- While visiting Disneyland for Spring Break I fell in love with these "Glow with the Show" Mickey Mouse Ears. At the evening light show the ears light up in synch with the show. The lights are RGB lights and the ears can be controlled separately. I came home and it took a couple of evenings to figure them out, but they are now hacked so I can control them with a remote control.
Awesome! I took a couple sets of the lights and added them to a bag I had in the parks for a WDW trip last december. It was so much fun to see the lights being controlled by the signals during the show. I thought their programming was particularly effective, not just flashing and matching colors with the other show lighting. It occurred to me that you could potentially use an IR sensor with a signal recorder to capture the signals during shows and then replay them at home, which for Disney/technology nerds could be particularly fun synced up to videos of the shows. You're lucky enough to live near the park. I don't know enough about IR signals to accomplish that, but another hacker has successfully accomplished this, but has since decided that the potential for someone to disruptively use that knowledge in the park was too great a risk and has kept that information to himself. There is an official Disney video where they explain the technology better. Each hat has an individual address along with the IR sensor. They also utilize focused IR zones, apparently. Thanks for posting this helpful information and best luck with your further exploration!

You can buy a wand to control it now!
a magic wand
listentoourlights Now John, how were you able to program the ears to sync with the music you were playing. And what did you use to send the IR signals?
This is awesome, my phone has an IR blaster. Im thinking of adding this to another style of mickey ears or other accessory
They should make a app that would change them I know about the wand, but I feel like an app would be better
2:10 Isn't "Cyan" pronounced like "saian" and not kaian? Or is hat optional? Sounds cool!
Awesome would have a party with that......
Cool! Please elaborate on how you connected these to the universal remote.
And now they sell wands that do the same thing
Dude thats awesome
but what was funny was when you said the right ear in blue you didnt know which what right lol!
Great gob this is cool and fun stuff. How did you program in the code to your sequences and how did you send that code to the IR? Thanks for taking the time and making your videos.
if this works with all of these products, the next time you go you could pretty much hack every hat in the show and troll the heck out of everyone there.
Cayenne is a spice, not a color
DeJayHank it cyan
Awesome. You are the whiz kid. Thank You. J.
Awesome. Did you just stumble on a set of codes on the remote? What was the equivalent set? How are you sending commands from your computer and integrating it to your show program?
Great hack! Good luck figuring out how to do the wave. BTW: The correct pronunciation of cyan is \ˈsī-ˌan, -ən\ It's not a pepper. That would be cayenne.
I have the the original set that has the touch sensor switch and a more rugged version of the ears, they are in pieces that are screwed together, would this work with those or is the source code different?
what did you do to make them work syncronized with the music you played?
Nerd! LOL! I love it
How did you do this? What are the codes for a universal remote
THX soo much for sharing im gonna try to do that but i have one question... if i hack it will it still glow with the show at california adventure?
Do they still sell these?
+xurbition yeah but they are a new Diamond Celebration version
Thank you SoCal Theme Parks, love your videos!
