I'm living in the fishing nation of Norway and I never understand why private fishing in the sea is regulated or require a license in other countries. It is the commercial fishing that is the problem, not the fishing for private use.
@@gavinlennox You can solve that in different ways so the authorities can regulate that. In Norway we have a law that only commercial fishing are allowed to sell fish. This way you can catch as much as you want, but only for private use and not reselling. I guess this also has pros and cons, but this way regular people are never bothered with inspections, licenses etc. when sea fishing.
In Florida we have so many people who own boats and fish we also can adversely impact different species. I’ve been fishing here for 55 years and I’ve seen species almost completely fished out and then bounce back with regulations, most of the time the refs help.
Don't blame the fish cop he is doing what he can, get your state and federal reps to crack down the regulations on the commercial boats. But they're all owned by the corps so that will never happen

We were throwing our catches into the same bucket, me and one other guy, and the agent told us we had to have our fish separate. Luckily we hadn't hit the limit for one of us yet, but he just let us go with a warning. Crazy dumb shit, really.
This is a thing. I got a ticket once upon a time ago for giving someone a snook. We were fishing together and I had my one keeper. Hooked another and he netted it. It looks like another keeper and I offered for him to keep it. Didn't go over well with FWC but I didn't know any better.
The wildlife officers seem reasonable. Reading comments is kinda amazing to me. Most people are wasteful and dont respect wildlife enough. I commercial fish by the way and regulations are needed and I appreciate those who enforce them.
I dont know why people see this as negative. Experts suggest a limit based on survey to conserve stock's. These fisherman respect the limits and the these guys enforce the limits. What pisses me off is the fisherman that ignore the limits

Reduced the catch for recreational. Nothing on commercial. Within just a couple of years , you couldn't get baits down to grouper because of all the red snappers . More now than ever.

On the west coast lots of lobster and abalone poaching goes on. In Freshwater lakes people are caught dragging nets in them. If they don't check these small guys poaching becomes out of control.

Stop complaining guys. Regulations are for the good of the species to prevent extinction and missing links out of the food chain. Slot size and limit are important because they keep the fish we enjoy plentiful. The repercussions a shortage of one species in an area could affect many different fish and making sure they’re slot size is making sure they’ll be around to catch later

All of my conservation officer interactions have been positive in Michigan. They are usually fishing and hunting enthusiasts themselves.

Stop complaining guys. Regulations are for the good of the species to prevent extinction and missing links out of the food chain. Slot size and limit are important because they keep the fish we enjoy plentiful. The repercussions a shortage of one species in an area could affect many different fish and making sure they’re slot size is making sure they’ll be around to catch later
Maybe if we enforced laws for commercial fishing first before we worried about nickle and diming charters and private recreational? Go look at a doppler of the waters north of Gallapagos and stfu and do something about THAT

Whether they are followed is another matter. I know if you’ve done any fishing you have seen Chinese with way too many fish, +100 of ALL sizes even dragging nets in lakes. We have to do our best to offset the damage and hope that they are caught
