For real. I'll sit through dry-as-hell demos and tutorials of synths and drum machines, sure. It's what I'm into, so I have the patience to sit though a boring video so long as there's a remote chance of it containing some information that I want. AudioPilz's vids, on the other hand, are absolutely chock full of rewatch value. Platinum level, S Tier rewatch value.

    • @t0xcn253

@@matthewlister3755 Couldnt agree more! UA-cam is awash with wooden, monotone synth players wasting the viewer's time before giving a half-hearted demo that leaves out most of the functions anyway. Audiopilz is special, not only for his commendable thoroughness in reviewing the full range of features and potential for his gear, but just as much for being a genuinely funny and creative presenter with (gasp!) an ACTUAL PERSONALITY. The man's a unicorn.

    • @inthefade

@@matthewlister3755 it's true they even have rewatch value, which is weird for synthesizer reviews... And it isn't even new gear that I'm curious about.

I looked into this after you mentioned it in the last video. That Hack a Brute site is pretty cool! I don't have a Minibrute, but there's Microbrute information there as well, and HOLY CRAP there's schematics and board layouts! With blessings from Arturia!!!!!
Seriously, I thought the schematics were cool, but when I noticed they actually have board layout files to make it easy to figure out where all of the components in the schematics are located, that is some quality information right there! Most companies try to hide this stuff away from you, and I'm really glad that Arturia has given the go ahead to make such valuable information available! I am an Arturia fan for life because of that!
Allowing users to change firmware on otherwise identical models is really awesome, too. I will always support companies that go out of their way to support users. Adding vocoder functionality to the Microfreak is awesome! If you don't need the white case, the microphone itself is like $29 I think, so you can still save a bit of money by buying the original and mic separately. Cool!
I totally agree with you about the step sequencer vs an arpeggiator. Much more flexible and useful! I look forward to the next video!

If only their software was cross platform or at least would work in wine.

@@_DRMR_ As someone who owns a Roland D-20 and has used Steinberg's Synthworks for the Atari ST to program it via emulator, I can't really sympathize that much for Linux users. @@rars0n Sorry what does this have to do with the Atari ST again?
And I have plenty of excuses to not have a Windows machine just for some stupid software that won't function in wine. The Arturia MCC software actually does run and all the buttons are clickable, but it has a stupid midi implementation so it's completely non-functional. It's 99% of the way there but their devs just dropped the ball at the last second. That's just sloppy.
Now I need to stop my entire software stack, bind-mount the device I want to edit, start a windows vm just for this piece of software, make whatever changes I made (while puking in my mouth a little because it feels so dirty), then go back .. before I can continue my work. This is just stupid.
And since their midi-implementation docs are so fucking terrible I was actually looking at intercepting the midi messages using wireshark and writing my own software based on that.
Meanwhile I can run all kinds of editor/librarian software from the 90s just fine, that would probably break on win10 these days. So yay for shitty support and broken compatibility.

I've only had mine a couple of weeks but this seems a lot more fun that the Arpeggiator and I can even use it as a sequence for some eurorack gear which is nice 👌 Made a little laminated overlay too like a proper nerd 😄

  • @ToyKeeper
    @ToyKeeper 4 роки тому +1

Good stuff. Didn't know the Minibrute could be updated.
Good tip on the softer tones, too. I guess a lot of people don't know that the oscillator levels go from 0 to 200%, not 0 to 100%. So on the Minibrute, mid-slider is full volume, while on the Microbrute, turning the knob straight up to the 12 o'clock position is full volume. However, it can keep going to about 5 o'clock to reach maximum overdrive.
One other oddity: I don't know about the Mini, but on the Micro, the line-in knob seems to go from 0 to like... 400% maybe? Perhaps even 600%? When it's all the way up, it overpowers everything else, even if everything is maxed out.
