I looked into this after you mentioned it in the last video. That Hack a Brute site is pretty cool! I don't have a Minibrute, but there's Microbrute information there as well, and HOLY CRAP there's schematics and board layouts! With blessings from Arturia!!!!! Seriously, I thought the schematics were cool, but when I noticed they actually have board layout files to make it easy to figure out where all of the components in the schematics are located, that is some quality information right there! Most companies try to hide this stuff away from you, and I'm really glad that Arturia has given the go ahead to make such valuable information available! I am an Arturia fan for life because of that! Allowing users to change firmware on otherwise identical models is really awesome, too. I will always support companies that go out of their way to support users. Adding vocoder functionality to the Microfreak is awesome! If you don't need the white case, the microphone itself is like $29 I think, so you can still save a bit of money by buying the original and mic separately. Cool! I totally agree with you about the step sequencer vs an arpeggiator. Much more flexible and useful! I look forward to the next video!

@@_DRMR_ As someone who owns a Roland D-20 and has used Steinberg's Synthworks for the Atari ST to program it via emulator, I can't really sympathize that much for Linux users. Windows PCs are all over the place, there's really no excuse for not having one around to do whatever you need to do.
@@rars0n Sorry what does this have to do with the Atari ST again? And I have plenty of excuses to not have a Windows machine just for some stupid software that won't function in wine. The Arturia MCC software actually does run and all the buttons are clickable, but it has a stupid midi implementation so it's completely non-functional. It's 99% of the way there but their devs just dropped the ball at the last second. That's just sloppy. Now I need to stop my entire software stack, bind-mount the device I want to edit, start a windows vm just for this piece of software, make whatever changes I made (while puking in my mouth a little because it feels so dirty), then go back .. before I can continue my work. This is just stupid. And since their midi-implementation docs are so fucking terrible I was actually looking at intercepting the midi messages using wireshark and writing my own software based on that. Meanwhile I can run all kinds of editor/librarian software from the 90s just fine, that would probably break on win10 these days. So yay for shitty support and broken compatibility.

I had mine for about three years now and always regretted a little bit not getting the microbrute, the arp is cool but I'd rather have a sequencer on the synth, now this is a game changer! Really appreciate your channel, great stuff!!
Thanks for sharing this. I only just managed to get this to work on mine. It doesn't seem to work over the din midi in for some reason, only the usb midi connection. Plus make sure you use the "MiniBrute" port not "MIDIOUT (MiniBrute)" because that doesn't work either. I've only had mine a couple of weeks but this seems a lot more fun that the Arpeggiator and I can even use it as a sequence for some eurorack gear which is nice 👌 Made a little laminated overlay too like a proper nerd 😄
AudioPilz you are forgiven after your bad video "bad gear Minibrute". As an Arturia fan boy, I'm pleased that you mentioned not to push too much the oscillators faders . And thank you to remind me that I could change my basic arpeggiator into a nice step sequencer.
i love watching better gear because i know i'll never get the opportunity to try these out lol, great videos as always, it's weird how simple it is to activate, makes you wonder why they didn't put it like the uno synth does it(you change what the arpegiator knobs or buttons do to sequencer related stuff with the push of a button)
The only time I use an arpeggiator is when I don't have a sequencer handy. I just got a MicroFreak and you can save the random arps as sequences! Nice vid!
Good stuff. Didn't know the Minibrute could be updated. Good tip on the softer tones, too. I guess a lot of people don't know that the oscillator levels go from 0 to 200%, not 0 to 100%. So on the Minibrute, mid-slider is full volume, while on the Microbrute, turning the knob straight up to the 12 o'clock position is full volume. However, it can keep going to about 5 o'clock to reach maximum overdrive. One other oddity: I don't know about the Mini, but on the Micro, the line-in knob seems to go from 0 to like... 400% maybe? Perhaps even 600%? When it's all the way up, it overpowers everything else, even if everything is maxed out.
I knew about this when I bought it new but never tried it - in the end I also got a MicroBrute SE with that feature and a little patch bay 😀 - then I got the MatrixBrute as well on sale
Very cool -- I'll keep this in mind if I ever end up doing something with the synth that could benefit. As for right now I think all my playing with different time signatures and rhythms would probably make this type of thing a bit counterproductive...
It's headphone jack is disgustingly noisy; unacceptably so. Otherwise it's quite nice. The flack it get's for it's keyboard is undeserved: it's essentially another LFO with the right mindset.
Does the sequencer not transpose depending on the note you play? Man, that is the awesomest thing about the microbrute! Making crazy 5th baselines and being able to transpose them as you play chords or a melody with you other hand is great.
iOS users should take a look at the MIDIBrute app by Kai Aras. Simply connect your iPhone or iPad via USB to the MiniBrute or MiniBrute SE and take control over much more features than just the Arp/Seq switch, like MIDI channel and clock. Arturia did a good job to include the arp AND seq their newer models.
great hack but a bit risky (?) btw i also have the microbrute and the wolf how do i connect the wolf to the mini btute i mean using old midi cables ? sorry for that question but nowdays i am thinking to leave DAW and work without a software sequencer so i either need connect synths and drum machins directly or get out of the closet my ancient roland mc 50 mk 1 for some only hardware composing ! and if you decide to apply the hack i guess you loose the arpeggiator and you get the sequencer instead right ?

The SH-101 sequencer is so easy and great to use and I had no idea that the Minibrute had such a sequencer! I need to know though, is this permanent, meaning after power off and back on, the sequencer is still available? It doesn't get undone? Do you lose any other functionality, in replacement of the sequencer, or is it literally a bonus, with no set backs? Thanks so much for sharing!
The sequencer replaces the arpeggiator, it stays after you turned off the unit but you can reset it to the initial state by sending another sysex string
@@AudioPilz something else I just picked up, I use the midi sequencer app on my ipad as it is great to and simple to use with velocity, and so now converted the mini brute back to an arpegiator
I might have an idea for a bad gear challenge: Boss DS-330 , old soundcanvas style GM midi module. it has effects and can be split into 16 parts (like beatstep pro could run 4 sequencers into it) or many parts can be stacked on the same channel for drones and bass or pads, BUT it is a crap GM module complete with gunshots and helicopter.
Naughty naughty, but nice, as mr Kipling almost said 🤠 Arturia make the Duracell of synths; you'll get more mileage out of them than you'd have expected.

I think you have to set one of them to midi slave (and you probably need the Arturia software for that if it's the Brute)

I hate the microbrute sequencer.first i got that korg sq-1. it's kind of cool but then i got the td-3 and can control it with the cv outs.
