  • Remember making sugar cookies with cookie cutters?!
Well, in this lesson I will show you how to use a Photoshop shape like a cookie cutter. This technique will will allow you to cut out shapes in whatever pattern, texture, photo, or Photoshop dough you may have. It's great for digital art journals, scrapbooks, or whatever.
Check it out.... and please don't eat your final product! :)

This is certainly exciting and very versatile. It makes me want to try photoshop! Do you have any other easy suggestions for experimenting with Photoshop for the first time?

Thanks for your comment. Sorry to take so long to respond. Since I had comments turned off, I couldn't figure out how to respond. Just goes to show what a complete NEWBIE I am. Ha ha!! -- In Answer to your great question. Because Photoshop is such a hefty program. I suggest that first timers just explore what tools are available first, by hovering over the tool bar on the left and reading each tool tip. Then explore a few of the drawing and painting tools first -- such as the Paintbrush and Pencil. Beyond that they will need to understand the Layers Panel -- or else they will immediately get stuck. So second, open the Layers panel under the Window menu. Click some other tool - like a shape or text and notice how it creates a NEW layer. To move forward and use other tools it is important to be on the layer that you want to effect -- otherwise they won't work. THEN once you know that explore the tools to your hearts content and make a mess! If you get stuck, check what layer you are on. Then move forward.
