SECRETS - WHY THERE ARE NONE!
Looking for a secret or a quick fix is the Holy Grail of golf. Every person who has been considered to be the best of his era was thought to have a secret. Hogan's perceived secret has been discussed for almost 70 years.
In THE GOLF DIGEST CLINIC section of the May 1984 issue, tilted, SEARCHING FOR THE SECRET OF GOLF, the following was written:
Among history’s more fascinating quests are the Fountain of Youth, the Holy Grail and a Northwest Passage. These noble efforts don’t even come close to the thinking, physical effort and money that have been devoted by millions to the search for the Secret of Golf.
We thought maybe we had found it several years ago in the book Zen in Golf. The secret was to exhale on the downswing, as they do in karate chopping. There still may be some merit in this one-even some tour¬ing pros gave it a brief trial-but learning to synchronize the grunt with one’s swing is probably for people who have first mastered cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Then there was the man who wrote to GOLF DIGEST back in the late 1960s to report that he had, in deed, found the secret. The letters were numerous and voluminous but vague. Finally, the editors decided to give him an audience if he wanted to fly cross-country at his expense to our Connecticut offices.
He arrived unannounced on our doorstep. He wanted the magazine to publish his secret but refused to reveal it until legal documents had been drawn guaranteeing a suitable financial agreement.
We could not make such a guarantee. After all, his secret might be part of an article we already had in house or even on press.
He finally did reveal it to a room filled with expectant editors and corporate officials. The word ‘expectant proved to be appropriate. The secret involved tilting one’s pelvis during impact at the precise angle that, the man claimed, all women arrive at during childbirth.
Arriving at this precise angle, however, also required that the pelvis be at precise angles of various specified degrees at address and at various stages of the swing. Since none of us could even duplicate the correct angling at address, let alone change precisely from stage to stage, we politely sent the man along his way with his copy of Gray’s Anatomy in hand.

Some take secrets very seriously - believing that they exist.
Some are as funny as the CHILDBIRTH position.
The childbirth theory is a good scientific theory. It can be tested. Since no man seems to be able to get into this position, it fails and must be abandoned.

Current knowledge available in neuroscience books shows how the brain controls motion. With this information, it is easy to make the following statements:
    • The brain programs millions of instructions and carries them out according to a set plan - ACTS (circuits).
    • No one movement can ever make a golf stroke effective.
    • One incorrect movement can produce undesirable results.
The MOTION, FEAR and TASK FOCUS sections explained how the brain functions.
    • There are no secret moves in golf because brain circuits do not work that way.
    • NO SECRETS exist in the brain.
    • Stop looking for a secret.
    There are none.

I've come to believe that Hogan just said that to scare competition.Just purely based off of Hogan telling Jackie Burke off when Jackie was helping new players at the range.

Selling Secrets and Tips keeps the golf magazines in business. The are very good at marketing false hopes; you are just one tip away from finding your true potential.
