- Ambassador Chas W. Freeman, Jr. is a senior fellow at Brown University's Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, a former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense, ambassador to Saudi Arabia (during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm), acting Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, and Chargé d'affaires at both Bangkok and Beijing. He began his diplomatic career in India but specialized in Chinese affairs. (He was the principal American interpreter during President Nixon's visit to Beijing in 1972.)
Ambassador Freeman is a much sought-after public speaker (see chasfreeman.net) and the author of several well-received books on statecraft and diplomacy. His most recent book, "America's Continuing Misadventures in the Middle East" was published in May 2016. "Interesting Times: China, America, and the Shifting Balance of Prestige," appeared in March 2013. "America’s Misadventures in the Middle East" came out in 2010, as did the most recent revision of "The Diplomat’s Dictionary," the companion volume to "Arts of Power: Statecraft and Diplomacy." He was the editor of the Encyclopedia Britannica entry on "diplomacy."
Freeman is a former U.S. assistant secretary of defense, ambassador to Saudi Arabia, principal deputy assistant secretary of state for African affairs, chargé d’affaires a.i. at Bangkok and Beijing, acting U.S. commissioner for refugee affairs and director of program coordination and development at the U.S. Information Agency. He was the principal American interpreter during the late President Nixon’s 1972 opening of U.S. relations with China.
Chas Freeman studied at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and Taiwan and earned an A.B. magna cum laude from Yale University as well as a J.D. from the Harvard Law School. He chairs Projects International, Inc., a Washington-based firm that for more than three decades has helped its American and foreign clients create ventures across borders, facilitating their establishment of new businesses through the design, negotiation, capitalization, and implementation of greenfield investments, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, franchises, one-off transactions, sales and agencies in other countries.
This man has great wit along with great intelligence. Rare in western govts today.
Half wits here in Australia
The ambassador is intelligent and has excellent characteristic traits, ethical, integrity, etc.
So good to see and hear from Ambassador Freeman.
Beside the high quality of the program, I do also appreciate very much the good manners of the host and the guests. It is really a pleasure to see that good manners are still important to some people. Interactions between people are difficult. Good manners is a way to facilite them
exceedingly important and equally ignored
Yeah. Much better than judge napolitano. He’s always interrupting middle through his guest tries to make a point
Good manners are the true indicator of a great civilisation. That’s why they are so scarce in Western diplomacy & media
Always insightful. How we went from the likes of an Ambassador Freeman to blinken is sad
Never a wasted moment of your time listening Chas Freeman
Instead of arming Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan; US tax payer money should be spent on infrastructure, healthcare, education, homelessness...
A world of synergy, with win² not merely win + win.
We need to listen to these two well educated, wise people after the clown show of a debate. I agree with Ambassador Freeman 100%
"a competitive press conference, not a debate" Absolute gold. Thank you Sir!!
We always learn something new listening to Amb Freeman.
Greetings from South Africa! 🇿🇦❤️🇿🇦❤️🇿🇦❤️
Greetings back from germany 🫡
Always a pleasure to hear fmr Ambassador Freeman speak. He thinks about every question before giving us full answers.
Besides Mr. Freeman was an US official i trust him.
Ty Nima for having him on your podcast❤
Great show as always
Incredible what has changed in a couple decades i wouldn't expect to find anyone honest and trustworthy in USG in the upper levels where sir charles was, not many anyways.
Amb. Freeman is my favorite guest of yours, Nima. Thank you. 🌹🌹
Mine too 👍
Greetings from Australia
This man is extremely knowledgeable ,level headed and has big brains. Experience rules.
Chas Freeman for president 2024 !!
waking-up youngs generation could help more to remove the vomitic Blinken' chaos as "chienlit" (crest waves are more visible, when underneath currents are more powerfull).
Chas Freeman " ….One reason. Another is the US election. They don't want Mr. Trump a cause he can use to win that election so I think they're very cautious... " This is a brilliant analysis by Chas Freeman.
Nuland gives off such a creepy creepy vibe, like the hobbler in Stephen King's Misery. She was one of the main instigators of the unrest in Maidan where she was handing out cookies to the protesters while being the assistant secretary of state.
I wait patiently for this interview. Hands down one of the wisest, Mr Chas Freeman
Superb guest.
Great information in this discussion
Thank God for Chas Freeman puncturing the lies of the psychopathic neocon liar, Nuland.
Thank you, gentlemen! 🙏🏻💪🙏🏻
Amb. Freeman is always rational and sensible.
Thanks Nima
Love Ambassador Freeman
Thank you Nima
God Bless you
Chas Freeman has it all on point! He lives up to what his name aspires to be!
Excellent interview, very informative and knowledgeable. Nima,I never miss any of your videos because you always have superb guests and ask in-depth questions.
Outstanding interview.
Chas freeman should be president
Lloyd Austin isn’t the sharpest tool in the box is he?
No he’s not …. but not as blunt as our 🇬🇧 Boris Johnson .
Antisemitism
@@uncleshamus3451 what is?
Probably why they gave him the job😂
He's just the face of the defense department. He has no responsibilities.
Chas is a wonderful man to educate us on these disasters.
I love Ambassador Freeman! 💚💚🥹💪🏼
Ambassador Freeman obviates that there are solutions to all our foreign policy problems but we ignore them. We would rather risk our own prosperity than give up trying to kneecap our competitors.
Mr. Freeman, your time is so precious to all of us, but your humble spirit is incapable of saving No, to every invitation.
Best articulation of Istanbul to date. Thank you both.
Thank you from Germany ❤
"If you wish to colonize a land in which people are already living, you must provide a garrison for the land, or find a benefactor who will maintain the garrison on your behalf. ... Zionism is a colonizing adventure and, therefore, it stands or falls on the question of armed forces." (Expulsion Of The Palestinians, p. 45)" - Ze'ev (Zeev) Jabotinsky, early Zionist leader.
A sickening ideology
@@Penny-em2csIndeed. The chosen ones are evil. Destined for eternal hellfire.
If only Ambassador Freeman was our Secretary of State, America would be so much better off. A diplomat with a beautiful calm and thoughtful demeanor.
Our corrupt corporate media won't talk about any of this.
You have great guests mima ❤
Excellent
The united states is runn8ng outnof patience. The people do not want war. We have an economy to focus on.
The only economy the US is interested in is that of the Military Industrial Complex.
The axis of resistance isn't taking the bait.
God bless you Ambassador Freeman
God bless you Nima
You gentlemen are keeping us informed on all this madness and helping us understand it all

