and unless you need it, turn off Enhanced Live View. That might take care of the issue.

    On Lumix cameras there is an option called "constant preview". Anything like that on the Leica?

      @@edjefferson9175 not that I know of but that is the first I have heard of such a setting. I’ll take a second look and make sure. Thank you!

    My SL2S does not do this. What metering are you using? The only way I can replicate this is if I put my camera into any sort of autofocus. If I actually turn off AF by clicking the knob on my sigmas or turning the AF setting to MF to use my SL lens it does not change adjustment like that.
    You can bind a button to be exposure lock. clicking that would lock the exposure and separate the exposure from the shutter all together. That's what I've done on my Q2.

    Totally agree this is a huge problem that Leica (and Panasonic - their cameras do this too) needs to fix. Also the people saying this is fixable using settings are wrong - it can't be fixed currently.

      It can be fixed. Mine does not do that except under one circumstance. When I'm underexposed the viewfinder will light up when focusing but, just like on the R5, that is to aid the auto focus.

    Yes I have experienced the same thing on the SL3 and Q3. On the Q2 I always used to shoot manual and did not experience this. On the Q3 the issue improved slightly after some firmware upgrades.

    sounds like the "expose preview" which can be switched from "P-A-S" to "P-A-S-M", i.e. it can be disabled for manual mode. (this is different than "enhanced live view")

    • @constantinephotography5287

      That was one of the first settings I played with. There are others that have shown this. It’s not an “error”…the exposure image you get matches the sensor metered exposure if you don’t have the camera in manual.

    Thank you for making this video!!! I’m frustrated by this same thing! It’s even more challenging if you shoot with AF-C and tracking while half pressing the shutter. Your subject will stay underexposed until you full press. It’s a major hindrance seeing your subjects face.
    Have you submitted a request to Leica? I’m hoping the more folks do this they will prioritize a fix.

    • @constantinephotography5287

  • @cmolina31

    It really doesn’t bother me. I just take as what it is, an exposure preview. This is how it’s going to be if I fully press the shutter.

  • @arkon6084
    @arkon6084 4 місяці тому

    Does it mean that your manual settings are NOT correct? The preview helps you to make corrections that are needed to get what you want. I think if this is the case then it is a good feature. Am I correct or not?

    • @constantinephotography5287
      @constantinephotography5287 4 місяці тому

      The preview on the screen changes when you half press the shutter but that exposure metering is accurate and shows the right settings. The preview is the one that fluctuates. It shows what I’m assuming is that Auto exposed image. Then you half press and it shows the one you shot.

    • @nasaAttackDog
      @nasaAttackDog 3 місяці тому +1

      You might be correct. The camera doesn’t know you are shooting a backlit scene. So when you half-press the shutter it’s showing you what the meter thinks the exposure should be even though the user may have added additional exposure before half-pressing the shutter button.

      @@constantinephotography5287 I'm playing around with settings now. I know I ran across this issue. Quick question. You do have enhanced live view OFF, correct? If on, turn it off and see if that fixes the issue. It's the setting at the bottom of the page 5 menu on your SL3

    You're obviously an experienced photographer, therefore I'm a little surprised at you feeling put off by this. Having identified the phenomenon, it seems to me that the only solution is to allow for it. I think we can all agree that there is no such thing as a perfect camera and indeed, does anybody want a camera which does everything for them? (Perhaps a sports photographer who photographs fast action does.) The only thing I can think of is to use spot metering and meter off the bit of the subject which you want precisely exposed.

    • @constantinephotography5287
      @constantinephotography5287 4 місяці тому +1

      I wouldn’t say “put off”…it’s a complaint because I’m not sure if it’s on purpose or if there is a way to change the setting. I understand that the preview is trying your show me…I just would rather not have it.

    Using the SL3 here. I have enhanced live view off. I am in Manual and I have the meter in the middle and the effect is very minimal. If I am say +/- 1 the effect is pretty dramatic. I am playing with the modes to see what I can come up with. In manual i wonder if it’s something to do with the exposure meter or exposure mode? I am using highlight weighted.

    • @constantinephotography5287
      @constantinephotography5287 Місяць тому +1

      The best I can come up with is that the preview shows the perfectly exposed image based on the metering you choose. The image that I recorded is the preview before you click the shutter. I’m going to see if you use back button focusing if this may be a different way to workaround it. Either way I’m used to it and it’s not a deal breaker or a flaw. Just something I work like to toggle on or off.
