- A tribute to the 19 men who died when the Second Narrows Bridge, which was under construction to connect Vancouver and North Vancouver, suddenly collapsed on June 17, 1958. This video, produced for the BC Labour Heritage Centre, tells the story of the collapse through the voices of several courageous survivors.
I’m an Ironworker in Vancouver and everyone in construction now a days truly stand on the shoulders of giants. They made the biggest sacrifice just so we can work safe. Thank you 🙏
hi iam also an ironworker for almost 50 years now, i use to work with a guy from 97 mike stanley? do you know him, we connected together in espanola ont in 1980
My Dad was working at the site and thankfully, survived. He wasn't on the bridge...he was running one of the tugboats but wasn't under the bridge when it collapsed. He never forgot this experience and lost many friends that day. So very sad...
Each time I ride my bike over this span I stop for a moment to I think of the men who never went home.
My grandmother actually named this bridge, after my great grandfather who died during this tragedy
My father is an Ironworker and he told me this story in bad detail so I had to watch this but looking back I kin of wish I didn't. Such a travesty on all those hard workers
Been apart of most of the improvements of this bridge over the last 15 years. Ive spents yeara under the pavement off that bridge. Seen many names of men from the 60s/70s and newer. 🎉
RIP to all those people.
59 years ago. now there's some history.
My grandfather drove highway truck for 50 years he was on the bridge dropoing off steel at the bridge he was backing up to unload and he jamed the truck into drive and guned it and made it off the bridge my mom told me this story my grandfather died when i was 7 in 2011
Thinking about this... So sad... 😢❤ Stay safe everyone...
Rip their stories are crazy af
I love stompin Toms song to this insadent
Gone but never forgotten 😢❤
I believe that the gussett plate issue were also too thin for the I-35 bridge collapse in Minnesota too. Ugh!.
Get your sh#t together, all you engineers!!!..
... And contractors!!!
.... And tax payers!!!
I'm thankful that the Civil Engineering Society has red flagged the U.S. at a D- though, throughout the States with it's current issues nationwide. That's honest.
It just goes to show that all countries need to solve a HUGE engineering and Infrastructure bill fast!
Thanks Stompin' Tom, and all those Iron dude's who lost their lives tryin to build a bridge, and make a better life for everyone involved with the community. R.I.P.