Yes, Putin will make the simple and right decision to leave Ukraine after two years of tough fighting and holding a winning position. What part of reality, Secretary Austen, are you in touch with?
William Deere, a UNRWA official based in Washington, DC, said Israel’s war on Gaza “has absolutely no bottom to it” after the killing of six of the agency’s staff in the attack on al-Jaouni school.
“Six colleagues lost today, that brings the death toll among UNRWA staff in this conflict to 220, which is the highest ever in United Nations history,” Deere told Al Jazeera.
“Our staff are on the front lines, and they’re not going to back down, they’re not going to stop doing their job,” he added.

I'm a bit confused. Taiwan is a part of China, & recognized by America as being so. So then, why should America have aircraft carriers in the Pacific? What right does America have to meddle in the relations between Taiwan & the rest of China? It doesn't make any sense to me.
They’re American. Lol
The "hegemon" has changed his mind. Now he is no longer satisfied with this, he helps with rearmament and is now seen as a protector, he provokes. Apparently China has become too powerful and the only thing the Americans are really good at is sanctions, regime change, false flag operations, war, sometimes in reverse order.

I'm asking the same question. We agreed that Taiwan was a part of China back in the 1970's. I'm not sure what's going on now.
The American Empire claims uni-polar global domain. The fools based order.
Actually lots of the Israelis who’s been displaced are not ready to go back home because they see how dangerous it still is. They’re complaining to Netanyahu but not because they’d go back right away or at all.

Long Live Russia!
Long Live All Russians!

