    Eliminating small debts returns minimums to the budget, reduces the number of dollars spend on interest, and reduces your total liabilities. It works.

    In that last, savings category consider adding "extra debt" . With your grand total of $79 of extra money for the month, budget $0. But when you go to do your end of the month reconciliation with actual dollars spent, add any and all extra dollars actually soent in the actuals colmun. With your budget being so tight $20, $50, or even $100 of extra money spent on debt will begin to show in your regular budget.

    It seems as if getting your regularly budgeted expenses reduced would give you some wiggle room which you do not have right now. Paying off debt, eliminating subscriptions, reducing grocery costs, and maybe the school lunches (youl still have to feed her lunch) would be the common places to reduce the budget's expenditure.
    With a monthly phone bill of $320 my guess is that you are paying for phones, devices, and other at the same time you are paying for phone services. In this area, when you completely pay something off, the per month charge for that item is dropped from the bill. Certainly with our carrier in the past, if you apply an extra lump sum amount on one of the devices but dont get it fully paid off, you can get them to recalculate the per month charge. In turn, the monthly bill is reduced. After the intetest bearing Affirm is paid off, you might check into what paying down some of thec ph8ne3e device charges will do for you. With $79 left at the the end of the month, even a $5 reduction in the phone bill would iive you $84 left over at the end of the month.

      The phone bill does have phone devices I'm paying for on, but those are my oldest daughters and they reimburse me for their portion of the phone bill. Their payments are included in the "income" portion of my budget. I leave the phone bill at the full amount because if something happens and they can't pay their portion, then it is ultimately my responsibility to pay it in full. But they are grown grown and haven't missed a payment to me yet.
      I'd love to eliminate the school lunches, but my kid won''t take her lunch anymore. She will just not eat. (She's on the Autism Spectrum, so this is just one of those things that we deal with in this household.) I'd be spending the $50 a week for her lunches either way. It is either pay her school lunch fee or buy extra groceries. So it's a trade off.
      Groceries are already down to a bare minimum. With the previously mentioned Autism and my severe food allergies, I have to buy what we will/can eat which eliminates a lot of the cheaper options. For example, I'm allergic to grains - so no bread, rice, pasta, etc. The kid will only eat certain foods. Even if I get the wrong brand, she will not eat it, so it goes to waste if it's not one of the things I can eat. 98% of the time, I am providing separate meals for both of us. I do bulk cook, so that helps keep the costs down.

      @@journifer We have medical dietary limitations too and we are not able to do a number of the traditional food stretching with extra starches, gravies, and sauces. Ham is on our no-no list so we nolonger buy a post holiday clearance ham (or two), slice and dice, then freeze for during the year until the next post holiday ham clearance. You know all too well what I'm talking about including a bit of separate meal plans or dishes on the table.

      Thanks! The budget sheets are a combination of two budget sets I purchased off Etsy. I have links in the first budget set up for this year.

    Do ypu save $17 per month on Prime goods and services; or $204's worth per year?

    • @journifer
      @journifer  26 днів тому

      Yes, yes I do. lol. My adult daughters also use my prime account, so we are definitely getting the benefits from the subscription. I would safe some money by paying it annually, but that hasn't been a good option in the last couple of years. I'm hoping to change that. We also get a free book each month with our prime subscription and two of the 3 of us are avid readers, so that adds on to the use of the $17/mo.

      @@journifer Maybe the daughters can each spot you a twenty once a year or so to help defray the membership cost; better yet if they could each spot you a $20 twice a year. Even so, $40 ($20 each) could start and help an annual Prime membership.
