asking Klopp to coach USMNT is like asking Einstein if he wants to teach a class of rambunctious teenagers who don't bother to show up for class. getting the best coach we can get is necessary but only the beginning. we need an overhaul of US youth player development. the US needs to comply with FIFA RSTP solidarity payment guidelines just like every other FIFA member.

Agreed. And I really like Cherundolo. He is a brand new manager- how are we trying to do a Gregg pt2- elevate someone after a few seasons to national team level? Let him get reps- learn, grow develop at club level. Its a good way to stall a career-young managers can't grow won't in international game with how few games they get and it ain't an apprenticeship.

One advantage we have is that our place in the World Cup is guaranteed, whereas the African qualifying system is brutal. Currently, Egypt are on track to qualify, but Nigeria are in great danger of missing the tournament. Renard is my pick for the job, of the candidates I think we can realistically get.

@Yahtzee2000 yeah but why would a Jurgen Klopp want to, only national job he'll ever take is possibly Germany, Zidane's another he's told people he'd only consider Marseille (his hometown club), Real Madrid or the French job, elite coaches tend to only want elite clubs/national team, the US is still a project, it's not an elite job, really elite guys like Pep, Klopp, Zidane, etc, are pie in the sky like I said guys on the tier below like Pochettino, Renard, etc are more realistic, if 2026 went well for them, they'd be rewarded and it'll be a boost to their reputation, however the risk is, fall short you might struggle for employment, in an elite league in the future, look at Jose Mourinho 15 years ago, he was constantly one of the best in the world, he had less than incredible spells at Tottenham and Roma and practically no one wanted him, he's had to go to Fenerbache in Turkey for employment, this is a man that once said the Bundesliga was beneath him, things can change

I know he’s not super experienced at the highest level of managing but I feel like his football knowledge is literally infinite. He’s obviously a legend and would immediately garner respect both from our players but from opposing managers and players. He also is familiar with the workings of MLS and what the American soccer. At this point, anyone would be a step up from GB. My only concern is that we hire someone who doesn't have close ties to USSF or the players. The manager should be someone who will select rosters based on merit, and not because they are friends of the manager or USSF. The next manager should be given complete freedom to select the best players for the team.

    Good that you mentioned Morocco.
They played all 7 world Cup matches in 2022 after reaching the Semifinal for the first time even.
That same Moroccan team lot Gregg's USMNT 3-0 in Ohio, with mostly the same Moroccan and US Players. The Same teams months later are at totally different levels... WHY?
    The answer is THE COACH.
After the loss 3-0, when the Moroccan coach got back to Morocco he made some dumb remarked to the Moroccan very very weak national media, but they roasted him for it.
Weeks later the Moroccan Federation FIRED HIM, and replaced him with Local Club Wydad AC Coach, Hoalid Regragui.
Immediately after hiring Hoalid, the communication level between the coach and the Moroccan Players and the Media skyrocketed to the top, and it became very clear that the Ambitions and the output where on different levels, while under the outgoing coach Vahid Halilozitch.
That said, everybody around the Moroccan national team started believing that we can do something special, just by applying some American Sports principals such as GRIT for 90 Minute.
As we all saw the Moroccans handled Croatia without losing site of the overall goal which was to go very far in the tournament but not to just defeat a European Soccer power like Croatia. After the tie in that match the Moroccans went on to defeat Belgium 2-0 and Canada 2-1.
The rest is history as they defeated Spain in Penalties and Portugal in 90.
So, the lesson is.. I think.. the USMNT did not have the right Coach in Gregg Berhalter.
Maybe that same Young USMNT team with a better Coach should havev won couple of knock out stage matches, Gregg Berhalter is not that type of Coach and maybe it's the fault of the US FAN base that accepts to a certain degree some level of mediocrocity.
I believe if the USMNT Coach was someone like Hoalid Regragui (and there tons of them in Europe especially) we would have been able to reach the Quarter Finals or Even the Semi Finals.
It is not about getting a good result in a friendly against a big team.
It's about having the right identitiy during the World Cup Tournament.
Gregg would not have resolved that problem had he sayed on as USMNT Coach.
We need a USMNT Coach that doesn't fear any opponent, but one that knows how to prepare his team for any opponent. With the help of the FANS we could see the USMNT in the Final in 2026. Not guaranteed but not impossible either.
The thing is, if you don't believe you will never get there.
And if you don't prepare, then don't waste your time talking about believing.
And also, if you don't have the right coach to prepare you before you believe, that the first mistake you will make to guarantee yourself a continued trip on the road of low expectations.
You have to be both AMBITIOUS and REALISTIC.
You can cheat your way to the top, you have to earn every bit of it.
    Gregg didn't have that thing.

