This is interesting, as tanpura is one of the major instrument for Dhrupad. So much so the exponents like Dagar Brothers, they used to choose the raaga after they had listened to the Tanpura sound. Their singing sullables are derived from the mandra : "om antaran twam, taran taaran twam, ananta hari narayan om"
I find it very interesting that this deep droning sound is similar to the didgeridoo and also Mongolian/Tibetan throat singing. It seems that cultures worldwide have found these frequencies to be a great assistance to spiritual experience.

Amazing,. Heart touching,, Powerful. Wonderful. Beautiful. Terrific. Outstanding. A classic Excellent. A winner. These are some of the words that come to mind whenever I hear this MASTERPIECE. This is definitely the BEST ever. Thank You for uploading this GREAT video.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Of the Bharatiya classical instruments, Tanpura is one which intrigues me the most in spite of being an absolute novice when it comes to music. In other stringed instruments such as sitar, veena, santoor etc. , the plucking of strings can be perceived, however the music of tanpura is like the gentle flow of a stream, without any breaks. It is not possible to perceive the plucking of strings of tanpura. Could someone please explain to me why or how it happens ?
my wild guess is that there are a couple of factors at play: firstly, the finger or thumb is used which does not have the sharp and quick attack of a plectrum (you can hear at the beginning of this video, a subtle inital pluck); and second, the density of overtones (which sounds to be quite substantial with this instrument) makes it hard to hear any of the subsequent plucks, once the strings are moving. this reminds me of a series of hits on a loud crash cymbal, where the stick definition is lost in a sea of noise.

This helped me before interview ..and now i cracked the interview 🙂 trust me it works
Music will be like NA RA YA NA OOOOOMM
Really, it sounds like Naa Ra Yàn
Its like namo narayana
The note has many overtones, so it sounds like all of those syllables simultaneously.
The sound of "NA RA YA NA" is very evidently heard after listening to for some time! Divine!!!
