Another advantage of the Graphgear 500- The Clip can actually be removed completely, to make the smooth experience for Artists. However, I feel if you're aiming for Longevity, the 1000 is simply the most bang for your buck. The Retractable Tip is really a Game Changer compared to 500.
Phantom Thief I agree to some extent but having used a graphgear 500 for a while now, the chances of it bending are very low. I’ve dropped it several times and it still works fine. Just keep it in a case and you’ve got a more accurate pencil with a low chance of bending
You need to be careful and gentle with the retracting mechanism in order for it to last. Otherwise if it breaks the pencil won't work anymore They made a big mistake by making the retracting mechanism implemented in the clip like that. They should've just used a normal double clutch mechanism. But it's still a nice pencil
I have the 1000 in 0.5mm and 0.7mm and i agree with the weight argument. I think that's the only issue I have with the pencil. The 1000 needs the balance point to be more lower.
The GraphGear 500 is far superior to the 1000. Better weight distribution, better (and not ugly) knurling on the grip, less moving parts, and somehow it feels more solid. The GraphGear feels flimsy, it's ugly as heck (the bumps on the grip and the clip) and its weight feels wrong. Its only advantage is the retracting tip.
I also prefer the grip of the 500. The 1000 has better features, but those features don't matter if the pencil slides around in your hand when you write, in my opinion. Since you like the 500, I would recommend that you check out the Alvin Draft/Matic, which is the closest modern equivalent to the Koh-I-Noor Rapidomatic. You could also just look for a vintage Rapidomatic. They are both an "upgrade" on the 500, even though they have similar features. If you like "sharp" knurling, they are the standard.
If I had to choose only one, I would choose the 500!!! That being said, I'm ok with either a Pentel Sharp P200 or even with a Faber Castel TK-Fine Executive! Both are great for drawing or writting and you don't have to pay more, for a mechanical pencil, In my opinion ofcourse.
LOL, I have yet to acquired a Pentel Twist Erase GT. I will try to find one on sale and do a comparison as soon as possible! Thanks for watching and if you want to watch more pencil reviews, please subscribe. Thanks!
I got one of these as part of a gift, but I'm not a hand drafter so I didn't know how it worked exactly. As a CADD Drafter I really don't draw things out.
Looking on Amazon and I found the P1015A and P1015. The latter is 2 bucks cheaper and looks the exact same. Do you know if they're the same, or are there any differences I should be aware of?
Thank you for the video. Am planning to buy both 0.9 and 0.7 mm pencil, so that I want to use this on a dialy basis. My worry is that the leads are a bit highly priced. and i "dont like" to us 0.5mm since, the writing comes out very thin when compared to thick ones which i like when am writing with it. so that question is 1. Can i buy Staedtler Mars or Camlin 0.7mm or 0.9mm lead for Graph Gear 1000? will there be any different in writing? 2. How does HB,B etc setting work? Do i need to buy different variations of pencil leads? Can you please explain?
The B, HB. etc is the lead hardness indicator. Although most leads come in HB, leads are also available from 4H to 4B, albeit at a higher price. The H leads are very light and scratchy, but they are good for sketching. The B leads are dark but smears easily. If you are use to .7 and .9 you should try .5 in a slightly darker lead hardness, such as 2B. That way the lines will be still as dark as .7 but not as scratchy as HB .5 lead. Thanks you so much for watching my video!
I have the 1000 and I love it. However, I cannot figure out how to use the entire eraser - it is encased in a metal clamp-like device. Has anyone figured out how to advance the eraser?
the 500 writes very well. i personally just dont like the way it feels overall. the inner barrel is wobbly so it makes a noise when you move it. it just feels "cheap"
She is right when she says the 500 is better than the 1000 though. The 500 may not be as nice looking but its more practical and is better for writing and drawing. The 1000 is simply just really heavy
I have a graphgear 500 and don't like it for some reasons. 1 - the grip area is not comfortable and its height makes the hands to get tired; 2 - the lead tube shaking makes me mad! sincerely, I prefer the standard Pentel p205 than the others "advanced" models.
From your response saying the you liked your graphgear 500, then you should try the Uni Shift or if you have a bit more money to splurge, the Rotring 600. Both have rough knurling like the ones on the 500.
+Gabriel Johnson I have a lot of favorite mechanical pencils. I think my favorite drafting pencil is probably Pilot's S Series, like the S3. I also like the Pentel Sharp Kerry a lot. Stay tuned for those reviews! Thanks for watching.
H and B aren't lead sizes, they're lead hardness...
The GraphGear 1000 is one sweet looking drafting pencil. Its looks really stand out.
Another advantage of the Graphgear 500-

i have both cuz my 500’s tip got bent so i found out about the 1000 and just got that one cuz it was on sale
@Hashira. _art 500 tbh

@Hashira. _art I have both. 500 is more confortable. Tip oriented weight.

wow, it turns out this pencil has been around since 2015. I'm going to buy it next month, hope this helps. I feel very proud.

very true . . . i also like to remove the clip from the 500 for drawing, which can't be done on the 1000.
True, the weight distribution/center of gravity on the 500 is far superior than the 1000
I also prefer the grip of the 500. The 1000 has better features, but those features don't matter if the pencil slides around in your hand when you write, in my opinion. Didn't expect to see you here.
When you said they were an upgrade on the 500 I thought you were talking about the Rotring 500. I was about to go on a tangent
I love the 500 i actually use it for drawing and random drawings. My writing pencil is the kuru toga roulette
Good comparison. Very helpful for me to decide which to purchase.
Any tips on how to clean the handle on the GraphGear 500 ? After 4 years of use, mine is getting dark and yellow-ish.
My Graph Gear 500 fell on its tip. It "sinked". Is there a way to fix it?
I don't think so
if by sunk you mean bent then you'll have to get a new one
Hi
If bent, maybe you can try to fix it by bending it back? Worked for my bent Graphgear 800. Otherwise, just get a new one.
I think he meant that the tip literally retrcacted
Hulu Noctis yea that’s what I was thinking
You think you could do one on the pentel twist erase gt vs twist erase 3?
LOL, I have yet to acquired a Pentel Twist Erase GT. I will try to find one on sale and do a comparison as soon as possible! Thanks for watching and if you want to watch more pencil reviews, please subscribe. Thanks!
Thank you! I'm going to buy the Pentel Graphgear 500! :3 When I save up money, perhaps I'll buy 1000.

Good video really enjoyed it more people should make these type of videos
It's clearer that she was super biased because of the way she pressed harder on the 1000 to make it seem like it was rougher
It’s a guy lol. I think
Thanks for this.
I was gonna get the 1000 but now I'll get the 500 instead
Thank you for the video.

I also push it up but I use the tip to slide it
Sane
I highly recommend the rOtring 800 or 800+ if you can find a good, working model without problems. Well worth the price tag!
Not at all
Metal on the outside plastic on the inside
the 500 writes very well. i personally just dont like the way it feels overall. the inner barrel is wobbly so it makes a noise when you move it. it just feels "cheap"
ButWhatMotive not mine. but it may be the size it holds? the tube holding the lead shakes? I only have the the. 9 mm Graphgear 500

nice, I have both of those
Do u still have em?
does the graphgear 1000 can really changes the lead hardness/thickness?
It has a lead hardness indicator. It's useful to tell what type of lead you have in the pencil. Doesn't change lead thickness though
Kawauka hee i see.. thanks for the info:D