  • @CJBouhlal
    @CJBouhlal Місяць тому

US FANS need to express MORE AMBITION when accepting R16 as a good outcome, that's BS.
A Soccer Program like that of the United States MUST be more ambitious and aim to at least repeat what Bruce Arena achieved in 2002 with is to play the Quarter Finals.
I think the USMNT should have for goal a minimum Quarter Finals if not Semi Finals to continue progressing. And an important question that will demonstrate that there a lots of BS in the conversations around the USMNT.
Why is it that for the USWNT we demand that they win the World Cup..
but for the USMNT we accept only Round of 16 ??????????
There is something Wrong in US Soccer conversationally when you demand from Girls the World Cup but from guys only to get out of the Group.
First of all it doesn't send the right message to US Players in MLS or inside/outside the country.
US Soccer Players who follow what the US FAN base talks about, NEED TO HEAR THE REALISTIC AMBITIONS OF THE US FAN in Small or Big Town.
Do US FANS want or think, the Man should aim to win the World Cup within this cycle or by next two cycles?
So, if it is the Dream of US FAN that their Men National Team Wins the World Cup one day, then the USSF needs to have for Plan something that can make this dream reality.
As long as the US FAN base accepts Round of 16 as a good result, and ignore that that milestone has been crossed in 2002 with Bruce Arena, then it will always be easy for some mediocre coach to get the job and waste a cycle or two doing basically nothing.
To Reach Round of 16 is not a Success for US Soccer, and this opinion must be expressed by the US FAN base, for the higher ups in the USSF to get the message.
Right now they hear one Demand with is: "Round of 16" and they try to produce that product.
They don't hear Realistic Ambitions from the FANS.
You guys as UA-camrs can help in unifying everyone on one message which is to get MORE AMBITIOUS and REALISC AMBITIONS not some Fantasy ideas.
I think if the current USMNT generation is the best ever, then they ought to be able to reach the Semifinals at World Cup 2026. STOP lowering the expectations because the style didn't work.
How can I take seriously the FANs who say current USMNT generation is better than 2002 generation? It makes no sense whatsoever to say R16 is better than Quarter Finals, yet that's exactly what everybody seems to be saying.
Any result in 2026 short of matching Bruce Arena's record of 2002, is a Failure !

The problem with Cherundulo is that he is close to a lot of the players on the USMNT. And I have a feeling that would make the players to comfortable with him. We need a complete reboot of the USMNT, with tryouts for every position. No one should be a locked in starter.

The New USMNT Coach MUST be a Serial Winner as a Coach.
This is pertinent experience for the Job he'll be applying for.
The USMNT needs a Coach who can put together series of wins.
15 Loses in 4 years is not good.
7 losses in 1.5 years is not good.
Especially that the US FAN were led to believe the USMNT is now a great team under Gregg Berhalter. So somebody in the Media was cooking Public Options which is why most fans now don't understands why Gregg became bad suddently.
We should accept that he was never a great Coach, he was only good to a point, then in 2023 he became bad.
Again, for Gregg to have 22 losses in his record with the USMNT, this is terrible actually.
In 5 years and 6 months 22 losses average to 4 losses per year.
You are not a great National Team if you lose 4 matches every year, given that you don't play 30 matches a year as a national team.
The USMNT should not lose more than 2 games per year, preferably zero.
In 2026 we should have a record of ZERO losses, so the new coach has 2025 to fix all problems which is more than enough time.

While not a lot, I have seen Tuchel's name thrown about enough that it's noticeable. At first, I thought to myself, "no way," because he and Pulisic clearly didn't get on. But then, I immediately wised up and thought "Yes, exactly, that's what we need," we need someone to come in and make Pulisic and co uncomfortable. While I do hold Tuchel accountable for what transpired between him and Pulisic at Chelsea, I am beginning to wonder about what role Puli played in all of that. In my opinion, Pulisic seems rather soft, namely (and if for no other reason) due to his endorsements of GGG. Off the bat, that's poor off the field leadership and it's selfishly guarding one's guaranteed role/spot on the team.

    • @UMS-dj3sx
      @UMS-dj3sx Місяць тому

Be realistic. No way in hell would Tuchel even consider taking the US job. It's the US, not Germany, England or some other prestigious country. Getting to live in the US is not a valid argument. If these top tier coaches wanted to live there, they could easily do so because they have the financial means. No need to take a job where you could only lose.
Also and more importantly, he wants to continue his career as a club coach, preferably in England and he will get offers. Tuchel was constantly complaining and ranting about the quality of the players at Bayern during press conferences. His head would probably explode from rage if he had to work with what the USMNT has to offer.

    • @inelhuayocan_aci
      @inelhuayocan_aci Місяць тому

@@UMS-dj3sx I should have been more clear. What I meant was what I attempted but failed to connote in my follow up sentence "we need SOMEONE to come in and make Pulisic and co uncomfortable." Secondly, I think the U.S. job is more appealing than many realize or will admit to. Thirdly, I would not consider England "elite". For one thing, who are they? They've won nothing of note since they hosted WC '66. Most of their elite players are simply overrated hype trains created by the English media and British media at large. Also, what big name has ever coached the Three Lions in the modern era? Erickson was no world beater. England's acclaim is limited to the respective levels of the PL and EFL Championship which comes down to money. Other than that, the national team is all self-promotion.
As for elite managers, I doubt one who'll only work with high-budget players is truly elite. I'm not doubting their prowess or how they got to that level (with few exceptions), but come on. Where's the challenge in that?

MLS experience alone, is NOT enough to achieve great results at the world cup.
Example the problem of TRANSITION from Defense to Offense against Spain...
You don't see anything close to Spain's National Team in the MLS, meaning no MLS coach gets tested not even for minutes on that.
So, maybe you could say a Great MLS Coach who has International Experience..!?
    That could be true.
There is MLS Coaches who played in Europe lets say against Real Madrid of Barcelona etc..
And if you talk to them about the Problem of Fast Transition they would know what they're talking about. That's possible, but where is that coach and where is his CV?
There are Candidates or a one candidate out there.. but who is he?
You need to have enough experience to be able to face Spain or Argentina now, at least on paper but based on Realistic ideas and discussion. If the USMNT needs Faster Stronger Defenders, where are the details to discuss with that Candidate.
The USSF should be able today to go deep in a discussion with the Candidate and base their decision on concrete facts.
To be a former USMNT player and a competent Coach is not enough
Example about what coaches need to believe in before coaching the USMNT.
The US identity of Grit and Refuse to Lose - There is not room for discussing playing beautiful football here. Plus, beautiful football (Soccer) comes when good talented Players who want to represent their country's identity.
Play with GRIT and Fight to Win, everything else will work itself out of the player if that player is really talented. Soccer is not Ballet
