It's scary what you can find out about people based on their social media posts - including their drinking and exercise habits. With just a few tools and techniques you can use Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) to find all kinds of information about people. And it gets worse - someone like Micah can write tools to aggregate that data. Never allow tracking when you post on Social Media. Never overshare. It's just scary what people can find out about you through what you are posting online. // MENU // 00:00 - Introduction 01:31 - Geolocation 03:53 - Twitter Geolocation 09:15 - Geotagging Steve Wozniak 11:20 - Virtual Machine Setup for safety 18:39 - Untapped Website - your drinks are tracking you 21:30 - UntappedScrapper - crazy data manipulation 26:58 - Over Sharing Data 29:30 - Strava - exercise tracking 31:50 - CyberChef - sorting data 34:25 - Github 34:50 - OSINT Curious 39:20 - MyOSINT Training 41:30 - Self-Training options 43:36 - Top 3 OSINT Tools: Obsidian 44:37 - Top 3 OSINT Tools: WhatsMyName.app 45:02 - Top 3 OSINT Tools: VPN 45:53 - Outro // Previous videos // You can't hide: ua-cam.com/video/ImWJgDQ-_ek/v-deo.html OSINT tools to track you down: ua-cam.com/video/OsY32K1s51Y/v-deo.html // Discounts on training // NOTE: I do NOT get any affiliate fee or commission or anything. Since I've created a FB account back in high school, mom always told me not to post anything from a vacation or such in real time, only after return. I listened, but it didn't make much sense to me at the time. Later, someone broke into our apartment and took almost all valuables we had (they left our laptops be). Turned out it was for no particular reason in that specific case, but the chances would be significantly higher if anyone knew for sure that we'd be out of the apartment for several hours. Since then, I try to not post anything easily locatable at all
As per the usual, another great video. I love the OSINT series because the content is important for most people. You don't have to be into cyber security or anything overly technical to take something away from this information. It's good for everyone to have knowledge of OSINT, not just for learning interesting investigative techniques, but also for making people aware of the information they might not realize they're putting out there on the open web. I'm glad I don't have an UNTAPPD account... Micah would be like "This guy drinks alone at his house... a lot..." ha ha. Keep making these great videos and doing what you do!
Great video and very interesting topic. I find it scary to see so many people not taking care of their privacy. I would be very interested in seeing how wearables can expose your privacy (outside the obvious data collection).
This video shows why security, in general, is in such HUGE demand. This data shows a vulnerability at the personal level - tie this in with how companies operate and move and this vulnerability pattern can transfer to the job as well. How can companies handle this?
I like how many creators change their whole titles as well as thumbnails completely, to see which one serves the algorithm better We gotta learn these skills
Re: Geotagging media, as a photographer it is invaluable for work in photography and video. I geotag to save hours locating where photos were taken, what location contracts I need to get signed in order to use those photos commercially, to keep shoots coordinated, and more. Also used for geocaching, hiking and backpacking (photo geotags sometimes work when other features don't)... there are as many reasons TO use it as NOT to use it.
This is why social medias should be national security concern. Innocent people around the world unknowingly sharing all their data to big companies and the US gov. 😨
Man this awesome stuff. This makes you want to sell your house your car have no cell phone and just build a cabin somewhere remote and never show your face again. This is crazy
Geosocial Footprint doesn't seem to be working for me, was interested in running some radius searches around me to warn people posting about crypto that their location is potentially exposed.
I’m very interested in this subject, but living in the U.K. I find a lot of the educational material and tools not so suited. Is there any U.K. routes you could recommend for learning ? Thanks
Occasionally I read a story about someone falsely accused of a crime. Well if you happen NOT to be a criminal and you record all your movements, then you have alibis available for when you have to prove you were not at the scene of a crime. Look up the Juan Catalan story. He got really lucky that his alibi was able to be corroborated, ultimately by his cell phone pings.
the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence and simply because you don't have evidence that something does exist does not mean you have evidence of something that doesn't exist.
In most cases you don’t have to pay Google for their embedded maps (large free tier for a smaller site), but you must register and sign up for a API-connection. Therefore it shows more of a bad webdesigner than an “economic site owner”. 😂
Consider the general population around the *world*. There is a large percentage of people in the world that have no idea about osint or privacy or cybersecurity. Most people live there lives and are happy and have no idea what is going on. Also it is very interesting to me that nobody talks about Banks and credit cards. They of any company know everything about you. Look at what you use your credit card for.
I don't have any of the social media apps installed on my phone, I don't use social media very much anymore and I'm removing the profiles that I haven't used for a year or so. My phone also automatically disables all the given access when I'm not using the app for an x amount of time. When I go away from home and I don't need my phone with me which is almost all the time I'll leave the phone at home and if I take it with me I make sure that Bluetooth is disabled, the NFC capability is disabled, GPS is disabled and even the mobile data connection is disabled permanently because I'm doing everything at home via my home network using wifi so when I'm not at home and I have my phone with me there's no way I can be tracked by any social media platform, even the standard Google services aren't able to track me not even with the apps configured to use the data if it's available but there is nothing. Social media isn't good for people to my opinion, it's by far the worst invention of the last decades, I've seen families break up because of it and the latest trend the cancel culture and dehumanizing people is pure evil so I'm not gonna worry about any social media because I'm not using it now and I'm not going to in the future, and these aren't even the worst things happening because of social media for example it's now way too easy for pedophiles to groom young kids which is disgusting and another pure evil... It's all the bad things on earth put into a few platforms that I don't want anything to do with.
I think geolocation can be useful, especially for the strava app. Think, if that lady got "kidnapped" while commuting 4mi to work on a bicycle. That app data would now be invaluable to maybe finding her whereabouts. So geoleocation doesn't protect a static location like a "house" per say, but can protect people. Everyone leaves thier house at some point, all it would take is a stakeout to wait till that said person left to then go in, that's why cameras and other home security is a good idea. If only that 127 hours guy used geolocation.
It's also easier to kidnap and stalk someone when you can get data on where they are at all times. It's also great for suppressing protests and political dissidents, if you're of the Chinese government persuasion.
@@-whackd ur comment is creepy and weird. that aside, kidnapped by gps then saved by gps... guess its not the gps's fault. Anyone can use ANYTHING for nefarious reasons. I onced used a gallon of milk to make my roomate sick. ANYTHING. but my point for finding stranded ppl still stands. In fact, thats what us pilots use. That's what hikers NOW use, a beacon that sends your gps location. Face it, it's a good idea.

Courts in my country have to prove guilt, I don't have to prove my innocence
the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence and simply because you don't have evidence that something does exist does not mean you have evidence of something that doesn't exist.
Are people turning geolocation on as part of a social boast? Like, a "look where I am, aren't I cool" kind of thing?
