There are Blacks from other cultures that come to the Dakotas for job opportunities and to visit, in North Dakota there is a Haitian population, so being questioned where she is from is not exactly racist. I'm a road traveler, and sometimes I'm asked where I'm from. I'm a brother from SC, btw.

The locals probably aren't asking other white people where they're REALLY from. I'm guessing tone plays a large part too, however, we'll never know how these things were said.

@Bella N Being from SC, I was raised in NYC, worked there for 20 years, and I was always asked where I was from, being that NYC is a melting pot of cultures. I'm an AA, and people still thought l was Nigerian, Dominican, Ghanaian, Haitian, etc, but I was never offended. In fact, I liked to see the surprise when I told them I'm originally Southern. I don't have a Southern accent and I have a conservative look, so I understood why people were curious about me.

I’m AA. I live in California and I’m asked where I’m from all the time. I can’t speak on her personal experience living there but I can imagine how it would be a culture shock for her.

@@GReid-ol5gk It's not racist to ask someone where they're from. I've literally never heard anyone ask that question in a derogatory manner. I have however had black friends who saw racism around every corner, and typically it was just a product of their paranoia. For my part, I'm fucking sick of talking about race. People are different colors. Get over it.

She seems a little entitled. My Mother was a single working Mother never once got rewarded by any community not even the one she was a teacher in for 40 years and she was a Native American so I don't see anything different with this woman. But if you all need a plaque hung on the wall for all your hard work. I personally think my mother needs a statue of her at the school she taught children at but all she might get is a gravestone. So don't let your right hand know what your left is doing. Just live the best you can.

I want to travel but it’s sad that as a black person we have to deal with this then they wonder why so many of us just get to the point where we “don’t care” and that’s still from an outsider’s looking in perspective. Like why do I have to deal with this and be the bigger person but there are still known “sun down” states. Ima tell yall like this. I like COD😂play wit me then I have to keep my hands to myself when YALL get disrespectful?? I’ll go to jail somebody gotta show yall to stop fw us !! Period the law was created to keep one group of people protected from things and the other group excluded and punished for things even if it has nothinggggg to do with yall. Yall will take what’s not yours say it is then hide behind a law that you’ve created if not already made and you don’t have to think twice abt it cus your white 🤠

It’s just ironic that these basic messages of humanity and "learning experiences" are being brought up, given the horrific native history of the state of South Dakota. It’s as if, over time, the settlers truly wanted to erase all notion of non-white, non-"American" people. Now they have an 85% white populace in Sioux Falls, who act as if they’ve never seen a black person before…