Long Live Iran!
How valid would it be for Russia to sign any kind of agreement with someone who is no longer a valid president of Ukraine?
👍👍
There is no end to the humiliation of the German People, and Hollywood has kept this alive way beyond its expiration date!
The truth of the matter is that the only threat to the U.S is due to its own aggressive behaviour.
It started before WWI.
The USA/NATO would have really been castrated with this agreement, hence the “advice” to keep fighting.
One doesn't even want to think about how many people could still be alive if this agreement had been bindingly signed.
Not to mention the number of lives ruined for the disabled, as well as the trauma for all their relatives and family members. All for the maniacal quest to rule the world by the few.
It seems that everyone is restrained except Israel.
Nuland prevaricated, as usual. The Istanbul Communiqué included the US and UK as co-guarantors of a permanently neutral, de-militarized and probably more 'federal' Ukraine. The US would not accept that. Thus, neither did the UK. It follows that proceeding with further, more detailed negotiations between Ukraine and the RF would be futule. So, the Bucha and Irpin malarkey was concocted and the negotiations were declared over.
38:50 What happened to the right of people for self determination?
Could it be that Iran is holding because Russia has asked it to and perhaps pointed out waiting is the best strategy. To sweeten the wait which is surely a bitter pill for the Iranians, Russia is strengthening Iran's position in myriad ways. It will be interesting to see what happens after BRICS assuming things stay relatively calm until then.
At 49:38: (The deal that was negotiated in March-April in Istanbul in 2022 did not fall apart, as Victoria ("Fuck the EU") Nuland has claimed.) Actually it was pulled apart by Boris Johnson acting for the US and the UK. And that was reported at the time (Naftali Bennett). Of course from the Russian point of view the whole point was to ensure that there was no military threat from Ukraine. That was the purpose of neutralizing Ukraine, not having it as a member of NATO. So when she says neutered Ukraine the assumption that she is preceding from is that it was somehow good for Ukraine to pose the sort of military threat to Russia that it now does (as NATO has built up an army in Ukraine since the illegal US backed coup took place in 2014). One of the great ironies of the moment is that the invasion of Kursk, the firing of missiles and drones deep into Russia including killing somebody in a suburb of Moscow, this illustrates that if Ukraine is part of NATO, which it is for all practical purposes other than Article 5 commitments at the moment, that this is indeed a real threat to Russia. And just as the US would not tolerate Mexico allying with China against us, the Russians understandably will not tolerate Ukraine being part of an anti-Russian alliance, especially an alliance which has ceased (ended) to be defensive but is now on the offense (attacking), it has been on the offense (attacking) in various places, Afghanistan which is not part of Europe the last time I looked, Libya (in Africa), and before that of course Serbia and Kosovo. So the Russian view is pretty clear, and they are all willing to negotiate. If the Ukrainians found it (the war) unbearable they could have made that decision (to end it) on their own. ~ Chas Freeman
The framing of the questions sometimes are too mainstream western - BSW is not "far left".
Lloyd Austin would have made better school bus driver
As he is a disaster as secretary of " defence"
It's in China's best interest to follow the ASEAN way in its policy towards Taiwan. And since the global majority is working on a consensus model, a military approach is even more unlikely
Does Washington want to arrange something like sumo wrestling for China in Southeast Asia?
51:40 "Afghanistan is now part of Europe.." Is this a mistake from the speaker?!

He missed the important part: Ukraine wouldn't be able to buy all those fancy American weapons if it signed the treaty.
Fancy ? It was out dates surplus junk.
Austin should have an israeli flag behind him as well as American.
US military spokesmen are pathetic. The Ukraine war could end even faster if USA would "pull its troops" and military out of Ukraine. The US wants every country to follow their "Munroe Doctrine" principles toward the USA, but feel they should not have to follow the same non-meddling policies towards other countries like Russia.
Dude it would be nice if you introduce the guests and give give some context about them.
It's all there under the heading

Iranian missiles...really...sounds like he talks for natanyahoo, who is looking to invade Iran. So absurd.
