  • It was the busy time of year on the fishing line, and Arther was having difficulties keeping up. Late one evening, Arther was rocketing down the coastal line. The fishermen were late coming into the port, leaving the poor engine to make up time. Henry was most annoyed with his timing, "what time do you call this youngin?" "It's not my fault" huffed Arthur, "the bad weather held them up." A crack of thunder filled the air. Its sound waves pierce the engine's smoke boxes. "I recommend getting home before this hits the island," said Henry as a worried expression crossed his face. Arthur hurriedly shunted his vans onto Henry's train before the green engine departed.
Arthur set out moments later with a train of empty vans. The storm picked up as he reached the coastal track. The wind bucketed the maroon engine. Suddenly, a large gust of wind bellowed onto Arthur’s train, sending a van to its side! "Oh, not NOW!" With nothing else to do, he had to stop. The guard, driver, and fireman abandoned the train to find a signal box. It was exceedingly against regulations for the entire crew to leave a train, but they didn’t care. As they walked away, Arthur felt that they wouldn't be returning, not soon, anyway. A lighthouse stood tall and bright somewhere behind him.
"HOOOOOOOONK!" Screened a distant ship! Arthur looked over in a panic. A cargo ship was barreling towards the shoreline! Arthur blew his whistle as loud as he could. There was no response; the wind had carried the sound far away. "It might not be able to see the lighthouse yet." But it continued until he was almost positive that it would have been able to see the light. As it grew closer and closer, Arthur realised something. The ship wasn't just heading toward the coast; it was getting straight toward him! "STOP, STOP, STOP!" Arthur blew his whistle again, but the storm deviously ate the sound. The ship crunched on the sand, but it didn't stop there. Arthur braced for the impact. But he never received it. He looked over to find nothing there. The sand was untouched, and there was no ship in sight.
Duck came the following morning with the breakdown train. They re-railed the van, and Arthur continued on his way. When he arrived at the fishing village, he helped repair the damages. Then, he spent the rest of the day in the shed. Arthur never told anyone of his experience. He thinks that the other engines will laugh. But we know what really happened, don’t we?
