Love your analysis! Will's portrayal of Max is amazing, one of my favourite details is that Will could have easily taken the "guy has a bad home life and takes it out on other kids and that's the one and only reason he sucks" route. I have nothing against the trope, it just happens a lot (especially with Disney making their villains sympathetic or creating sad backstories for preexisting villains). Because at the Waylon Place we get the line "Where Max? Back home so dad can call you a little cuck?", but Max doesn't feel like everything he does is because of his dad. Yes his home life is implied to be difficult and that affects his behaviour, but he's still an asshole with something of a God complex who takes any excuse to mess up (and later end) the lives of people he doesn't like. And it works, it's believable. That's a tough needle to thread and it makes Will's performance even better
@@thebugthatruinsyourpicnic you put it into words exactly!!! i love that max is just a downright awful guy. there’s room for sympathy but he isn’t redeemed or painted in a “good” light, he just gets worse
Clapping and flapping my hands?? I LOVE Max Jägerman and I cannot thank you enough. I really enjoyed watching this and you made so much sense. I’m someone who struggles with explaining and examining characters so I really do appreciate when I find others who have the language to do it. I’ve been calling him endearingly pathetic cause I didn’t know how else to describe him and I loved how you put it into words! I think if he didn’t end up dying he could’ve become an alright dude, his death scene makes me so sad. While I absolutely adore how feral, whimsical and at the same time menacing he becomes.. I wish he got a nice ending. That we got to see more of his past and why he behaves the way he does.
‘endearingly pathetic’ is actually a perfectly description of max lol i would love to see a Nightmare Time or something that delves more into his story because he’s such an interesting character. Glad you enjoyed!!!
That was amazing! Having someone talk about the intricacies of an actors expression and choices that bleed into characterization is just…. So inspiring. I think this just makes starkid and all under that umbrella 100 times more impressive
@@lerin6744 thank you so much! this was my first time actually trying to analyze an acting performance so im very glad to hear that i did it justice. everyone at starkid is SO AMAZING i could make tons of these videos on each of them

Ghost Max reminds me so much of Freddy Krueger, Just the cartoonish goofy evil of Max matches Freddy so much, dk If It was intentional or not tho
